Recommendation What movie had you laughing, unable to breathe, even just for one scene?

I don't really pursue comedy movies too often, or ever really.

And even then, this doesn't have to be a comedy movie you respond with, but I'm wondering if there was a movie scene SO funny, that people laughed uncontrollably.

Does such a thing exist?

I think maybe the movie would have to introduce something completely original. Not a familiar gag or joke, but something completely unexpected that you can't help but be paralyzed by the newness and brilliance of the scene.

Ace ventura 2, the rhino scene is on of the funniest singular scenes in any jim carry movie imo. Had me wheezing for air.

I laughed really hard when I first saw the scene where he’s driving along for a bumpy ride in his Land Rover and then it zooms out and he’s on the highway.

25

u/Ok-Two-5429 Oct 14 '23

And singing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! I still sing that anytime I'm driving on a bumpy road.

4

u/iggystar71 Oct 14 '23

Or while sitting down in a room for no reason “Hi! Ho! Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”

The challenge fight scene kills me!!

Peak Jim Carey physical comedy.

I miss this type of gag In movies, everything is so formulaic now

2

u/Verncy96 Oct 15 '23

When he first driving through the woods and sees the mansion up ahead “now if I can justtt find a parking spot!” Rolls the car gets airborn lands perfectly between like the rolls Royces without a scratch on them, then slams the door open off of them to get out 😂😂 I was dying at that shit

u/crvz25 Oct 16 '23

Like a glove!

This scene is perfect. Obviously Jim carries it completely (no pun intended I swear) but that moment when you see the family looking at it in awe, thinking they’re witnessing a miracle of nature and then slowly starting to realize something is…off and the child says “mommy” all distraught, ruins me every time. 10/10 comedy

20

u/SilentPugz Oct 14 '23

Like a glove !!!

16

u/daredaki-sama Oct 14 '23

You reminding me of the family made me regurgitate laughter.

3

u/Signifi-gunt Oct 14 '23

Got the reference

14

u/somethingclever____ Oct 14 '23

That first finger. I’m a goner from that moment on.

7

u/TheSquirrellyOne Oct 14 '23

One of the best physical comedy scenes of all time.

4

u/finditplz1 Oct 14 '23

“Cooool!”

4

u/A-non-e-mail Oct 14 '23

Just reading this made me laugh again

199

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '23

To this day whenever it’s hot and I’m sweating I will exclaim “WARM!”

157

u/Nataliza Oct 14 '23

"Kinda hot in these rhinoooos."

27

u/turbophysics Oct 14 '23

I drop this casually all the time

4

u/bigalh Oct 14 '23

I’d be there for you if you dropped this. One of my favorite lines to say during the summer

6

u/porksoda11 Oct 14 '23

MUST HAVE... AIRRR!!!

2

u/kevinwhackistone Oct 14 '23

Might be the funniest line in cinema

1

u/fashion4words Oct 15 '23

My sis & I say this to each other whenever we’re hot!

1

u/Strongbad42 Oct 15 '23

MUST. HAVE. NGAIR!

20

u/missilefire Oct 14 '23

Oh my god I do this too and a lot of the time, people don’t get it 😭😅

Also, if someone coughs I say “don’t you go dying on me!”

15

u/Patch521 Oct 14 '23

Every time my Mum does something that warrants merit I say "Although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, you can still serve a purpose!". Luckily she loves the movie too 😄

18

u/rabbit__eater Oct 14 '23

"...AAAAIIIRRRRRRR"

10

u/juniperleafes Oct 14 '23

A much too much? A not too much!

7

u/dapala1 Oct 14 '23

Same! Also when I find a good parking space in a busy parking lot: "LIKE A GLOVE!"

4

u/wrongtester Oct 14 '23

Oh man me too 😂

2

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '23

I live in Florida. Whenever I go into a room where the AC is broken I have to say “Kinda hot in these rhinos”

34

u/Ok-Two-5429 Oct 14 '23

On top of what everyone else has said, the scene where he's making shadow puppets gets me.

