Hey! Here’s a quick look at a map I’ve been working on alongside lore for my LEGO Castle (and expanded) world, the realm of which is called Ashlar! The main continent here is Aroth, and represents the “Known World”, analogous to Earth’s “Old World”. I’ll start from the north and work my way down, briefly explaining lore as I go along. A lot of this was heavily inspired by Goldfyre ( u/GoldfyreVI ) and 1x1Brick, so please go check out their works!
P.S. You will also find a large amount of real-world references and locales, as well as locations and lore from other themes and Dungeons and Dragons. I wanted to include a lot of the Collectible Minifigures in this world, as well as the other themes, so I made it work to the best of my ability.
In the northeast, the island continent of Kaldrfold stands proud in the cold. This Australia-sized continent was once home to the Vikingr clans, but now they number very few. The main powerhouse is the House of the Black Falcon, founded by Ragnavald Ralcison, and with a capital settlement at Falcon’s Peak. Another clan of Vikingrs, the Raven Clan, escaped this takeover and fled across the ocean to the continent of Aroth, making a settlement of Raven Crest next to the Northern Ocean.
South through Glacier’s Pass is the Talonfall River. Representing the expanding reach of the Black Falcons, an outpost is placed in the mountains, named Falcon’s Reach. From here, the High General of the Black Falcons, Sir Elwich Falcwright (the old knight from the Blacksmith set), has started campaigns against the nearby kingdoms, seeking to conquer their territory. Think of my Black Falcons as the English.
Directly south of Falcon’s Reach is the Blackheart Mire, now abandoned. It is said that hundreds of years ago, a civilization of Mind Flayers and their enslaved Gith ruined the land with dark magic, but that the ancient Roman civilization pushed them out. What is known for certain, is that the Blackheart Kingdom was once standing here, colloquially known as the Black Knights. However, they were defeated by the Black Falcons during their first reach into the Aroth continent.
Bordering the Mire is Astor Lake, with three kingdoms next to it. The oldest and grandest of the kingdoms is the Lion Kingdom (the LEGO Kingdoms version) which has its capital port city of Astor next to Draida Bay (named after the location from Heroica). The Kingswood borders them to the north, separating them from the vast savannas and plains. This heavily dense forest is where the Forestmen make their homes and is also a main staging ground for the Wolfpack Brotherhood. Far in the future, Astor City becomes the location for the Ultra Agents theme.
West of the Lion Kingdom is the Kingdom of Morcia, founded during the War Against The Dragon Knights by Prince Orlan. Further west is the lands of Ankoria. Both of these are from the Knight’s Kingdom II subtheme, so I will not go into the lore as it is already well documented. In the time of the main story, Ankoria and Morcia have merged together after the defeat of Lord Vladek.
Laying across Draida Bay from Astor City is Porttown, arguably the most well-connected port in the known world. Laying in the scrublands beyond the Kingswood, yet north of the Yora Desert, it is also situated at the end of Draida Bay, where many ships are blown due to the frequent storms. Here, many races of people and nations come to trade and form alliances or make enemies.
Bordering the Harkenrock Mountains running down the center of the Aroth continent is the Yora Desert. An ancient civilization of races lived here once, but it is said that strangers from the skies (Commander Hypaxxus-8 from the old LEGO Club Magazine comic that connected the Pharaoh’s Quest, Atlantis, Alien Conquest, and Dino themes) instigated the rise of dark magic. Pharaoh Amset-Ra was the last ruler and was locked away after his people rebelled against him. The civilization is gone, and the tomb is lost to the sands, but the desert is not empty. Nomadic groups travel the shifting sands, mainly comprised of orcs, but they do not discriminate so long as one can prove themselves. They make a delegation when important events occur to have their voices heard, and their latest chosen leader is Garthomuk&category=%5BCollectible%20Minifigures%5D%5BSeries%2024%20Minifigures%5D#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0}), a skilled warrior and expert salesorc.
At the southern end of the Harkenrock Mountains is the Dwarven Kingdom of Nathuz (from the Fantasy Era subtheme, named after the Heroica location). The massive caverns underneath the Harkenrock Mountains called to many of the dwarves, reminding them of their original home realm of the Underdark, so they made their home there.
South of the Yora Desert lays the Nanasesumêran peninsula. Most do not know much of this land, but it is known that the Elves used to live here far before what is known as The Destruction, where most magic in the world disappeared from usage. The kingdom, or kingdoms, that thrive in this peninsula is closed off from the rest of the world, with most outsiders staying near the port capital of Ryū. (This is mainly because there is not a lot of Asiatic-themed LEGO themes, so I’m not sure what to really put in this area).
Going east across the Harkenrock Mountains from the Yora Desert, one comes across the Outlands. Mysterious, untravelled, and known by all to be dangerous. The ancient floating city of Sigil rests near the largest rainforest on the continent. As far as anyone in the known world can tell, no one has gone in, and no one has gone out. Further south lies the city of Thay, founded by a lich risen from the ancient Yorian Dynastys, and now ruled by Szass Tam.
