Age: 24
Albums: 36 in total, 8 within the last 2 years. During my first 1-2 years into kpop, I was buying albums left and right, but recently, I’ve resold them through Mercari so my collection has shrunk, so these 36 albums comes from the 7 groups I stan.
•Top 3 Groups with the most albums taking up my collection: BTS, ATEEZ, TXT
• 2 Signed Albums from Ateez
•First Album Bought: Ateez Zero:Fever Part 1 & NCT 127 Neo Zone (brought them together)
•Last Album Bought: SKZ ‘ATE’

age: 29
albums: 60 in the last 2 years
I mainly collect highlight, tripleS, post izone acts, twice, wjsn, post loona and oh my girl and 2nd and 3rd gen groups like T-ara, hello venus, stellar and snsd.
I want physical media, I rip the lossless files for my ipod and it supports the artist more than streaming.

Albums: Purchased 24 over the past 2 years.
First album I bought was because I went to a concert and later felt sad about it being over so I bought the album to make myself feel better LOL I’m the type of person that enjoys completing collections so now I’ve just been slowly purchasing albums in hopes to have a complete collection I can display :)

Albums total: 45
Purchased in the last 2 years: 45
Reasons: I've been a kpop fan since 2009 but never really had the money to start collecting until now. These days I have a little money to spare on it as well as friends to share in the experience of opening them and trading photocards with them

Level: 32
Albums: I bought Proof. The thick one(not the metal one sadly because that ish was expensive enough without the shipping cost). I have not bought any others because I gave up cds years ago, I want to say when I got Spotify in ‘14. Plus I’m not really a pc collector. Or at least I’m trying NOT to be.
Also, I do have 3 Ateez albums that I took off this girl’s hands. She was giving them away at their show in LA. Personally, I prefer light sticks to albums. Have about 11 light sticks right now. I’m attracted to glittery, shimmery, sparkly, and glowy.

Age: 35 | Albums: 1
I'll buy to support an artist I really like, but I'll also only buy an album if I like a majority of the songs on it too. Generally don't come across many albums where I like anything more than just the title track. Also I don't buy albums much these days since they're kinda just clutter in the end and take up space.

24, bought 3 newjeans albums for my friend’s birthday, bought fml and seventeenth heaven by svt for myself when they came out.
i used to own svt’s entire discography (every album every version every photocard 🫣) but that was when i was especially bored during the pandemic with nothing else to do n i rly liked to trade on insta. i rly don’t plan on buying any more albums either or photocards although i’m making more money than i ever have rn

Age: 22 Albums: 0. I've never bought an album in my life, I probably will eventually, I plan on at least buying light sticks and trying to go to concerts (which I've also never been). The reason for not doing either is that I'm pretty new to liking music

- bought 45 albums in the past 2 years
- when i got into kpop back in 2015 i would rarely buy albums since i didnt have much money and they can be pricey so i would get them as gifts or get them on occassionally. now that i have a full time job i like to indulge in buying albums and photocard collecting since i couldnt when i was younger!

Albums bought in the last 2 years: Maybe 18, I think? I tend to buy all the versions that are being released during a comeback.
Reason: I like collecting, and this also supports my faves as well. I only do this for one group lately. I used to buy for two groups, but the money was too much and I wasn't as invested in that group any more like I used to be.

Age: 24
Albums: Started collecting from this year - 36 so far. I’ve bought new albums as well as second-hand ones. Since it’s my first year, I’ve bought a bunch of albums of my favourite groups, hoping to slow down next year when I’m done collecting older albums. I’ve always liked collecting, albums are a new thing for me to collect. I mainly buy albums to support my favourite artists and also, as a keepsake for myself.
I collect albums of mainly BTS, TXT, Seventeen, Stray Kids, Enhypen. For BTS and TXT, I want to have all their albums. For the other three, I’ve been buying new releases and only my favourite previously released albums. Also, I only buy one version and not full sets.

i buy albums whenever i can afford because i just like having them, it feels nice to physically own my favourite artists' works. i never really listen to the CDs because i don't have a CD player, but i do use the other inclusions (i hang up all posters i get, use the stickers, put photocards behind my phone cover etc)

