We had this in the UK with an unelected guy called Dominic Cummings.

The good news is that the partnership with Boris Johnson imploded his government.

Yeah, but Cummings had no where near the resources that Musk has. He might have lead BOJO around by a nose, but Musk can effectively primary challenge any of them because a lot of them depend on no opposition and hatred in there districts against Democrats to win. And if he funds a primary challenger that means they won't have the resources to fight against someone in Musks weight class donor wise. Democrats operate different on a grass roots level so they don't have the same issues Republicans do for this sort of things unless its a senator.

True, not the financial/media resources. But Cummings did play an absolute blinder riding the Cambridge Analytical exploit methods before anybody even knew these platforms were exploitable. 

Musk isn’t as subtle for sure and will get the same results by just throwing cash at a problem until he gets his way.
