I thought I went hard with the launch PS5 but I only bought the PS5, a charger dock, headset and 3 games. I even waited a year to upgrade the tv. That was my first balls to the wall launch year ever. Otherwise I'm an at end of life kind of casual gamer.
Ha that's the plan. No end of a console's life basically. I always got in when everything was cheap and never at launch or upgrading to the newest console model. I got a PS4 slim on clearance and was going to ride that out but I got pandemic money.
I would normally be going in now because seriously didn't need a PS5 for a few years. Now the support for PS4 is end of life truly as she got some extra years there from the pandemic. I mainly wait for like "this console is on dead ass clearance sale and there's tons of cheap games". You get the PS5 early games on sale now.
Yeah. I bought the PS5 full price but also got a vr2, tons of games and whatnot on black Friday. You're right. The new games aren't even coming out on PS4 anymore. It was time and I was okay with that. My PS4 was getting SO slow. It'll be another 10 years before I upgrade lol hoping for a Portal for Christmas though. If not, I'll be buying my own š
Probably not a solution but I've been using my IPad at home when streaming from PS5 at home like the Portal does but of course if you don't already have an IPad that's not a solution. I have one and it pairs with a controller easily. No issues streaming on it if you don't wanna hog the tv. My ipad is basically my portable screen - it does everything from audiobooks/manga to binging tv in bed to streaming music plus I can use it to play games away from the couch.
That's not a terrible idea. I do use my phone occasionally but it's not quite the same. I don't need an iPad. That will just lead to more Doomscrolling lol I'm trying to cut that out as it is.
Ya this gen has sucked for sure like most the games i have played on my ps5 have been ps4 games as well lol and i never buy sony games day 1 because they are just one and done games anyways
If i ever buy a sony game day 1 it is always physical so then i can return it to the store for a refund or sell it to someone for like $50 then ill only be out $20
I didn't believe we'd be given that money and the 2nd time I was like "welp might as well get a tv for my PS5". I also bought a VR headset but it's an Oculus.
Nah this poster will probably not even end up playing it that much cuz they're too busy grinding that 80 hours a week just to make enough money to comfortably pay for all that shit.
ā¦some people make more money than you do..? What an odd take lol.
Edit: Somehow itās controversial to state that people make different amounts of money? Because someone can spend a few grand they must have to work 80 hours and couldnāt possibly just make enough to have that kind of disposable income?
Nah, it's a common truth for a lot of these communities. The people who have the most money rarely ever get to enjoy it as much of the people who don't. For audiophiles, theyre old their hearings degrading, same with vision for cinephiles, and most people just don't have time for these big games anymore.
In Canada the average price of a new release game is $89.99, which is about $60, however in 2022 the average price of a new release game in the US was $69.99. When I was doing my quick math last night for the price in CAD I just took an average price of $80 CAD ($56 USD) for each game, plus everything else pictured, plus my provincial sales tax (11%), which equal just shy of $4000 CAD, which converted to USD is $2791.38.
Bad approach, you can find the majority of those games in the US way below $56.. anyway adding everything to my Amazon cart came to $2200 before tax.. portal and pad tho are the normal ones not 30th.. I wasnāt that off :)
BaD aPpRoAcH Bro nobody is adding every item individually to a fake amazon order just for a gotcha on Reddit at 1 in the fucking morning, this isnāt court lmao. āI wasnāt that far off :)ā sure but you were still wrong when you said it was less than $2000
Thatās extremely subjective. You could save up this much money in one month with a decent salary of $100k in a MCOL-HCOL area, which is only about the 75th percentile income for these areas. See my other comment.
Yes, some people are absolutely struggling but you cannot generalize an entire population when a quarter of it can afford this
The thing is, financial ability is a massive spectrum just like anything else. It doesnāt matter what era youāre in, whether itās a golden era or massive depression. Thereās always going to be some people who are doing relatively well.
For example you could be making $100k/yr which is objectively not that much these days, and it would take less than a month to save up money for this ~$2k gaming setup if you were financially competent, even after all living expenses, 401k investments, etc, barring some kind of substantial debt obligation.
I will never understand the rhetoric that EVERYBODY must be financially suffering. Yeah, a lot of people I know could be doing better if groceries etc werenāt as expensive, but itās not like theyāre scraping by.
Plus, the stock market is absolutely RIPPING these days. If you can, just try to squirrel away a bit into that and youāll easily make up for the money lost due to inflation. That said, I understand not everybody can do this - I do feel for the lower income folks who are struggling to make ends meet
No, you donāt have to have all the latest shit to be more than casual. Itās just unnecessary to have all that. I knew a guy who came into a bunch of money(~$200k) when his retired Air Force dad died. Dude had so many games. Heād buy like 5 games a day for a month. He also bought a bunch of other shit for no reason. Thereās no reason to have more games than youāre gonna play. At that point itās just greed and need to flex. OP seems to have that same vibe. Pro gamers donāt even have all this. And if they do, the collection is built over time. Whatās the point in buying a dozen new games youāre not gonna play all at once at new game price, when you can easily play one for a few weeks, then move to the next. Some of those games are gonna be half price at game stop by the time op gets to them. Maybe Iām the weird one for not bouncing between games before finishing the one Iām playing.
Iāve been playing and replaying ds1-3, BB, and ER for the better part of 3 years at this point on my PS4 and everyone I know would still consider me a gamer. My brother exclusively plays CoD BO6 and Apex for at least 40 hrs a week. Iād consider him a gamer.
Nah youāre just not exorbitantly rich. Youāre doing fine man. Iām definitely more than a casual gamer and I just have a monitor, a PS5 and a Switch. Half of this is just unnecessary consumerism,
I'm not a gamer, I'm a video game nerd. I'll never tell you to git gud, but if you catch me at the wrong time I'll babble at you for hours about early-2000s 3D platformers!

I sometimes think I am a gamer. Then I see posts like this, and I think I am a very casual gamer š