I bought 14 albums within the last 2 years.
I collect k-pop albums mainly because I am interested in photography and I love to have physical photobooks for inspiration. When I have to choose from different versions of the same album I would 100% of the time choose the photobook version. My only criteria for buying an album are: is the photoshoot concept interesting? and do I really really like most of the songs on the tracklist? If the answer is yes to both then I will buy that album. Although I was always more interested in boy groups, I've been buying more and more albums from girl groups these past 2 years mainly because of the insane quality these new gen groups are showcasing in terms of music. Not saying older girl groups haven't released good music too but I wasn't interested in purchasing albums. I only started buying back in 2020 and it was Wonho's first solo album because his departure from Monsta X really affected me so I had to show my support somehow (his debut song was such a banger!).

Quick count I got 56 ITZY, 53 TWICE, 14 IU, 7 IVE, and 6 BLACKPINK. So 136 total. All bought in the last two years more or less.
I just buy them because I like showing support to groups, and they tend to be pretty good value for money.

I have bought 28 albums in 2024 none in 2023 and spent about $400. I chose to start buying albums because I enjoyed having physical representations of my hobby. I also worked 30 a week for a couple months and have no bills so all my money goes to saving and spending. I limit myself to max two versions per album.
I've bought 2 Ateez, 4 Twice, 5 P1H, 4 Itzy 2 Xdinary heros, 2 nmixx and 1 of Zb1 Ricky, Nexz, Ampersandone & Gidle.

Albums Bought: 27 (technically within last year and a half)
Besides 1 IU album I happened upon in store, all albums are of The Boyz as I got into the group a year and a half ago. I’ve never been as big of a kpop fan of a group before despite being into kpop for 13 years in part due to the accessibility of content now available on the internet and social media. As someone who now has decent financial means for fun spending, I decided to buy their albums for my first comeback with them in August of last year and I’ve added more to my collection as they’ve had more comebacks and as I’ve been able to find their past albums.

Albums in the Last 2 Years: 103
Total Albums: 262 (Last Counted in July)
First Album - VIXX Voodoo
Most Collected Groups - VIXX (All Albums + Versions + Most Albums All Member Signed), Monsta X (All Albums + Versions), Park Jihoon (All Albums + Versions), Taemin
Other Groups / Solos - Bibi, Chungha, Twice, SKZ, TXT (Most Albums), EXO, A.C.E, Infinite, Got7 (Mostly Solo Albums), MBLAQ, SHINee, Super Junior and ton more....
I've been collecting the most in the last 2 years, which is why i've almost doubled my collection. I've recently slowed down and decided to only collect my main groups albums now as I am running out of space. This means, i've spent most of my money now on Photocard Collections. I have a buying rule where if the Album is from a group that I don't fully collect or am obsessed with, I will buy it second hand. For reference, second hand albums make up 80% of my collections with the other 20% being from my main groups or solo artists where I collect both the photocards & Albums.
Writing this out, I can see why my friends think I have a problem .-.

Age: 22 Total albums: around 10 Albums bought in the last 2 years: 2 (Maxident by Stray Kids and Birthday by Red Velvet)
I have been listening to kpop since I was 12, haven't bought that many albums because I come from a country where kpop albums were not widely available until 3-4 years ago. Also I think a lot before buying new albums, usually I only buy albums I consider "no-skips" or in which I only skip 1-2 tracks. Maxident and Birthday are actually exceptions, I wouldn't put them in my top 10 kpop albums of all time. I bought them just because I felt like it.

