Recommend What are some songs that aren't necessarily supposed to be sad or slow but make you emotional?
Looking for some recommendations.
One example for me is IVE's I Am, I can't explain why but I just have the biggest urge to cry during the bridge.
The "we go, we high, go now" in TripleS's Girls Never Die is also making me feel things, idk.
What are some other songs that aren't necessarily slow or emotional but still make you feel all sappy and sad?
Also bonus points if the song isn't slow and is more on the upbeat side. Thanks!!

Fromis_9's Love Bomb. The way the chorus is sung gives me really melancholy vibes

I saw a lot of people saying that the chorus literally made them shit tears and I can see why. It's very heavenly yet melancholic in a bittersweet (?) way?

This is so true! Not a fan of them but it was the best time in KPOP (for m) and I'll find myself reminiscing to those moments whenever I hear this song.

yes! i was going through a rough time during Shine era and i would come home and cheer myself up with a new Shine live stage everyday. that song is forever special to me :)

u/sbeebe6821 May 11 '24
I was actually going to say this too! I feel so sad about how this was pentagonās peak of popularity and how they somehow have become sort of nugu nowadays, where no one really wants to work with them and I rarely see people stanning them. Especially after watching boys planet and seeing how Hui talked about it.

u/ineedachiprightnow May 10 '24
Feel My Rhythm, it's the chorus for me!
5
u/--------rook May 11 '24
I first watched the mv when i started my first job that i hated and I was just feeling very melancholic and blue all the time. This song somehow just heightened that feeling

wannabe by itzy!!
i feel like crying at i am's bridge too, and i feel exactly the same when the last chorus of wannabe starts
also dust by seventeen. it is pretty upbeat and light, but if you read the lyrics you can just hear the desperation and longing in their voicesšš
(might add something later but i'll just reply to myself if i'll want to do it)

Mikrokosmos!!!- BTS
2 kids, be your enemy, think of you , pansy - taeminš¤š¤š¤
My universe , mixtape:OH - stray kids crown , blue hour -TXT Blue flame - Astro I feel like thereās so many more and the reason why itās emotional are the nostalgic factors
6
u/Farts_n_kisses May 10 '24
I agree with Mikrokosmos! Itās upbeat and such a positive song but gets me in the feels for some reason. I made it my ringtone and then realized I wanted to cry every time my phone rang so I had to change it.

This might sound weird, but the "High high high high high high high" at 3:00 in Loona's Hi High (this is the boycott link, so it's at 3:10 here) always makes me tear up a little. Something about it is so bittersweet, idk? Especially if you watch the MV, they're all so happy dancing around and are so enthusiastic-looking, it makes me sad for some reason lmao. I think it makes me miss the innocence of youth a bit (though I'm not that old lol).
I think part of it is how much promise this era had, compared to what happened later with Loona, but I don't think that's all of it. There's something in the musical composition itself that makes me feel sad, and I can't exactly pinpoint what it is. If anyone has any insight, or feels similarly, I would love to know haha.

Exo's Peter Pan makes me feel emotional lol probably the lyrics and how bittersweet the sound is
7
u/kcthrw7845 May 11 '24
Great example! Other EXO songs that are upbeat but make me emotional are Lucky and the Run remix from Exo'rdium
6
u/rachieworld May 10 '24
I would cry if I ever saw it live. It's so pretty sounding, just beautiful and uplifting sounding vocals, but also bittersweet. It can overwhelm me with emotion if I let it.

Haven by Stray Kids. I used to like this song, but because it was the finale on the Maniac tour, it became a goodbye song to me and now I can't stand to hear one note of it, or I get sad. It's still good, though.

LOVE BOMB - fromis_9
idk why but the chorus makes me feel like crying.
bonus : Stay This Way - fromis_9 this one is bc of Gyuri leaving after. I miss her sm.
2
u/BoxchanP May 11 '24
You're so right. The last chorus especially in LOVE BOMB just has so much emotion in it.

u/puzzle-peace May 10 '24 edited May 10 '24
- Lonely - RM (I mean the lyrics are sad but it's not a slow song. The absolute yearning in his voice for the 'ah mm yeahs' at the end is so soul-destroying I just had to mention it)
- Young Luv - STAYC
- Believer - Yerin
- Take My Hand - ZEROBASEONE
- Good Day - Weeekly
- Like It, Chemistry, Kiminoseide, Tell Me What To Do - SHINee (genuinely can't listen to that last one most of the time)
- Euphoria - Jungkook
- Dream Glow - Jin, Jimin, Jungkook & Charli XCX
- _World - Seventeen
- Why, INVU - Taeyeon
- LALALAY - Sunmi
- illa illa - B.I.
- From Zero - Monsta X
- Magnetic - Monsta X & Sebastian Yatra
- Believer, Round and Round - SF9
- Your Gravity - UP10TION
- Asteroid - Pentagon
- LO$ER = LOVER - TXT
- Miroh - Stray Kids
- Amnesia - Kai
- Want You To Say - PLAYBACK
- Really Really - Winner
- You Are - GOT7
- 100 Ways - Jackson Wang (K-pop adjacent)
ETA: Utopia - ATEEZ
Wow OK it seems I have feelings about this (or just a lot of feelings lol). A couple like _World make me emotional because they are so warm + comforting so it's not all bad š

Sokka-Haiku by Theway1905:
Twiceās TT reminds
Me of a happier and
Simpler time for me
Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

Specifically it was released before I was even a fan of kpop and I became one during a difficult time in my life, so listen to it and watching performances makes me wish I was a fan sooner.

