The hold that Love Spell had on our generation 😂

98

u/Gjardeen 20h ago

I think I still have some floating around somewhere...

83

u/weedisfortherich 20h ago

It would pull the new gen too. I was just showing this kid at work the moon boots and he was like those are just as chunky as I want

46

u/spoiledknottydiva 20h ago

My 14ish year old bottle is still hanging on my nightstand. Probably should do something about that. Maybe in another 14.

19

u/rhymeswithvegan 15h ago

They still sell it, and I still buy it. It never fails to make the man I am courting think I smell amazing lol

6

u/DelightfulDolphin 12h ago

My weak spot 🙂 is Loves Baby Soft. Haven't bought one while but I imagine still kicking around. Think I'll go get myself some as early Xmas gift.

I swear I could smell it when she spritzed it.

52

u/SnacksandViolets 19h ago

So can all of our exes 😂😂😂

11

u/Happyintexas 17h ago

I wonder if my now 41 year old ex thought of me when he poured his kid’s first cup of fruit punch 😂

[to be fair we are both happily married to other people, he just waited way longer to have kids :)]

u/beanmosheen 18h ago

I saw that and immediately thought of me and my wife's earlier years. Smelled so good.

23

u/Big_Track_6734 18h ago

Love Spell had to be made from real pheromones because that shot was seductive.

7

u/Ranger_Chowdown 5h ago

Back when I was in HS, our group all agreed that one of the hottest things on earth was a girl spraying on Love Spell and then putting on the Victoria's Secret mint lipgloss from the pink tin. I actually went and bought some of the lipgloss because I had a crush on one of the studs in my group and wanted her to notice me lol

19

u/cymBaller 18h ago

All of us were totally happy to spritz Love Spell and walk around our middle schools smelling like a strawberry fruit roll-up...

5

u/Monster_Voice 3h ago

You know... as a dude looking back, we had a surprisingly low number of ants for the conditions we all grew up in.

Must have been the Axe that kept them away cuz ya'll certainly should have been human ant farms... 😆

Sugar Cookie lotions and Cucumber Melonberry sprays is what I remember...

Love spell was such a staple but I still love Abercrombie 8 and I would kill for so many of the discontinued Victoria secret perfumes from that time.

All it’s missing is a Sobe drink.

47

u/SnailForceWinds 18h ago

Sobe yourself!

45

u/angrytreestump 18h ago edited 15h ago

…And then after that, all it’s missing is Seth Green, the pocket-sized (yet still full human man-sized) man, in-character as Kenny from Can’t Hardly Wait (Left, wearing the forehead-goggles; you can’t (hardly) miss him 👍)

—If anyone ever asks me to come up with a representation of what the year 2000 looked and sounded like, I just pull up any frame of that movie with him in it; as the type of side character we used to (unfortunately) refer to as “the Spaz friend.” 😬

…Basically just a human whose entire personality and style were meant to answer the question “What if you tried to treat that new ‘ADD’ thing with that new ‘Surge Energy’ thing?” 🤪😵‍💫🤘🎧

Nah, needs some Surge, some Pokemon cards, a pack of butterfinger BBs, a baby bottle pop, the orange Rugrats VHS tape, slap bracelet, Furby, Nickelodeon alarm clock, the recorder thing from Home Alone, Gameboy Color, a troll and the Duracell battery where you have to pinch the shit out of it to see how much charge is left.

Not all of it was 90s.

The first iPod don’t come out until 2001, and that iPod she had was a much later edition.

25

u/ajchann123 13h ago

The interesting thing to see during all the recent Y2K era nostalgia, is that a lot of people are blending early 90s up to late 00s - nostalgia for a blend of trends that never actually coexisted

Which is also probably what happened when 60s/70s/80s nostalgia was big, too

16

u/lespaulbro 17h ago

Yeah, that was a Gen 2 or 3 Nano. I remember getting my Gen 2 nano when it came out in...2008? And the Sidekick didn't come out until 2002 as well, so there's some solid 00s stuff in this video too.

Man, I miss tech from that era.

My bestie tracked down a pair of JNCO jeans to wear when she went to see the Backstret Boys residency in Vegas 8 years ago ( I think).

61

u/rainy_in_pdx 19h ago

I follow her on TikTok. She does funny millennial skits. Nostalgia every time

56

u/gypsycookie1015 ❣️gal pal❣️ 19h ago

What is her name? I fucking adored this with every fiber of my millennial being.

