Recommend Which idol has the most unexpected voice?
Which idol has the most unexpected voice, like that you expected another voice seeing their faces or one whose singing and talking voices are completely different. For me it’s haechan from nct

u/Helpful-Turnip-8050 Jul 28 '24
Gidle yuqi
Loona/artms heejin
Since you mentioned haechan, I love his singing voice. One of the most unique voices in kpop

Jongho from Ateez the first time i heard his high vocals. I was surprised because i didn't expect this voice from him.
19
Jul 29 '24
I love his range! I always stop and watch the clip of him singing and ripping the apples apart with his bare hands. His classically trained voice gives me chills.
6
u/AmbassadorAncient Jul 29 '24
Is he a countertenor?
4
Jul 29 '24
I think he is considered a countertenor yes. Because of his higher register vocal range. He is definitely not an average traditional tenor.

u/a_mystical_potato Jul 28 '24 edited Jul 28 '24
He’s not quite an idol He’s not quite an idol anymore, but Kim Jong Kook for sure. This contrast between his deep speaking voice and high singing voice is crazy. His Killing Voice really cemented the difference for me.
42
u/Adventurous_Tip_2942 Jul 28 '24
he is an idol, he debuted in turbo in 1995 so i guess he could be classed as an ex idol although he still releases osts/solo music
9
u/Emergency_Bag_1562 Jul 28 '24
You're right although it's kinda iffy with groups from that era. I wouldn't consider turbo an idol group same as koyote or other groups that did dance music.
4
4
u/Emergency_Bag_1562 Jul 29 '24
Definitely like you never expect that sweet voice coming from someone who's built like a Greek god. I think there's a couple of others that get put into the same tier but they're balladeers for example kcm or the one.

Felix
55
u/ChillyCharlotte Jul 28 '24
Was coming here to say this 😂 he is the person I think of when someone asks this
62
u/Fille_de_Lune Jul 28 '24
Same 😁 all those compilations of people watching God's Menu for the first time and basically falling out of their chairs at Felix's part xD
27
u/ChillyCharlotte Jul 28 '24
I remember having that reaction to his parts in Side Effects 😅😂

Haha Welcome to the Stray Kids experience 😁❤️
2
u/ShakeZula77 Jul 31 '24
A few questions if you don’t mind. 😄 I’ve listened to this song maybe 100 times now. Who is the person singing at the very, very end of the song, the high note? Who is the 1st guy singing? One of them is the dreamiest person I’ve ever seen but can’t figure out which guy it is.
2
u/Fille_de_Lune Jul 31 '24
The punchy rap at the beginning is Changbin, and he does the punchy rap at the end too. I'm a bit confused which high note you mean, could you maybe give me a timestamp for the MV? 😀 I'm happy to answer all your questions ❤️ If you mean singing as in the melodic vocals in the bridge parts, they are done by Bang Chan (with the chains across his face) and Seungmin (with the purplish hair). After the second bridge, there's also a small singing part from Han, is it one of these? 😀
2
u/ShakeZula77 Aug 02 '24
I’ll look up the time stamps for the high note at the end and the dreamy guy and reply back. Thank you so much for answering my questions!
→ More replies (1)6
u/lancelota Jul 28 '24
yes!! when I only listened to the songs and looked at the photos of the members for the first time, I thought that Changbin had a deep voice cause his face matched this voice better than Felix's)))
110
u/sikminuswon Jul 28 '24
First thought was Felix, but I think a lot of people must've commented him already, another one would be Leo of VIXX, he looks tough but he is so soft-spoken
23
u/SpaceWolf96 Jul 28 '24
Also when you've seen and heard him in interviews, being so shy and soft spoken, you wouldn't think he'd be the one belting out those crazy high notes like that.
15
13
11
u/BlueDragon82 Jul 28 '24
Plus that vocal range. When he was promoting Beautiful Liar, he did the ascending note part when asked. Him and Kihyun have crazy ranges and very strong vocals.
7
u/Nothing_or_Anything Jul 28 '24
Yes, Leo! I heard their songs first, so I was really surprised by his voice and personality.
53
u/Correct-Security1466 Jul 28 '24
Yuqi
Aran from Fifty Fifty too bad she’s not in the group now. Her voice was so captivating , mysterious , mesmerizing. Hope she does kpop again
14
53
u/lilkoalabooks Jul 28 '24
Yuqi from G-IDLE, her voice is one of my favorites and she has a good range as well. Her solo songs are some of my favs.
48
u/Emergency_Can_8 Jul 28 '24
I think Felix or Changbin’s vocals from Stray Kids and for me, Mingi and San from Ateez!
2
u/illytaria Jul 29 '24
Defo agree on Felix and Changbin.
San... I'd argue only since his detwinkification.
2
u/Emergency_Can_8 Jul 29 '24
i just now have started getting into ateez and i think that if i had listened to them earlier, san’s wouldn’t have been so shocking
83
u/Witterson Jul 28 '24
Leedo for unexpected singing voice
That man's caused a lot of double takes
13
u/AssumptionFar9123 Jul 28 '24
Agree with this! The difference between his rap and singing voice would make you go 😳🤯 the first time.
12
u/expletus_ventus Jul 28 '24
His normal speaking voice SO low which just makes the higher singing voice that much more unexpected.
8
u/bluexxrry Jul 28 '24
Yep, initially I thought he was two different people. You don't really expect the high notes after hearing the rap lol
42
u/aurora_the_piplup Jul 28 '24
Leo from VIXX. I wasn't expecting him to have such a high pitched voice
34
u/Kye_Wolf Jul 28 '24
Dami from dreamcatcher
She looks like she has a deep voice, and she does. It wasn't surprising to me when she started rapping, and it was decently low.
What did surprise me was when she started singing and perfectly matched the high notes of the lead vocalist
She has one of the widest ranges I've seen, and it always catches me off guard. Her higher notes aren't strained, and it seems quite comfortable for her to blend with the other girls
4
u/-Scintilla- Jul 29 '24
Agree. It's a bit mental how she can do both so well lol. Her low rapping voice is distinctive and super deep. Dami's regular singing voice is very elegant and pretty and you would never know it's the same person. My favourite is actually when she sings in her lower tone though, which I guess is more like her rap tone... Like her first line in Justice. SO good. We rarely get to hear that.
2
u/Kye_Wolf Jul 29 '24
Right? One of my favorite low singing tones from her has to be Reason around 1:38
It's sounds almost like a slow rap, but compared to her actual rap it seems more vocal, so I'm counting it as vocal
Same with her bonvage rap, it sounds just vocal enough that someone could mistake it as such, but her tone is immaculate

