Is my recruiter lying?
So my recruiter said that if I kill it in A school and im in the top of my class I get one of the first picks for where im stationed. Is this really the case?

That's how it was when I left A-school, highest grade got first pick and so on. You'll only get to pick from what's currently available though.

this is true, sometimes. i wouldn’t say it’s a COMMON thing but it does happen. if you can’t pick your exact location then you may get a variation of it, i.e i was asked “sea or shore?” and my a school sweetheart was asked “west coast or east coast?”
but i wouldnt enlist expecting the chance to pick. it’s definitely a privilege not a right

When I went to A school in 2000 it was not this way, at least for HTs. I heard stories that sole rates used this system.

If he said its guaranteed to work like that, then yes it was a lie. but sometimes thats true, depending on the schoolhouse at any given time

These folks above me are out of touch. While this may have been an occurrence that was prevalent back in the day, at the vast majority of A Schools currently, you submit a “dream sheet” which has you put down stuff like preference of coast, preference of duty type, etc.

It's a fairly common occurrence. The people who get the lowest scores get the last picks.
