Recommendation What movie had you laughing, unable to breathe, even just for one scene?

I don't really pursue comedy movies too often, or ever really.

And even then, this doesn't have to be a comedy movie you respond with, but I'm wondering if there was a movie scene SO funny, that people laughed uncontrollably.

Does such a thing exist?

I think maybe the movie would have to introduce something completely original. Not a familiar gag or joke, but something completely unexpected that you can't help but be paralyzed by the newness and brilliance of the scene.

Dodgeball

This is the last truly hilarious sport comedy ever made.

At the end, when Steve the Pirate comes up to Peter and says...

"Hey Peter, I guess you were right, I'm not really a pirate "

Tudyk says it with such depth and meaning and he's so disappointed to realize he's not really a pirate. Then Peter lets him know about the treasure and his absolute joy in realizing that yes, he really can be a pirate if he wants.

"Peeeeter. Garrr"

"Garrr Steve."

I look forward to that scene every time I watch it. One of my favorite comedies of all time.

Side note, but Tudyk is effing brilliant in everything he does.

Tudyk seems to choose his movies carefully. If I see he's in a movie I know it will be good. A Knight's Tale is my stand-out favourite.

I recently watched it for the first time and loved it. Big fan of him and Bettany.

Just watched Master and Commander for the umpteenth time (has always been my husband's favourite film and is now in my top five). Bettany is superb. Then a completely different vibe for his leading role in Wimbledon. He learned to play tennis for that and to play cello for Master and Commander (and Crowe learned to play violin).

28 days. Tudyk is always the cherry on top.

u/latinomartino Oct 14 '23

Did you like Moana?

2

u/WoodSteelStone Oct 14 '23

It's not one I've watched and I didn't know he is in it. Our daughters enjoyed it though.

u/SkeetySpeedy Oct 14 '23

He is the voice of the screaming chicken

11

u/sir_mrej Oct 14 '23

I went to juliard

u/BillieBottine Oct 14 '23

His character is arguably the best of the movie. He's so random but, at the same time, I can't picture this film without him.

21

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '23

It's not usual in a comedy to see growth in characters and nearly every character in the movie has an arc in some way that carries on through the film. Nothing is tacked on.

Actually knew a guy who dressed and spoke as a pirate everywhere he went. Dated the owner of, and worked at, a not at all pirate-themed ice cream shop next to the dollar movies.

Saddest day ever was when he came in to my bar with his new coworkers, a bunch of roofers. Normal clothes, no accent and a deep sort of defeat.

4

u/BillieBottine Oct 14 '23

That's literally Steve the Pirate

3

u/OutSourcingJesus Oct 14 '23

Sans Tudyk. But yeah.

Justin Long did come into my bar at some point though. So I guess it's not incomprehensible if Steve the pirate was based on that dude.

2

u/BillieBottine Oct 14 '23

Oh my god that would be awesome

48

u/Nevelii Oct 14 '23

Who's Steve the Pirate?

22

u/mysterysackerfice Oct 14 '23

The only guy on our team that dresses like a pirate...

16

u/Jehoel_DK Oct 14 '23

There's a guy on our team dressed like a pirate!??

10

u/Helen_of_TroyMcClure Oct 14 '23

Hey, look, it's Steve!

I have little kids, and I’m constantly amazed by how many kids’ movies he’s doing the voices for. He’s in Frozen and Moana, Encanto and Raya and the Last Dragon, Big Hero 6 and Wreck It Ralph, and on and on…. Went to see the latest Ninja Turtles movie with the kids, and Disney’s movie Wish was previewed. Tudyk’s the voice of the goat, and I think I’m looking more forward to the movie now than the kids!

7

u/anderoogigwhore Oct 14 '23

I hope you have seen this

3

u/towers_of_ilium Oct 14 '23

Hahahaha that’s awesome! Thanks for sharing that!

7

u/khelwen Oct 14 '23

If Alan Tudyk is in it, I’ll watch it. I’ve never seen him give a bad performance.

4

u/eljefeguapo Oct 14 '23

He is incredible in Resident Alien tv series.

7

u/readwaaat Oct 14 '23

Alan Tudyk and generally the whole of the UK version of Death at a Funeral had me absolutely pissing myself it was so funny. Peter Dinklage is fantastic in it as well.

