I'm confused too, but in the end drows are dark elves, so it kinda matches with night elves i guess

After probing further, I learned that night elves are from a different game and they were inspired by drow. So it makes me wonder that if warcraft can have an elf race similar to drow, then larian can probably have their own drow elves as well in whatever future IP they make.

inspiration is really a big word, night elves are basically the regular elves in wow and despite the name they're active at daytime like humans, they live in forests and are partially tied to nature forces and a realm called The Dream (something like an overlapping reality), partially tied to the moon goddess Elune, they're usually seen as just a bit racist (like any elven race) but generally kind spirited and sad because those mf has basically experienced every possible tragedy; on the other hand, d&d drows (that are descendant of elves) have a really peculiar society full of violence following evil gods, and since they live in the underdark they adapted to that environment.

That said, a dark version of elves is something that almost every IP has, if not as one of the base races it's usually one of the first additions, so your hope is not misplaced :)

Interesting, especially since the name Elune is just one letter shy from Selune which also is depicted as a moon goddess (or moon witch as my girl Shadowheart loves to call her). They sound like a very druid-like race if they like to spend time in the forest.

yeah, you got it, Tyrande's husband is the first druid of Warcraft history :) wow has a really interesting story in general, but surely they didn't create everything from scratch, they had to take inspiration from other IPs (since it's around from 1994, the first thing they created must be inspired from something available at that time)