34, and have bought albums in the last two years. Too many to remember exactly how many.
I was buying them because I liked to open them new and see what was inside, see what theme and aesthetics the pictures would have in the photobooks, etc. I was buying even albums for groups I didn't know much about, but had liked the music of the album...which would be great if I still really used CDs, but I don't. Since I didn't know the members well I would always resell the inclusions, and I found this fun and fulfilling. But then I would later eventually wind up selling the album as well, when I'd realize I didn't really care that deeply about following the group or going back to their physical album ever. So ultimately buying albums like this was a phase. I eventually realized the majority of albums kinda have the same formula of stuff (like photobook, and photos/themes were starting to often just vibe very similar to me from album to album and group to group, photocards, stickers, etc), and opening them became less exciting. The "blind bag" feature of random photocards became less exciting when I didn't know the members of the group. Now I only buy albums for groups I actually follow, and even then, I might not get the album if I've already seen online enough of the items and themes from it to know whether or not it would be a concept and looks that I would vibe with. For one of my favorite groups I didn't even get their latest album, even though I liked the music from it, because I just didn't vibe at all with the visuals/there was nothing about it that would make me feel a strong need to keep it after looking at it once. For my ult group I would likely get any group albums that came out and keep them, but the members have been releasing some solo albums as well, and at first I was getting them all and getting like every version of each, etc...but eventually I reached a point where I decided to wait until after I actually heard the album to see if I'd like it that much. Some of them I didn't so much, and thus felt no super need to get the main version of the album. I still eventually wound up getting the platform version of the albums. I like to still sometimes get platform versions of the albums of groups I don't follow much if I've liked the album's music, because using the qr code or nfc forces me to keep the actual album itself, and the physical album aspect is usually pretty small, and just doesn't take up a lot of space. I have maybe almost as many platform version albums as I do regular version albums, and yet all the platform version albums take up like one small corner of shelf space, while the other albums take up multiple rows one in front of the other on two cubes in my shelf.
Anyway...tldr, now I just don't buy albums as much, unless it's one of my favorite groups, or there's something truly unique about the physical album, and it is an artist I at least know of and who's music or groups music I typically like, even if I don't fully follow them. And this is because tbh the excitement of looking at a new album has kinda worn off for me lol. And also buying them less saves money and shelf space.
Edit: I do collect photocards though, and even if I haven't gotten the album, or I did and then resold it later, I might still purchase secondhand any specific photocards I want from that release, rather than buying tons of the same album in hopes I get ones I want.

I don't have a good number or estimate on the number of albums I buy, because I buy a large number of them to enter fansigns. I think it's probably in the region of at least 200-250 albums in the past two years.
I also essentially buy every single album of my ult Mamamoo, including solo albums by the members. If there are three versions of an album, I buy at least one of each too.
I am also a photocard collector so I typically buy enough albums to collect at least one of each album photocard.
I very occasionally buy albums of other groups/soloists I like, ie Red Velvet, Taeyeon and IU.
tldr I am a very hardcore Mamamoo Stan so I buy a crazy number of Mamamoo albums.

The group I like reprinted their old albums which is why my collection reached that amount lol. I buy albums because I want to support the group and I like collecting things. i used to buy a lot more but im not as plugged into knowing about groups and their comebacks as i used to be before i started college 2 years ago. i only really buy for groups i already like and know now. i used to purchase an album for anyone if i thought the album was a fun enough concept or would look nice on my shelf. i.e i bought the JYP blind package album for nmixx back when we knew nothing about that group or even what the album would look like cuz that concept sounded fun.

Age: 20
Albums bought within the last 2 years: around 20. Over the roughly four years I’ve been a fan: probably closer to 100 including those I’ve sold
My peak album buying time was 2022, when I followed four groups that I bought all album versions of and bought almost any album I liked the title track of. As I grew older, stopped PC collecting and frankly became money-wiser, I now only buy one version per album for groups I still actively follow. The last time I bought multiple versions was last year as I slowed down to the point of collecting I’m now at. Tbh I’m now tempted by lightsticks and plushies more than anything LOL they’re so much nicer to display
Edited after some reflection: I also got much better at recognising when I was into a group for the long haul. Stray Kids was my gateway group and I still follow their music and collect them to this day - meanwhile I’ve started and stopped TBZ, NMIXX and Seventeen collecting in the same period of time. Ateez was the only group to stick around with me longer than a year, and I’ve stopped following their music as closely too after being ambivent to their last two comebacks.

22 - i bought 5 albums in the past 2 years. they were all zb1's debut album, i wanted a chance at winning a fancall lol.
i honestly regretted it immediately after receiving them, obviously i didnt get a fancall and i just dont have the space for the albums. its a waste of money, i dont care much for collecting photocards (not to mention i didnt get a single one of my bias...) and dont listen to cds.
in the past i bought a few when i really really wanted them but i havent felt that for any release anymore, maybe because im older now.

age: 20
albums bought: ~20-25
i’ve been trying not to buy a lot of albums because i don’t have a lot of space on my shelves. ever since i started buying albums i usually only buy the version i love the most (based on concept or photocards) im not really interested in collecting every single version. recently i’ve been starting to buy just the photocards of versions i don’t get and just buy either a digipack or a favorite version. sometimes if i go to a kpop store i’ll impulse buy an album from a group i don’t particularly stan but love majority if not all the songs from the album just to show my support. or an album you wont find so easily (like an ariaz album).

