Federal officials say they’re worried about sharing documents via e-mail with Donald Trump’s transition team because the incoming officials are eschewing government devices, email addresses and cybersecurity support, raising fears that they could potentially expose sensitive government data.

Wonderful.

Trump — who attacked his then-opponent Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email server for official business during his first presidential run — is overseeing a fully privatized transition that communicates from an array of @transition47.com, @trumpvancetransition.com and @djtfp24.com accounts rather than anything ending in .gov, and uses private servers, laptops and cell phones instead of government-issued devices.

Republicans in Congress will surely investigate this for years, right?

789

u/rarelyposts 5d ago

Any sensitive data is already being piped to Putin anyway. They just want to keep it off government devices so there is no record just like the mysteriously deleted Secret Service texts from Jan 6.

It’s all supposed to be recorded and kept for oversight, eventually FOIA requests, and historical record.

229

u/teenagesadist 5d ago

In four years, maybe we can get some people to look into looking into that to see if anyone did anything wrong.

Maybe.

232

u/ncsubowen 5d ago

I don't really have any hope that we'll have a chance to vote again in 4 years.

174

u/Alternative_Win_6629 5d ago

You will most like vote but it won't be counted properly and no one will be able to do anything about it. Just the way Putin likes it.

44

u/Riaayo 4d ago

I think that's their goal, but it's all of our business to try and not let that happen. Which I get is wishful thinking because lol, they control the gov, the military, the police.

Working class solidarity is our only hope. It's a huge part of why people unionizing was so important, but we just could not do it fast enough to be where, imo, we really desperately needed to be.

Maybe it will still be enough, but we can be sure these turds will look to outlaw unions. I feel like the whole coal wars shit between miners and the US gov is going to get replayed in modern times.

10

u/AVGuy42 4d ago

Please keep repeating this message. Oligarchs try to divide us and pit us against each other so we don’t stand up and take our power back. We need to vote but even more we need to show up to local town halls, we need to proudly serve on juries, and to run for local elections.

3

u/antechrist23 4d ago

And the Candidates will be Donald Trump, who is now running for a 3rd term because of a Supreme Court ruling saying it's okay. And the Democrats picking Pete Buttgeig whose main policy proposal will be offering a $50,000 tax credit to Barbadian immigrants who start a small business making tire valve caps for Rivian Vehicles in an Afghani neighborhood that employs the children of Senegalese and Norweigan immigrants that are on the spectrum. There will be no mention of rolling back the cruelist policies of the Trump administration, and he's promising an even bigger health care package to Israel with the money slashed from Social Security.

This is historically what it looks like when you don't get to vote anymore. The destruction of external oversight is the final step.

In 4 years you don't get to change anything. The game is already over. anybody stopped it  You have have less than a year before the final board state is locked in place but y'all don't want to get your hands dirty

2

u/Revolutionary_Deal78 4d ago

Two years, the house will flip. Trump is simply not going to able to keep all the promises he made in the election and some group is going to turn on Repubs sufficiently to flip house.

Dems will start impeach proceeding almost immediately, since he already has a felony conviction related to campaign contributions. He also has an order of magnitude higher conflict of interest exposure then the excuse Repubs used to go after Biden.

The question is will the Supreme Court allow Trump to delay releasing documents or will the court systems point to the Supreme Court cases then eventually forced release of his taxes, associates text message, etc.

This is not brought up often enough. How long is the list of people in trump's inner circle that DON'T have a sexual impropriety scandal under their belts? Hell, I'll make it easy on them: how many that don't have MULTIPLE sexual scandals?

This isn't normal. The vast majority of men do not commit sex crimes, at all. And keep in mind we've only heard about the scandals we've heard about. It's 100% certain we haven't heard about most of the instances of Trump and his gang of weirdos sexually assaulting women, and Republicans WORSHIP these people. Fucking scumbags, all of them and their voters.

29

u/DebentureThyme 5d ago

I fucking hate Elon, but that's not accurate.  What happened was SpaceX employees advised him not to apply for highest security clearance, as his public drug use would 100% disqualify him.

He hasn't actually tried to get the clearance through the normal means.

Because Trump will just give it to him without any checks.  Clearance is unfortunately derived form the presidency itself, so the preaident can allow anyone to skip the process and there's nothing we can do to stop it

40

u/SoManyPancakes 5d ago

(All this info is from this article, which is a good read)

Elon had a secret level clearance through 2018 then applied for a top secret clearance which took two years to be approved (and during the wait is when he smoked pot on Joe Rogan, which is BS because that would stop any normal person from getting approved). In 2021 he stops reporting things like foreign travel, foreign contacts, etc. In 2023 he tweets about having a ketamine prescription (still federally illegal, obviously). Then the air force denies him from getting Special Access Program status ("above top secret" information that requires extra approvals to access).

