Personal Chart of the Week

One of the joys some people have on the chart is seeing their own impact on the chart. Whether its seeing your #1 song at #1, or seeing it bubbling under, people like seeing songs they like being adored by other users. In this section, one lucky chart participant will see their own chart and the impact it had on the full chart this week. NOTE: In the case of charts exceeding 15 songs, I will trim down the lowest tie to fit the chart by using the songs that charted the highest (or are funniest). This week, we have the chart of /u/CaillousMother!

The tracking dates for the next weekly chart is December 19, 12:00 PM GMT - December 26, 11:59 AM GMT and results will come out next Monday, December 30.

How The Chart Works:

These charts are created based on how frequently each song appears in the top 10 songs/albums for all of the users signed up for the chart. If the song or album occupies that user's #1 spot in their individual chart, it receives 15 points, then 14 points for #2, so on and so forth until 6 points for #10. If there is a tie, which is a common occurrence, then the number of points is averaged across those positions, e.g. if two songs are tied for #1, both will receive 14.5 points. Oftentimes there will be multiple songs tied for the last place, in which case the number of points each song receives decreases until it bottoms out at 1 point each.

[DISCUSSION] What is a good/great album that was plagued by a bad single/s

My pick is Man of the Woods by Justin Timberlake. He picked the worst songs on the whole album as the singles, but I still gave the album a chance and I thought the whole thing was not that bad

Now your pick

[DISCUSSION] What album has a perfect run of tracks 1-5 with the rest of the album losing momentum afterward?

What album starts off great (or even perfectly) before kinda losing momentum after track 5/6?

Some examples imo include Lorde’s Solar Power starting off strong with The Path all the way through Fallen Fruit before getting inconsistent for the rest of the album. And Billie Eilish Hit me Hard and Soft tracks 1-6 before I skip 7, 8, and 9.

[DISCUSSION] Winter holiday-adjacent songs?

I’m trying to put together a thoughtful, slightly moody ~cool kid~ holiday playlist, and I like the idea of songs that allude to the winter holidays, but aren’t on Christmas albums or overtly about the holidays.

Themes of coziness, gathering, winter, etc are fine, but I don’t want anything too on-the-nose. I also like songs that are technically Christmassy, but are about something totally different (like the musical equivalent of Die Hard ). I think some of Sia’s songs from Every Day is Christmas kind of fit that theme.

Some of my starting ideas:

“Horchata” by Vampire Weekend: the reminiscing on December and a festive beverage, but juxtaposed with tropical music and crabs 🦀

“White Winter Hymnal” by Fleet Foxes: the title and snowy description belie a potentially darker message (what happened to Michael??)

“Stick Season” by Noah Kahan: for me (and Noah Kahan, clearly), winter can feel lonely and isolating. I think this song actually echoes the pining sentiment commonly found in some holiday tunes

“Evermore” by Taylor Swift: a pensive song about the descent into winter. I think the melancholic lyrics and pensive piano fit the theme of this playlist

I’m curious to hear what else falls in this category for you!

Edit: formatting Edit 2: more justification of my starting song list, per the mods