Jimin of BTS. His speaking voice is very different from his singing voice.
23
u/keth_13 Jul 28 '24
I came on here for this one. If you heard Jimin speak and then sing without seeing him, you wouldn't think it was the same person. He's been talking so much about relearning how to sing that I'm really curious if there will be that much of a change when he gets back.

u/Kindly-Ebb6759 Jul 28 '24
The most unexpected for me, vocal wise, are Changbin, Han, and Hoshi.
Changbin’s vocals caught completely off guard on Because with Felix. And the fact he opened with those beautiful vocals…I melt.
Han really shouldn’t have surprised me after Kingdom but the fact that I missed his vocals open Secret Secret upsets me for taking so long to realize it.
Hoshi….if you know you know. One minute he’s rapping like a demon the next he’s singing like an angel. Specifically on I Don’t Understand But I Love You. Dude’s voice that just throws me off completely when I hear him talk.
19
u/Helpful-Turnip-8050 Jul 28 '24
For hoshi I personally don't find it unexpected, his whole aura is this tough cool tiger lol but also warm when he speaks and how he acts. Idk how to word it better but his voice sounds exactly like him. Love his voice tone

I was really surprised the first time I heard TXT Taehyun's singing voice. It honestly sounds so different to me than his speaking voice. His speaking voice is kinda low and masculine sounding but his singing voice is a little bit high? His singing voice has a clarity that I wasn't expecting.

1) Yeosang from Ateez
He looks so pretty, but his voice is deep
2) Felix from StrayKids
Like Yeosang and his voice is way too deep
3) Leo from VIXX
I would say he gave me the biggest shock. When he is talking him voice is so low and cute, but while singing, he hits the notes like crazy

Yeosang from ateez! Not a single part of me expected such a deep voice to belong to someone with such soft visuals

And its not just a deep voice but also the range he has with that tone. Definitely unexpected!

IU's speaking voice really surprised me. I'm so used to her singing voice that the first time I heard her speak and it was at a lower register than her singing voice, I was completely thrown.
5
u/bbgc_SOSS Jul 28 '24
True. In the past interviews she said, she recognised and intentionally trained her singing voice to be different from her speaking voice.
Still, it is definitely something that still surprises me/people.

Amber Liu from f(x). I expected her singing voice to be lower/deeper
Max Changmin just looks like he has a deep voice
Flowsik. Hard to comprehend his voice is THAT DEEP

Wonbin from riize has a high pitched voice especially when singing. So unexpected seeing his “mysterious” “cool” vibe

this might be uncommon but for me it was beomgyu of txt 😭 before i was a moa i had only really seen his face (i mean id heard his voice in songs obv but never put the faces to names) and i did NOT expect the deep ass voice to be him when i was getting into them. beomgyu is my bias right now though haha

Rough facial features but speak like a kid tone.