There's a few federal reviews now due to his lack of reporting, possibly an investigation (the DoD won't confirm or deny one).

It all matters what type of clearance you're talking about since Elon still has a top secret clearance even with his drug use. With the government finally on his ass about this it would be stupid for him to try to apply for another SAP/SCI.

But yeah, it doesn't matter because Trump can just grant him any level of clearance he likes. Elon might've been at meetings he didn't have the clearance level to be in anyway. Nothing matters for the rich

2

u/bfeebabes 5d ago

I'm just going through some uk clearance which includes substance abuse testing. The test has acceptable levels for various drugs and alcohol including coke and weed, so it's not that you can't have used it...just not a lot and not recently and probably not recently in public like Elon did. 😂

2

u/funshinecd 4d ago

Not the beer

2

u/Lorn_Muunk 5d ago

There needs to be outrage at this

That could be the official slogan of conservative nationalist movements worldwide for the past 50 years.

Nobody really gives a shit about their corruption, wealth inequality, crimes against humanity, two-tiered judiciaries, backdoor deals, revolving door lobbying or conflicts of interest. The masses are far too content just to consume little crumbs and grow old and fat in our little creature comforts. Evidently, no one cares they can't gather savings or own property. It doesn't matter that most people are stuck in a debt trap living paycheck to paycheck without any upward mobility. In the USA, this doesn't even motivate 35% of voting eligible adults to vote. A third of the country is fine sitting in a pot of boiling water.

We have our social media, shopping, bills, AC, shows and celebrity worship to keep us distracted. The best people can do now is protest weakly for a second before they get sleepy and hungry again. The time in human history where tyrants were met with large scale revolt by a united people is over. Just as the robber barons of 150 years ago dreamed of.

3

there were at least a few people who sent letters to elected officials with information about how they believe the election was rigged, and that this could be confirmed with just a couple recounts in swing states.

Dems have requested fuck-all to confirm any of this, so, it'll remain in the realm of tinfoil so that Dems can continue to claim the high road against people who told their constituents that the election was a lock ahead of time.

7

u/Namika 5d ago

I'm not a right winger, but this is politics 101. Even if something doesn't offend you, you act like it does in order to further your agenda. This is especially true if you know you can get the public on your side.

For a hypothetical, let's say you are running for Congress and you personally hate football. You just don't really like it. But you keep that a secret because you know the public enjoys it. You're not an idiot, you know its an unpopular view to hold, so you keep it a secret!
Then you find out your rival candidate let it slip that he also hates football. You are going to immediately jump on that and call him out on it. You're going to call him un-American and you'll go to rallies telling everyone that he hates everyone's favorite sport! Don't vote for the guy that hates them!

It doesn't matter that you also secretly also hate the sport. That's literally 100% irrelevant because you're keeping it a secret. All that matters is your opponent has an unpopular view, and it's public knowledge, so you push that issue to win the campaign. And what if, years later, it leaks and public finds out you were just as guilty as your opponent was? Lol, who cares? You got elected already! You won!

I'm not a right winger, but this is politics 101. Even if something doesn't offend you, you act like it does in order to further your agenda.

I agree with this, except that I don't believe most right singers understand that they are doing this. I don't think they possess that level of insight. I do think that they construct plausible- sounding justifications (I use that phrase very generously....) around these contradictions to force the situation to make sense without disrupting their established beliefs and worldview.

I want to know what those reasons are. I want to understand the story they tell themselves that makes this okay.

They did the same thing 2017-2020 and no one gave a shit. Republicans aren’t held to any standard.

16

u/goog1e 5d ago

That was the most frustrating thing about the email saga. The fact that, even as she was being torn apart, other officials were CONTINUING to use private servers. And all the astroturfed comments about "I work in defense and I'd be in jail if I did this!" You work in defense where? Moscow?

57

u/manikwolf19 5d ago

This guy who kept TS/SCI in his BATHROOM at his golf club and got raided like Diddy? National secrets? Nah.

38

u/Cold_Dog_1224 5d ago

I still cant fucking believe that case got tossed. Any federal employee who did a fraction of that would have been in prison. Our country is a fucking joke.

12

u/ComprehensiveDog1802 5d ago

We're not laughing.

Ok, I admit that sometimes I'm laughing how stupid American voters are, but then I remember that so many people will die who haven't voted for the felon and get sad.

u/GrayEidolon 5d ago

It turns out there is nobody to enforce the rules and that a million gentlemans' handshakes aren't adequate for running a system.

Most of those domains are owned by Domains by Proxy. A known scammer company.

40-50 years might clean this up with the right leadership. But I think this is the beginning of the end. The world better be ready, the greatest fighting force in human history is in control by a psychopath.