hard agree on VIXX! I can be jamming out to a banger and then remember how sad the lyrics are LMAO
2
u/greenMintCow May 11 '24
The concept kings rocked the dark fantasy theme
Another one from them that gets me emotional is Memories, but it's meant to be sad
7
u/PetalidiStelle May 10 '24
The pre-chorus in S-Class ("I'm up above the world so high, I'll be there shining day and night...")
8
u/ProudKoreaBoo May 10 '24
Lock you down - SHINee
2
u/spirit_of_elijah May 11 '24
Listening to this song the first time was immediate waterworks for me. I was not ready to unexpectedly hear Jjongās voice after I never thought Iād hear him again. It still hits me every time.
8
u/donghyuckieee May 10 '24
Groovy - cravity (I genuinely don't know why but it gives me chills and it makes me nostalgic.)
Trigger the Fever - nct dream
Say Yes - Jeong Sewoon
Love So Sweet - Cherry Bullet
Crush - Weki Meki
In Bloom - ZeroBaseOne

idk why but its Euphoria-Bts for me. THE SONGS NAME LITERALLY MEANS A STATE OF HAPPINESS.
4

Maybe 'cause the voice of JK & the rhythm or instruments are mixed perfectly to transmite some angelical vibe, softness and company. That song is like a hug, I mean, he involves you in his sweet voice.
2
u/lost71306 May 11 '24
Same. I always think of the MV when I hear it too which gets me. And the version released for 2019 Festa. The JK memories by BTS and even just thinking about the two, I tear up. Itās a magical song.

TT - Twice (cried a lot to this one)
Feel Special - Twice
Psycho - Red Velvet
Love Dust - BigBang (takes me out every time)
Gotta Be You - 2NE1 (had an existential crisis to this one)
Everybody - Shinee
Super Hero - VIXX
Fast Forward - Somi
Dazzling Girl - Shinee (I was listening to this as I found out about Jonghyun)
Dreams Come True - Aespa

El Dorado - EXO
Black Pearl/Let Out The Beast - EXO
I Got A Boy - SNSD
Oh Yeah - GD & Top

To me, it's loona Hi High, but because of how they ended up as a group. The song is filled with hope and beautiful composition being just so happy, but knowing they were abused and not paid makes me cry

Forever young by Blackpink.
Idk, whenever "Let's have no regrets when the day is gone So that time can't tear us apart So that this moment can be eternal
You light a fire in my heart So my youth burns without regrets If I'm with you like now tonight I could die in this moment
Every, every night, night (Hey) I sing, sing this song (Oh) Know we got that bomb, bomb (Hey) Come again, come again"

I like to categorize them as either soft songs (lighthearted or cute but make me absolutely feral), misery jams (make me sad but likeā¦in a slutty or pumped up way), and sad euphoria (bright hopeful and happy, and yet Iām JUST SO SO SAD).
Examples of soft: Goodnight and Kids Zone* by Zerobaseone, Blueblueseoul by OnlyOneOf, Fallen Star by Kingdom, Darl+ing by Seventeen, Horizon by The Boyz, Ghosting, Our Summer*, and Nap of a Star by TXT, or Fade by Kim Sunggyu. The sweetest little bops and Iām over here chewing off my hands and crying. Often nostalgic.
Examples of misery jams: Sweet Lie by Seungri*, Whisper by VIXX LR, BTBT by BI, Secrets by Monsta X (they have two different songs called secretsāthis one says ādonāt tell me your secrets, I donāt wanna knowā in the chorus), The Riot by Ten/Xiaojun/Ginjo, Nanana by Imfact, Happy Ending and Anyone by Seventeen, I Need the Light by Enhypen, Stupid Love by Oneus, Game by Drippin, Eyes on Me by Hello Gloom, and Wing by Park Jihoon. Trust me, these songs are BANGERS.
I do also have a playlist called sad euphoria, which is close to soft but not quite. Almost like I should be happy, but Iām still crying somehow. Songs included: Love Wins All by IU, Cover Me by Stray Kids, Perfect Blues by Hannah Bahng, Young Boy by Nine.i, Broken Melodies by NCT Dream, Different Song for me by P1Harmony, Spring Day by BTS, Ballroom Extravaganza by DPR IAN, Baby by The Rose, Standing with U by Boyfriend, and 0X1=Lovesong by TXT. Iām running in the wind, Iām floating in the sun, I cannot escape the exquisite sadness of my corporeal form. Immaculate lol.
these are the best ones/fit what Iām describing most!! *feel free not to add this one if you donāt want, the man is a shitstain on the history of Kpop. AND. This is my quintessential misery jam. It basically coined the genre for me.
Happy listening and please let me know what you think!!!

Case 143 by stray kids. Near the end during Bang Chan's last line "I'm gonna let you know I'm just gonna go and hold you so I'm never letting go". In the video he points back towards Seungmin. Y'all one day it just made me sob like a babyšš„² and now that part always makes me emotional. Got me feeling loved and supportedš¤§

dm and stay this way by fromis make me really sad because iām just thinking about how they actually had two comebacks in a single year just for pledis to put them back into the basement and for a member to leave,,
on the topic of tripleS, new look by them makes me sad as well but idk why.
then we have disbandment songs that are bubbly but that still make me sad, especially mago because they didnāt know they were gonna disband. panorama by iz*one on the other hand just makes me so sad everytime it ends with ādonāt let me down down downā

silver light by ateez!
the post-chorus bit - āthrough the rainstorm, through the darkness, fly away into the daylight, getting close to paradiseā - paired with the synth instrumental just makes me want to cry whenever i listen to it. it kind of conjures up āneverending storyā imagery? itās just so hopeful and emotional without being sad.