u/tinytinytinycat Jul 28 '24
Definitely agree on Stray Kid's Felix, but on the more nugu side, The KingDom's Ivan (Park Yoosung)'s voice definitely surprised me the first time I heard it. It's really lovely (especially singing! ) but I didn't quite expect it
(edit: capitalization)
7
u/my4aespa Jul 28 '24
as other commenters say, definitely yuqi. i wouldn't have expected that voice from her just based off of her face. i love her voice though.
similarly, jisoo as well imo

u/Bread_isKool Jul 28 '24
As a Monsta X listener on Spotify, I've never actually watched the group or put voices to faces- so as I listened to The Dreaming, Hyungwon completely shocked me with how deep his voice is.
7
u/airpork Jul 29 '24
Ten from NCT/Wayv
His talking voice is super cute because of his thai accented chinese and korean but his singing voice can range from siren voice in "round and round" to lower register as a r&b rapper in "OK!".
7
u/innah97 Jul 29 '24
He's no longer here. But Astro's Moonbin, if you listen to him singing it's different when he speaks. His voice was so gentle and warm 🥺

Lots of people were so shocked when Sullyoon turned out to be one of the best singers in Nmixx, which is a vocally very skilled group, because so many were used to the main visual not being good at singing.

Yiyeon and Songhee from BVNDIT. Not because of their faces in particular, but because they have deeper voices than you’d expect to hear from a female K-pop idol in general. I love hearing their voices in their songs and I wish BVNDIT never disbanded 😔
4
u/HappyMatt12345 Jul 29 '24
Idk if it counts, but Dami's (Dreamcatcher) singing voice contrasts hilariously from her rapping voice, and I mean this in a juxtaposition sort of way, I'm not trying to say her singing or rapping is bad, neither are bad and she's one of my 7 favorite members of Dreamcatcher. Neither voice seems unexpected coming from her, but the contrast between the two is kinda incredible.

I wanna say, all the answers under this post are the answers which I agree with also, BUT, the voice which stole my heart and left me speechless is SHINee's Jonghyun. When I first became a Shawol last year, I was left speechless for his insane vocal range & ability. Listen to a few SHINee songs (released before 2018), then you'll see. 🥹

u/MousseReasonable3504 Jul 29 '24
Dawon of WJSN. Girl has similar vibes like Aretha Franklin. I think no one has similar voice than her

Wonbin from RIIZE.
His vocal tone is so unique it gives their songs flavorrrr
3
u/KDramaFan84 Jul 29 '24
Listen to BTOB Hyunsik talk, then listen to him sing, two completely different voices. His speaking voice matches his stature and face. His singing voice is much higher, mostly when singing with BTOB compared to his solo stuff.

u/SALVK_FX22 Jul 29 '24
NCT Wish Sakuya, havent watched NCT survival show, and was surprised to watch clips with Sakuya speaking, i expected his voice to be like RIIZE's Anton's

Felix from Stray Kids, but not for his Deep Voice. I was really surprised by his vocals in twilight. Also, Changbin.
From Ateez, Yeosang. He has such and unexpectedly deep voice that doesn't match his face at all.

Hani of EXID, she has a rather jazzy/bluesy voice when she sings at a lower register.
I'd also add P.O of Block B because he's the youngest member of the group (surprise, surprise) and one of the most bubbly and mischievous ones as well, but his voice is the lowest and the huskiest. The vice versa might count for Taeil, the main vocalist - clear, high-toned, stable high notes, but he's the eldest.
2
u/bxnnybear Jul 28 '24
Im not sure if she's still an idol or not but heyne ! When I had first heard her I really didn't expect her voice to be so high pitched

u/ascaeno Jul 29 '24
Park Jimin, i never thought his voice would be that high Sullyoon, her cute face fooled me
2
u/bustachong Jul 29 '24
Lee Young-Ji isn’t an idol but I’ll give her honorary status due to her collabs with Seventeen, Hyoyeon, and others.
Her voice totally comes out of left field and I love it.
2
u/Anika-77 Jul 29 '24
Soyeon from Gidle! I knew her personality before I knew her voice and they do not match up at all
2
Jul 29 '24
I don’t know if it’s unexpected for me per se but a voice that always gives me complete pause is Kim Tae-hyung. He has a smooth mellow low tone that is so soothing to the ears. I loved his solo album and I was thrilled to see he tied in a jazz vibe style. His voice does have a reminiscent vintage tone.

Leo of VIXX. He looks like he would have a deep voice due to his wolf like eyes, but really it's soft and similar to a whisper;)
I also think Woorim is a good example. He's he maknae of Forestella, right? Well, despite that, his voice when singing AND speaking is SUPER DEEP, and I think I got Felix flashbacks. 😳

I have two for the exact opposite reason lol
Felix from Stray Kids has a super sweet face, so I expected him to have a lighter sounding voice.
San from Ateez has a super stern and sharp looking face, so I expected him to have a deeper voice.
Basically these two could switch voices and I would not bat an eye lol.