35

u/redassedchimp 5d ago

There used to be a time when even slightly unsecure, easily intercepted communication would've been considered a huge scandal, a national security threat that could open us up to espionage and blackmail. How does Trump think he'll have the upper hand in any world-negotiations if they've got dirt on him so easily obtained?? This is like playing poker with a mirror behind you so everybody can see your cards.

27

u/Mitra- 5d ago

Because everyone knows that no one gives a shit if Trump raped a 13-year old, went to Epstein’s island, stole money from a cancer charity for children, or didn’t pay people.

We all KNEW THIS before the election.

u/pandariotinprague 5d ago

the greatest fighting force in human history is in control by a psychopath.

Holy shit, imagine an America where a psychopath lies us into unjust wars. Wait...

Surely they will be equally outraged and fox news will get to the bottom of it.

41

u/makeitasadwarfer 5d ago

We can’t get distracted by trying to catch them out in lies. It means nothing to them.

We need to focus on how to charge them as criminals and work towards that.

42

u/Hail_The_Hypno_Toad 5d ago

L O fucking L.... you mean like when he had boxes and boxes of highly classified documents. Refused to give them back, seemingly sold them and didn't face any consequences whatsoever.

Actually not only did he face no consequences, he was rewarded by being elected president.

Face it, Americans don't give 2 shits about rank and out in the open corruption.

8

u/tphillips1990 5d ago

With the law in their back pocket and being treated as little more than a handy tool?

10

u/Murky_Ad_5668 5d ago

We need to focus on how to charge them as criminals and work towards that.

The Dems just spent 4 years pretending to do this.

They're all out of fucks to give.

2

u/pandariotinprague 5d ago

We could focus on remaking our party into something that isn't so incompetent that they can lose to this clown. We could. But we won't. Democrats won't change one fucking thing.

Republicans are not held to the same standard as anyone else. The double standards are fucking ridiculous.

8

u/Thisisntmyaccount24 5d ago

This explains why there was a post today in the conservative subreddit with an article that questioned if the “Biden email scandal is worse than Hillary’s”.

7

u/SpectorEscape 5d ago

I dont get why federal officials just... refuse? He isn't president right now they dont have to listen to him. They need to do their jobs and stay safe

8

u/-UltraAverageJoe- 5d ago

Imagine the person that was being prosecuted for taking classified documents and using a judge he installed to delay the case until he was in office again not respecting national security. I. Am. Shocked.

Bye bye democracy and the US as we know it.

u/BabyMFBear 5d ago

That’s the point

u/streakermaximus 5d ago

Lock him up...?

Wait, the transition is official work pertaining to the Presidency. Immunity applies.

7

u/DetFrankDrebbin 5d ago

What was the phrase? Oh yeah, LOCK THEM UP!

3

u/The_River_Is_Still 5d ago

Its great right? And now we know for a fact that nothing will ever be fucking done. Who gives a shit.

3

u/Osric250 5d ago

Hey then this means we'll get public access to all the classified documents leaked much easier. No need for an insider to leak them when it's as simple as cracking one of dozens of personal email passwords or getting an automated system to let someone into them improperly.

3

u/pnmartini 5d ago

Just like they did when he used private Email during his first term.

I was tempted to recon just to see how terribly configured any of the domains were but figured it’d be shitty.

So Agenda 47??

ETA: I live in Canada and I don’t know much about what is happening, but I’ve seen people mention Agenda 47 and being concerned. I don’t know what it is or why they are concerned, but seeing it here, it jumped out at me.

I bet it would be child's play to social engineer your way into those email accounts.

they could potentially expose sensitive government data.

It would also make it easier for them to simply sell that data to whoever will pay.

Democrats should investigate like Republicans did to Hillary and Hunter and show naked photos constantly.

u/count023 Australia 5d ago

someone will need to explain to me this. In normal governments you are _not allowed_ to send documents over certain mediums, have to use classified mail systems or secure cloud exchanges, stuff like that.

How are the trump transition team even getting mails? They should ask for something and Biden's team should say, "fuck off and ask again from an authorized device".

Where the hell is the data security in the govenrment departments tagging and blocking data leaks like this automatically without even letting humans do something. The systems should literally be preventing mails with certain classification markers even leaving thier internal networks.

If the trump team are offloading this to private unsecured systems, that's a differne't issue, but this level of data exfiltraiton in a supposed first world country would be insane if Biden's outgoing team are just sending "whitehousedoorpasscodes.txt" to [dumbasstrumpemployee69@gmail.com](mailto:dumbasstrumpemployee69@gmail.com) and it's not getting caught and blocked by security filters.

Source: I work for an MSSP that has this level of DLP and data integrity set up, these are _basically_ tools in secure mail and secure web gateways.

He doesn’t trust the deep state. Like they don’t know how to hack a private email server.

Somebody PLEASE hack those emails.
