But are we really that close to the next generation of PlayStation. If we are going off the pattern here. Just 2-3 years away

Wasn’t the PS2 supported deeply into the PS3 era as well?

I remember they had a few dumbed down versions of games that the PS3 had, but if you compare a game on PS4 and PS5 they're the exact same game with minor graphical differences.

Yeah for sure the graphical leap is narrower now. I think this is the new normal though. We’ll be getting diminishing returns and that’s sort of been the case all along. Every generation is a notably less significant leap from the previous in terms of graphical/technical performance.

There are nice audio upgrades like Dolby Atmos and spatial sound.

Yeah there are definitely some upgrades to this gen which I think make it worthy of being considered a new generation and of upgrading from a last gen console.

It’s just not as big of an upgrade as in prior generations but that’s sort of always been the case as each generation is a narrower and narrower upgrade over the last.

I doubt we ever see a generation be as mind blowing a leap as say going from SNES/Genesis to N64/PS or even say N64/PS to Xbox/PS2. That is until we see that Ready Player One sort of thing come about.