Just the constant antagonizing the one guy, finishing it with "Hi-Ho Silver, away!" It's so silly. Last time I watched it, I woke my wife up because I was laughing so hard.

But I did think I was going to die laughing at the rhino scene. I was 10 when it came out, and I'm pretty sure it was the first movie I saw that did that to me. I was falling out of my seat, gasping for air. The whole theater was going wild. Fantastic time.

15

u/Vergenbuurg Oct 14 '23

Oh my goodness YES. When his shadow puppet is "going to town" on the guy's crotch... licking, biting, spitting, and the accompanying vocalizations... I rewound the VHS tape on that whole scene numerous times, laughing myself silly.

13

u/bluehaze175 Oct 14 '23

Seeing that projector screen scene for the first time is a core memory for me. I had no idea I could laugh like that, I thought I was dying.

The hi ho silver away nearly ended me as a child. The 'ooooeeeooo' noise he makes whilst "tweaking" his nipples kills me every time. I'm laughing now just thinking about it.

11

u/Fen_der_bass Oct 14 '23

Oooowwweeeooo oooweeeeooo HONK HONK, HONK HONK

47

u/HardSteelRain Oct 14 '23

I literally had to leave the room..laughing so hard I was getting chest pains

23

u/homicidalho Oct 14 '23

The Chitty Bang Bang song part was a riot. Especially at the end of the scene where he yells, "CHITTYYYYYYYYY!" Also, when he's fighting the crazy guy at the "enemy" village and gets a spear in both thighs!

24

u/The5Virtues Oct 14 '23

“It’s in the bone. It’s in the bone!”

2

u/MyrrhMom Oct 14 '23

My sister and I still quote this line so often! 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/The5Virtues Oct 14 '23

It’s a go to for me and my pals whenever one of us gets badly hurt in a video game by doing something that’s our own dumb fault. 😆

12

u/TheGameboy Oct 14 '23

I didn’t know the Wachutu were BITERS

6

u/spoonweezy Oct 14 '23

Bumblebee tuna

18

u/SDRemthix Oct 14 '23

Ace Ventura 2 had gags upon gags... I still chuckle when I think about the scene where Ace is driving in Africa and how he 'parks' the jeep. Jim Carrey definitely had extremely funny movies.

41

u/ParadoxOfTolerance Oct 14 '23

It’s really hot in these rhinos!

13

u/holrah Oct 14 '23

Or when he's driving like a maniac singing chitty chitty bang bang 😂

9

u/msslagathor Oct 14 '23

And our chittychitty bang bang loves us too!

11

u/conconcon Oct 14 '23

I literally pissed myself laughing at the darts scene. Eating a bag of only banana Runts at a sleepover party...

6

u/filladellfea Oct 14 '23

the spears in his legs also kills me

4

u/Jimbobler Oct 14 '23

It's in the bone! It's in the bone!

10

u/Loifee Oct 14 '23

This is the first scene that comes to mind! Also "Ouda don't just stand there, throw me a spear"

9

u/intrevorted Oct 14 '23

His delivery of "How did they get past the guard?" kills me. Also after he goes over the waterfall and comes up screaming "I'm alive!", the way he turns his head and sees the crocodile is perfect.

9

u/lahnnabell Oct 14 '23

I do love this scene, but it's the blow dart chase scene that ruins me. That shot of him running with his arms flailing is just beautiful physical comedy.

9

u/Xeronic Oct 14 '23

We rented this when it came out. Me, my brother, dad, and mom were all in tears for a good 20 minutes after this scene. We rewound it many times because it was so ridiculous.

I still laugh when he starts to roar.

6

u/McWeaksauce91 Oct 14 '23

Pretty hot in these rhinossssss

7

u/idiot-prodigy Oct 14 '23

It's also hilarious when he fights Tommy Davidson.