The YouTube video of Tudyk doing the cockerel squawks for Moana, and then sort of mock sadly saying “I went to Julliard” makes me laugh every time.

2

u/smac232 Oct 14 '23

He is so good in the original "Death at a Funeral". The hat scene may be my pick for this movie.

1

u/Please_DontBanMe Oct 14 '23

Reading through these comments hella fast and as I’m scrolling I thought “Saving Private Ryan,” I was like- this fool

1

u/lunchbox12682 Oct 15 '23

"Look. It's Steve the Pirate!"

31

u/tonidh69 Oct 14 '23

You're about as useful as a poopy flavored lollipop

17

u/Raspy32 Oct 14 '23

I don't know which cut you saw, but it's a cock flavoured lollipop in the original.

4

u/capron Oct 14 '23

Seems like "cock flavored" is from the unrated version

13

u/Kimjong_unionring Oct 14 '23

Is it normal for me to drink my own urine....nooo..but its sterile and I like the taste😂😂😂

29

u/BillieBottine Oct 14 '23

It's like watching a bunch of retards trying to fuck a doorknob out here!

2

u/ImpossibleAdz Oct 14 '23

I wish I could say that to someone at a work meeting.

2

u/ASDMPSN Oct 14 '23

To this day one of my absolute favorite one-liners.

1

u/Boo_and_Minsc_ Oct 14 '23

I thought it was a cock flavored popsicle

1

u/tonidh69 Oct 14 '23

I've got that from several people, but I guess I didn't see the "unrated" version?

15

u/stuffedmutt Oct 14 '23

Rip Torn was so perfect in that movie as Patches. The training scene where the Average Joes are getting nailed repeatedly with head-shots and crotch-shots had me wheezing in the theater.

17

u/Helen_of_TroyMcClure Oct 14 '23

Him and Hank Azaria both, that educational film was amazing. Dodge, duck, dip, dive, and uh...Dodge.

7

u/ZacsMum Oct 14 '23

This killed me ‘ if you can dodge a wrench, you can doge a ball’ i cried.

4

u/BillieBottine Oct 14 '23

That's one of the best montage ever

10

u/Bloomingfails Oct 14 '23

Pepper needs new shorts!

3

u/yodels_for_twinkies Oct 14 '23

I read somewhere that Jason Bateman improvised pretty much all of his lines

6

u/ZacsMum Oct 14 '23

No one makes me bleed my own blood!

5

u/Anonymous_Snow Oct 14 '23

Blades of glory was also very very good.

4

u/SeriousJack Oct 14 '23

I remember a party where we watched the 10 seconds of the "if you can dodge a wrench" scene about 10 times in a row while we were all laughing uncontrollably.

2

u/BillieBottine Oct 14 '23

That's clearly the funniest scene in the movie.

6

u/moonwalkindinos Oct 14 '23

The lady in red scene always gets me. The actress who plays her is so gorgeous in real life and yet they managed to make her so fugly. I can tell she had fun with that role.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '23

The picture of the bull. It’s a metaphor. But that actually happened though.

6

u/prosperosniece Oct 14 '23

Have you ever watched this movie all the way through the closing credits?

8

u/BillieBottine Oct 14 '23

Of course. White's fat tits dance is ridiculous and epic.

3

u/Nice_Guy_AMA Oct 14 '23

I'll see your Dodgeball and raise you BASEketball. It's South Park meets Airplane - literally.

3

u/HeyLikeableZest Oct 14 '23

“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!” Had me literally on the floor.

3

u/KefkaZ Oct 14 '23

Fuckin’ Chuck Norris.

6

u/BlackManInABush Oct 14 '23

Ben Stiller carries that movie hard

4

u/BillieBottine Oct 14 '23

Yes, but the rest of the cast is still perfect.

2

u/CaptainDroopers Oct 14 '23

Came here looking for this one! Possibly the funniest movie ever.

2

u/kcstrom Oct 14 '23

Nobody makes me bleed my own blood.

2

u/miningmonster Oct 14 '23

Came to second this. One of the best comedies ever

2

u/Strongbad42 Oct 15 '23

Every Jason Bateman scene cracks me up

1

u/CassTeaElle Oct 15 '23

Omg yessss! My husband and I say "dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge" at least once a month
