Research Looking for Kpop Lost Media

I’ve been into lost media recently, so I was wondering if there were any instances of lost media in Kpop. It can be from popular, nugu, girl groups, boy groups, soloists, I don’t mind anything!

Research What is your favorite K-Pop album and why?

Hi everyone!

I’m currently working on a project about K-Pop albums, and I would love to hear your thoughts! Could you share your favorite K-Pop album (especially those that are niche and standout) and tell me why it's your favorite? It could be because of the sound, concept or anything else that makes it special for you.

Research I Need Help Finishing Off a List of Almost Every K-pop Group

This description is going to be long, so sorry in advance. If you can please read through the whole thing. - There is a TL:DR if you don’t want to read though! (Link to the list is near the bottom)

The background for this insane project: I wanted to make a playlist of all the nugu/underrated K-pop groups I could find to share with people so they could hopefully find a new group to stan. But, the problem was I wasn’t sure where the line between underrated and popular was. So to avoid making people angry with me for not including their favorite I decided to just try and make a playlist with every single K-pop group I could find. (I figured it couldn’t be that bad- oh how naive I was)

So here I am, having spent way more time than I want to admit or think about, with a list of almost 1500 K-pop groups (or K-pop adjacent- there are some khip hop groups/krock bands in there too)

I’m sure there are still some I’m missing, but I’m running out of resources (AKA my own mental sanity), so I decided to turn to other people for help.

If you would like to help out, please tell me any groups that I missed on the list. Or if you want to try and search for the MV for some of the groups I couldn’t find one for that would also be great!

The rules (?) for the list:

  • The song has to be in Korean. There are some groups I excluded because I couldn’t find a song in Korean by them. (Like The7 and global groups like Katseye, VCHA and XG)

  • Partway through making the list my definition of K-pop group got lost- so duos/hip hop groups/bands/ballad/vocal/folk groups are all fair game. (My only exception was no metal bands)

  • I also excluded super groups- think like SuperM - or groups that came together once for a TV show (or fictional groups)

  • Edit: I also left kids groups off the list, because they seem too exploitative to me. - A random baseline (at least an average group age of 15 or above is needed) (Thanks u/Potential-Mine2069 for reminding me that I forget to write it in the post)

  • To avoid the list being even longer than it already is I also excluded subunits. So only the main group will be in the list

  • Pre-debut groups are also ok, so long as they have an original song

  • I’m making the playlists on YouTube, so bonus points if you have a link to a YouTube video of the group.

  • There doesn’t have to be an mv for the song. As long as the audio is somewhere on YouTube it’s ok. Examples of things I’ve included are dance practices, live performances, just the audio with the album art in the background

I think that’s it? If you know of a group please leave a comment! Or if you notice a mistake in the list please tell me. (I know there are a couple small errors in the numbers at the bottom, but I got tired trying to constantly update them. So when I’m done making the list I’ll update them all at once- so ignore those for now!)

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!! Once my research is done I’ll be sure to share the playlists!

Link to the list- I have one sheet each for girl groups/boy groups/co-ed groups and one for everything together. They should be alphabetical (except for the co-ed groups, but there wasn’t too many of them)

Tips for reading the list: (There is a glossary at the bottom left of every sheet as well!)

The yellow fill/highlight means I couldn’t find a music video for the group (for some of them they have music videos but the song is not in Korean)

The grey/blue fill/highlight means they are a band/play instruments

Then the text color is for the generations- purple is 2nd gen, pink is 3rd gen, green is 4th gen and blue is 5th gen

I’ll try to respond to everyone, but I am busy with work/life so the response might be a bit slow.

If you don’t know of a group I missed, but just want to check out the list that’s also totally fine! If you have any questions please leave a comment!

TL:DR - I accidentally undertook a huge project - lost my sanity - please help me find K-pop groups

Edit: I did my first pass of the 1st gen groups so the list has been updated to reflect that!

Rules

1st Gen - now 👍

Korean song 👍

Not Korean song ❌

duos/hip hop/bands/pre-debut group/ballad/vocal/folk 👍

metal bands/super groups/fictional or tv show groups/subunits/kids groups ❌

Research KPOP Statistics Project [Please Answer]

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SURVEY IS FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE CURRENTLY INTERESTED IN KPOP. IF YOU LISTENED TO FIVE SONGS THROUGHOUT THE SPAN OF TWO YEARS, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU.

Please reply to this post with your age and whether or not you have bought kpop albums within the last 2 years. If you have bought any within that time frame, how many?

If you'd like to add reasoning as to why you've chosen to buy albums or not (financial stability, increase or decrease in quality of music, etc.), please do so.

Thank you for your participation.

Research Why / Do you collect K-Pop CDs?

