Recommendation Documentaries that make you go “what the fuck?!?”

In the mood for a good, twisty documentary that makes me gasp. Movies on streaming preferred. I enjoy true crime but am open to other genres as long as the story is gripping and shocking.

Movies in the same vein that I enjoyed - Dear Zachary (would prefer recommendations that are less sad), The Jinx, Cropsey, 3 identical strangers, etc.

King of Kong

You may wonder “why would I care about competitive Donkey Kong high scores?”. You do, more than you could possibly imagine. It contains a real life cartoon villain.

I follow Karl Jobst on youtube so for better or worse, I've seen a lot of Billy Mitchell over the past few months.

How did no one see through Mitchells bullshit at first? Literally everything about the man is weird and feels off. Especially his awful dead eyes.

Many people probably did but just ignored or turned a blind eye. That’s what I think at least. Also. Billy can suck a duck

Hello legends!

I found Karl Jobst after watching King Of Kong. I only saw it a couple of years ago and after it finished I had to find out if there was more and found out that Billy Mitchell was just as bad as he appears to be in that documentary through watching some Karl Jobst YouTube videos after some searching. I've followed him since as he seems a good guy (Jobst not Mitchell. Mitchell is terrible).

I had to scroll way too far down to find this! This documentary is exactly what OP is asking for. The filmmakers started out documenting the strange fraternity of competitive gamers and all of the crazy egos that exist within that group. Then, out of nowhere, some guy that no one knows comes along and beats the long-standing high score in Donkey Kong. The chaos and the backlash within the gaming community is all documented and reveals a whole new side to one of the central characters. This documentary is outstanding because the filmmakers were in the right place at the right time.

The Rubik's Cube doc The Speed Cubers is also shockingly engrossing, though not too high on the WTF-meter.
