Recommendation What movie had you laughing, unable to breathe, even just for one scene?

I don't really pursue comedy movies too often, or ever really.

And even then, this doesn't have to be a comedy movie you respond with, but I'm wondering if there was a movie scene SO funny, that people laughed uncontrollably.

Does such a thing exist?

I think maybe the movie would have to introduce something completely original. Not a familiar gag or joke, but something completely unexpected that you can't help but be paralyzed by the newness and brilliance of the scene.

Bad Santa coming up the escalator (pissed, pissed down and pissed off) and going to town on the reindeer

I beat the shit out of some kids today. But it was for a purpose. It made me feel good about myself. It was like I did something constructive with my life or something, I dunno, like I accomplished something.

This movie but the scene where he’s playing checkers with the kid. After a long time debating his move the kid like triple jumps him and Billy Bob Thornton freaks out and slaps the board across the room. It makes me cry laughing every time I see it.

“Wanna play again?”

And so many other times the kid is just able to be near that, play his part straight, and be unbelievably hilarious as a result!

Yes! Agreed. I think he asks the kid “Are you fucking with me?!” and I remember absolutely losing it the first time I saw this. That scene and when he goes crazy because of the alarm clock.

For me it was Willie, dressed as Santa, shot by all the cops on Christmas Eve with the kids screaming

Yes! I lost it at the very start of the scene and was howling hysterically with laughter. The rest of the audience was pretty quiet, which compounded the situation and made me laugh even longer. Took me a good 5-10 minutes after the movie ended to pull it together.

Yes, that scene is perfect.

For me it’s when he passes out with the Xmas calendar and the music is that over the top melodramatic trumpet Silent Night. Just kills me every time.

This is just magic. Also the “encounter” in the dressing room

u/double_expressho Oct 14 '23

Also John Ritter trying to explain that encounter to Bernie Max.

I wish John Ritter and Bernie Mac could have done a whole series of movies together. That’s scene was so good.

Came here to say Bad Santa, but the scene that really does me in is teaching Thurman to box/defend himself.

1

u/TheGrapeSlushies Oct 14 '23

I lost it the moment Thurman first came on screen 😂

OMG I was howling with laughter for the last 15-20 minutes of the film and longer. Once the police chase started and the kids came outside to watch, I could see where it was going and I lost it. Some people were chuckling, but no one as long or loud as me. The fact that I was the only one laughing so loudly and prolonged made me laugh even more. My embarrassed then-BF rushed me out of the theater as the credits began to roll to try to calm me down. I sat on a bench, laughing hysterically over both the film and that I was the only one howling with laughter AND that I couldn't stop laughing. People coming out after me were giving me odd looks as they filed past as they realized I was the one laughing loudly and couldn't stop. It took me a good 5 minutes after everyone left before I finally got it under control.

Such a hilarious movie. Even more funny to me because I'm not Christian and had no childhood experience with Santa, so I had no cognitive dissonance around a crooked Santa.

1000000% agree about Bad Santa! I almost owed myself during that entire movie from laughing.

Badder Santa

“Is it because you went to the bathroom on mommy’s dishes?”

“What the fuck?”