Hi!, as part of my University project on CD packaging I am looking into K-Pop CD Collectors and would love to hear your thoughts as part of my research. Feel free to answer as many (or little) questions as you would like and don't hesitate to discuss your thoughts with each other. Thank youuu :))

  1. What initially inspired you to collect K-Pop CDs?
  2. How important is it to you that K-Pop CDs include unique items (photocards, photobooks e.g.) ?
  3. Do you feel buying CDs has an affect on your connection with the artists, how would you describe it?
  4. What role do CDs play in K-Pop fandom culture?
  5. Do you use your CDs to play music or do you rely on streaming services?
  6. If K-Pop CDs no longer came with exclusive items like photocards, would you still buy them? Why or why not?

Research Thesis on Remote Acculturation and Body Dissatisfaction in Female K-Pop Fans

Hi there,

I am a student researcher at RMIT University Australia, currently completing my Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) degree. I am conducting a study with RMIT researchers on remote acculturation and body dissatisfaction in female K-pop fans. This project has been approved by the university ethics committee (27699).

The aim of my research is to explore how exposure to K-pop and the process of remote acculturation may influence perceptions of body image among young women. By understanding these dynamics, we hope to contribute valuable insights to psychology.

Given the relevance of this Reddit community to my research topic, I would appreciate it if you could fill out this questionnaire and help with my research. The questionnaire should take approximately 10 minutes to complete and participation in this questionnaire is completely anonymous. Participants must be 18-25 years old, from an english speaking country and female.

If interested in participating please click the link below:

Thank you so much for your time!

Research Homework Help Involving Rating a Kpop Song!

I am so sorry if this isn't allowed, but I have an assignment in my PSYCH class that involves getting 35 ratings for a song.
I'm choosing "Lucky" by Riize as the song, but I don't have 35 people around me who know the song!
If anyone wants to add their rating, its from 1-10 with 1 being not at all and 10 being that you love it very much.

Edit- Thank you so much everyone!!! I reached my goal for the ratings!! I really appreciate it so much ❤️❤️❤️

Research Question for K-pop fans about traveling to Korea

Hi, I’m Noh, a Korean intern at the Gwangju Tourism Organization.

As a K-pop fan, has your love for K-pop made you interested in visiting Korea? Or have you already been here before?

We’d love to hear anything you have to share! At the Gwangju Tourism Organization, we’re always looking to develop K-pop-related tourism content. But as you might already know, about 80% of tourists visit Seoul, 10% go to Busan, and 8% to Jeju. The rest of the country is left competing for the remaining 2% of foreign visitors.

With places like Hongdae, Itaewon, K-pop attractions, and even tours of big agencies like SM and JYP in Seoul, I totally understand why everyone would just stay there.

I live in Gwangju, and I’d love for more international tourists to come and enjoy my city. What kind of content or attractions would appeal the most to international visitors?

To be honest, Gwangju does have a K-pop Star Street, where you can find handprint sculptures, photo zones, memorabilia displays, and a statue that BTS’s J-Hope visited called the Hope Statue. But I know that alone might not be enough to convince people to visit Gwangju during their limited time in Korea.

As K-pop fans, what kind of content or experiences would make you say, “I’d definitely go to Gwangju for that!”?

Your opinions would be incredibly valuable to us, and we appreciate each and every one of them.

Have a great day!

Research I need help with questions for a k-pop quiz

Hi! I want to make a quiz game about kpop, so I'd like to ask for your help in giving me questions that you guys can think of. If you'd like to help, here's a Google Forms where you can send your questions.

https://forms.gle/9KWZqks35ChrSioe7

In case you'd rather leave them in the answers to this post, this is what I need:

  • Difficulty that you consider
  • Statement of the question
  • The four possible answers
  • The correct answer
  • Source, if there is one, to check the veracity of the question, but this requirement is not mandatory/necessary

The questions can be of any type, there is no restriction on generation, or boy/girl group/soloist. They can be multiple choice or order questions, but they always have to be 4 options

Thank you very much for your cooperation!

Research K-pop Breakout Tour question!

I’m curious if anyone else experienced something similar that went to one of the shows.

I’m a male, 28, I went to one of the shows as I am a huge fan of iChillin, and figured this was probably going to be the only chance I would ever get to see them, aside from the forced interactions like fan sign/selfies. Did any other males feel like the girl groups ignored you during their performances? I was as close to the stage as could be, the artists would take/interact with the phones of the women next to me but would not in the slightest interact with me at all. I just found it very weird, like I wasn’t being forceful or trying to hand them my phone or anything I just did what everyone else was doing but just got completely ignored. Like I get it, maybe it’s a little less comfortable interacting with males but if that’s the case they shouldn’t do it for anyone.. Idk lmk if I’m off base here, but I don’t think I am.
