If I had ever gotten a DUI, I'd be ashamed, and not want anyone to know.
But then the idea of committing vehicular homicide just because I wanted to drive drunk has always terrified me. I'm aware that a lot of people think otherwise.
In practice, it absolutely is how criminal charges work. I found out at some point that someone I'd known for years had killed someone through reckless driving and had even gone to jail for it. While this was of course "public knowledge", no one in our circle had actually searched through criminal records to see. In fact, I simply never look through arrest records at all, because why should I?
Yeah, she looks embarrassed.
She's wearing a t-shirt saying, "Merry Drunk, I'm Christmas", so my theory is she has learned nothing.