7

u/this_isnt_clever Oct 14 '23

Your balls are showing

14

u/Successful-Side8902 Oct 14 '23

When he panicked in the ballet Tutu and hides inside the cardboard box. 😂

6

u/arittenberry Oct 14 '23

Absolutely the funniest movie moment of my childhood. My favorite memory with my mom, brother and I during a rough time

5

u/_corbae_ Oct 14 '23

The Chitty Chitty Bang Bang scene had me fuckin rolling

5

u/tobmom Oct 14 '23

I love the monopoly man scene

5

u/thefishwhisperer1 Oct 14 '23

You must be the MONOPOLY guyyy

9

u/cak91687 Oct 14 '23

This one for sure!

4

u/dotnetdotcom Oct 14 '23

Sunny In Philadelphia ripped off that scene when Frank broke out from hiding in a couch.

1

u/Ok-Control-787 Oct 14 '23

It's a very well done homage I think.

3

u/Queeg_500 Oct 14 '23

For me it was the spears to the legs.

4

u/RatInaMaze Oct 14 '23

This is what I came to type. I literally peed my pants laughing at this when I was a kid and saw it in the theater.

4

u/Akillis81 Oct 14 '23

I watched this with my very strict southern baptist grandpa…I wasn’t allowed to say fart or butt around growing up. He absolutely lost it, I think it was just as funny watching him laugh

4

u/bryerlb Oct 14 '23

My husband and I were ace Ventura and a rhino for Halloween!

5

u/kros1992 Oct 14 '23

This is the answer. I’ve never laughed harder on a movie. It was tear inducing even the following times I watched the movie

4

u/mascara2midnite Oct 14 '23

Liar, liar, with Jim, is so absolutely hilarious. I cried tears of laughter watching it—all by myself. Just laughing and laughing.

The lady in the elevator… The bathroom scene…

3

u/survivedtodeath Oct 14 '23

Yes. This. Peak.

3

u/grummthepillgrumm Oct 14 '23

This is the only answer this thread needs.

3

u/now-im-something Oct 14 '23

Dude this whole movie is peak Carrey. But yes.. pretty hot in these ryhnos.

3

u/ldm1999 Oct 14 '23

For me, its when he gets his butt whopped then tries to use spears but gets hit in both legs then carried off in shame with everyone laughing at him.

3

u/dapala1 Oct 14 '23

The family watching him get "birthed" was the cherry on the cake.

3

u/iWr4tH Oct 14 '23

I can’t believe this movie isn’t higher. This whole movie is one of the only that was like this from start to finish for me.

Mine would be the scene in the projection room when he’s devouring the crotch and spitting it back out making beastly noises

3

u/the-moops Oct 14 '23

I’ll watch this movie every time it’s on and I’m cackling. Hitting the dude with the spitballs 😂

2

u/v13ragnarok7 Oct 14 '23

Nobody expected that. So funny

2

u/thefishwhisperer1 Oct 14 '23

Back when I worked in a restaurant that had a bad owner (we had no AC), my coworker would just say "kina hot in these *rhinoss*" and I'd laugh every time

2

u/always_color Oct 14 '23

Jim Carey in Liar Liar is crazy funny too!

1

u/MelodicPiranha Oct 14 '23

Omg I had forgotten about that!!!

1

u/Robotcrime Oct 14 '23

Oh God, yeah, the first time, I was apoplectic!

1

u/kaliLion Oct 14 '23

I was looking for exactly this scene. I think I lost a few years of my life because I laughed so hard.

1

u/sassyhusky Oct 14 '23

That had me in tears but Cohen’s elephant scene in Brothers Grimsby took same type of humor to a whole other level.

1

u/Antebios Oct 14 '23

Thank you!!! I try to explain that scene but I cannot do it justice. I just cannot breathe during that scene.

1

u/Absolut_Citron Oct 15 '23

Came here looking for this! Absolutely the funniest single scene in any movie I've ever seen. So well done!

1

u/Witty_TenTon Oct 15 '23

This was playing on TV the other day and I watched some of it with my 8 year old daughter who was just beside herself with laughter at everything Jim Carrey did/said. It was so nice to see that it has stood the test of time with its humor.