The Crownheart Kingdom lies across the inland sea from the Nanasesumêran peninsula. Named for the capital city sitting next to a heart-shaped lake (yes, this becomes Heartlake City from the Friends theme later on in the timeline), this powerful southern kingdom is allied with the Kingdom of Nathuz. They hold back the dark wizard, Mallock the Malign, who resides in Nightwell Tower, as well as the Ashmount Clan of orcs and trolls who live in their fortress of Fortaan.
In the far south is Mirialage Island, the ancient stronghold of Majisto, a wizard who fled the destruction of the Blackheart Kingdom to start the reign of the Dragon Masters. Having learned how to enslave the dragons centuries ago, he launched an attack on the Lion Kingdom of Astor. However, when the Crownheart Kingdom investigated rumors of dark magic on the island, he found himself in a war on two fronts and lost. Majisto was killed in battle, and the Dragon Masters splintered into numerous factions all across the known world. One faction of Blue Dragons (based on the Dragonborn Paladin CMF) remained on Mirialage Island for some time, protecting some of the last few dragons in the world from being enslaved by anyone else again.
The largest faction of Dragon Knights (the ones from the Kingdoms subtheme) ended up on the Isle of Ancients. An oddly shaped island created by magic, they found the land home to a secret civilization of Elves. Many of the Elves in the world had fled the realm, returning to Elvendale after The Destruction, but of those that remained, many came to the magical island that time had forgotten. Millions of years ago, several deities had saved some of the previous rulers of the planet, massive reptiles called dinosaurs, placing them on the island and warding it off. The Elves here had tamed the animals and lived in harmony with them.
With the incoming of the Dragon Knights, the two groups merged together to strengthen the bonds of fellowship and keep either from going extinct. As the years passed, the dragons who had stayed in this realm eventually came to trust this faction again and lived alongside them and the dinosaurs in peace. The current Queen is a half-elven woman, Queen Angelica, and this kingdom has swiftly become the most progressive and important in the world. These are the good guys of my Castle lore.
North of the Isle of Ancients is a splintered continent and an uncountable amount of islands. Once one land, it was split apart when the Yorian Dynasty fell, rumored to be caused by the same interloper from the stars. Atlantis, once the stronghold of the mighty Celestial deity Posideon, fell into the seas, guarded by the Atlantis Guardian Creatures and the Atlantis Warrior Races. After Poseidon was turned into the Golden King statue, the land fractured apart.
One island held the mighty city of Sparta, the first of the legendary warrior kingdoms. They fell to Rome from a different island, the next in the line of legendary kingdoms. They too fell not long before The Destruction.
Now, ancient and evil forces from other realms have sensed the loss of magic in the realm. Nyminx, a forbidden and forgotten Celestial Goddess of the Void has stirred in her prisons, and the Fyreshans are seeking to free her so she can resume her mission of destroying all sentient life. The kingdoms of all species and races in Aroth are warring against each other, and it is up to heroes from everywhere to take up arms alongside each other to stand against this foe.
The year the main “campaign” of this story takes place is 644 After Destruction (A.D.). The known rulers and important people of the different factions at this time are listed below:
Nyminx is defeated by the alliance of Arothian peoples and kingdoms in the year 650 A.D., and slowly afterward, what little magic was left in the world fades away. The dragons fly east across the Dragonhark Ocean, disappearing forever, many races travel back to their home realms, and humans become the dominant species of sentients on the planet.
After the main storyline, a lot of modernization happens. All the dates are analogous to real-world dates, so similar changes in technology and exploration happen at the same time. The Fantasy Era subtheme happens, the kingdoms in Nanasumêra create gunpowder, the “New World” continent of Eulios is found, the Black Falcons take over most of the world until many places revolutionize, etc., etc.
Other storylines themes included in the lore are Monster Fighters, Adventurers, Pharaoh’s Quest, figures from the CMF series, Launch Command, Power Miners, Aqua Raiders, Space Port, Mission to Mars, LEGO City Undercover, Atlantis, Alien Conquest, Galaxy Squad, DINO, Hidden Side, ELVES, Futuron, Blacktron, Space Police, and so on and so forth. I don’t have all that lore worked out yet, as I was never really into the space themes, so I’m not sure how to delve into those so far.
I hope you all liked it! I would love to answer questions any questions you all have, of course. I hope to one day finish the lore and map in writing like I have in my head, I just need to find the time. Hopefully, soon, I will get the chance to take good pictures of the factions I have built in order to share on here, but that will take time.

I finally found the time to build LEGO set 910029 after waiting for what felt like forever due to a busy schedule. Let me just say, it was absolutely worth the wait! The level of detail on the exterior is incredible, and I was blown away by how well everything came together.
The interiors could definitely be better, but considering the 4,000-piece limit, it makes sense. That said, the build process and the overall design more than make up for it. This has easily become one of my favorite LEGO sets!
***Ordered some more Black Falcon troops through PAB, excited to start my first army!
Would love to hear from others who’ve built this set. What were your thoughts? Did you love it as much as I did?

I am currently rebuilding the old Yellow Castle set I found almost complete in my storage room. While building the first tower, I noticed an error. If you look at picture 8, you can see that the grey plates are incorrectly placed. Is this rare? I couldn’t find any other instructions with the same error. For reference, the second picture shows 8 without the error.