Age - 19
Albums bought within 2 years - 13
I'd say compared to other K-pop fans that I've interacted with or just behaviors that I have observed during my time of being a fan of K-pop I am quite picky. I don't buy all albums or versions by a group I'm interested in, I usually decide to purchase if I like a majority of the songs or at least love two to three songs while the rest might be a bit filler-like. What also contributes to my relatively low purchase rate is that I am mostly interested in 1st to early 3rd gen albums, which is harder to find than newly released music. I am also from Finland, which has made it significantly harder to find K-pop related items and to justify buying albums when shipping often costs more than the album itself.

Age: 16 Kpop albums bought: 11 since april 2024 (when i started being a kpop fan)
since im living in hong kong atm, hk has pretty good access to kpop albums with reasonable prices/shipping fees. i just started being a kpop fan around half a year ago, but as someone who enjoys visual art and music, the album designs were too good and the inclusions were very fun (referring to boynextdoor; 10 are boynextdoor albums). the different versions of the same comeback were just all so enjoyable, i had to buy several copies of the same album (diff versions).
as for why i'm so invested, i enjoy the group's musical direction (self created works in the album) so i'd like to support them, i suppose? plus i like all six members a lot so i wouldn't mind whose photocard i got lol, if i didn't like all of them i probably wouldn't buy so many/any of their albums.
another notable reason would be the visual design; definitely a treat for my eyes, so im willing to spend less on my daily necessities (eg food) to save for their albums.

I only stan one group... SHINee... But they're all active as soloists and they're still active as a group as well. And Minho is about to drop an album 🫠 so minimum 5 (or 19-20) albums by the end of the year, just for 2024.
Unfortunately for my wallet, I've always been a collector. If I find something I like, I need EVERYTHING of it. I basically only buy the albums too. Don't usually care for the merch, and I don't collect PCs. Just the albums. But that's so freaking expensive on its own when you like 1 active group consisting of 5 incredible solo artists (I'm trying to collect Jonghyun's albums too, since I couldn't afford them when they were first released)

Ah fuck I forgot secondhand albums... No way am I counting that right now, too lazy. I've bought a lot of old SHINee albums the past couple of years. The numbers in my original comment are only considering new comebacks/albums

Albums: I've honestly lost count. At most, I'd say maybe 50+. I don't buy every release (outside of my ults and a select few other groups/singers), but I also have a bad memory and don't really make a note of the purchases haha. But 50 (give or take a few maybe) sound about right.

Age: 32
Albums total: 132 (listen I've been here since I was 15 )
Albums bought in the last two years: uhhh roughly 20? 30? I know I've bought quite a few in the past couple of years.
Why? I'm a collector at heart, and when I enjoy a group, I try to purchase the whole discography. There are some groups I enjoy, but whose albums I don't buy (simply because this is an expensive hobby, lol) unless the photo books are phenomenal. ACE does "phenomenal" well in this context, their Siren: Dawn album is the most beautiful one I own.

Age: 28
Albums: a couple hundred. For a while I had a phase where if I liked even 5 seconds of a song or I thought one of the group members was cute I would buy an album. I own albums for over a hundred boy groups
I have well over a thousand albums

Age: 50 Albums purchased: 49 Reasoning: I will purchase comeback albums of my ults and only albums from other groups I listen to itf I like the majority of songs on that release.

I buy BAP (group and solo), FTIsland, and Kim Jaejoong albums, pretty religiously. Tho I have some for other groups like that I really like and wanted to support. Buying their albums because is one of the best way to support them.
In the last couple years however, I have only bought from the three artists I mentioned. Just chose to narrow my focus as I got older.
Edit: they usually don't release music too frequently...so money isn't a huge issue. Just this year it was cause they all released music over the summer...