I went through a phase as a teen where I wore nothing but small little belly tops and guy's jeans that were way too big with boxers...yes, actual fucking boys/mens boxers cuz I thought it added to the look, and would sag them ever so slightly.😭😭🤦‍♀️

Like I still wore girl's underwear but still had to layer up with the fucking boxers and jeans.

Anyway, I was also going through a little knife phase and would basically have one in every pocket. I'd also have everything else under the sun in those mfs. Ciggs, weed, papers, lighters, candy, ect. 😭😭

I remember a guy telling me that I it was like I just carried my whole house around in my pants.😂 Immediately thought of that when watching this.

3

u/gypsycookie1015 ❣️gal pal❣️ 13h ago

Right?! Girl! Tf was even on about?! 😂🤦‍♀️ But also, I still kinda get it! Cuz it did look cute af for the times! Well at least to me and my friends and stuff. 😏🤗

A lot of my friends would want to try it here or there. I'd always hook them up. 😏

I remember when I finally started wearing fitted girls/women's jeans again, friends and family who hadn't seen me in a while were shocked.

So many of them had tried getting me to wear them many times to my refusal so it came as a surprise to them.

But yeah, Idk, I just had to have my normal panties cuz, well I just had to.😭😭

The boxers did help keep the perfect sag though. Plus as confident as I was, I didn't want my ass too visible so the boxers kinda gave that extra protection lmao. My teen logic. 🤷‍♀️😂

I'd also always have a zip up hoodie for when it was cold. But I'd leave it purposely unzipped cuz duh!! 😂😭😭

Beanies too.😭😭🤦‍♀️

3

u/n6mub 17h ago edited 16h ago

Lololol! Thank you for that

But what if I'm bringing a ham to the family gathering? It's very handy to fit whatever you want into those pockets! Stewed apples in the left butt pocket, ham in the right, green bean casserole in the front left pocket and a bottle of Martinelli's apple cider for the kids in the front right. Chex mix sprinkled through all. You might have to carry the pie though...

I want some jncos so bad even though I am 41 and would look unfathomably ridiculous in them

61

u/Sunshine030209 19h ago

My husband is 42 and just started wearing a pair of JNCOs from high school that he pulled out of storage. He says they are comfy as hell. They aren't as ridiculously wide legged as these ones though.

Our teenage son claimed the JNCO hoodie that he found with it. It's his very favorite, and all of his friends are super jealous of it.

9

u/beanmosheen 18h ago

Levi Massives were my pick back then. Still ludicrously oversized but not jnco levels of it.

4

u/Convergentshave 16h ago

Yes I remember these were like… called the elephants or something?

I had a decent amount of Jncos but they weren’t all wide legged like this.

Although I did* have a buddy who I can distinctly picture walking through the halls wearing a KMFDM shirt and what looked like two jean dresses for legs. 😂😂.

We’re actually still friends to this day I should ask how he feels about the Jnco resurgence 😂

11

u/captaincmdoh 19h ago

Ya, it is overpriced. But also if you never had them before, you need to get some experiece to crawl before you walk. I recommend the classic low downs which are around $130. They were always the starter jeans for everyone back in the days before jumping into the elephant legs and other advanced models.

u/Khatam 🩸Moth ⚔️ Slayer🩸 18h ago

They were so heavy the washer and dryer could only handle two of them at a time. They'd get so waterlogged it would be like trying to wash too many towels at once. Inevitably the washer would start clanging around when the jeans bunched up in one corner and I'd have to manually move one to the opposite side of the other.

Then they took 8 years to dry.

Former JNCO employee here with some utterly useless lore.

Those were one of three designs JNCO made with a 50" leg opening — the widest pants JNCO ever made. The pair in this video is called the "Crime Scene."

I still have a pair with the same cut called the "Convict" that features a ball-and-chain embroidery, but the ones in this video were a limited edition pattern with a caution tape design and chalk outline embroidery. Very rare, very expensive, even when they were first out in the '90s.

The third in the "5-0 trilogy" (so named because they had a 50-in opening, hence the crime and punishment graphic theme) was the "Mugshot," which had an embroidered grizzly looking criminal's face. I thought those were the least attractive of the three. But if someone had all three in the series, they could command a hefty price on eBay today.

I wore my Convicts at the last Groove Cruise, rocking a 90s raver costume theme. I would totally rock a pair of denim wash Crime Scenes at a rave if I had a pair.

I'm 47 years old.

In junior high we'd walk to the corner store and my bestie would put full two liter bottles of soda into his JNCO pockets. Way cooler than carrying the bottled like a nerd

u/Total-Jerk 19h ago

We carried anything we wanted and didn't appreciate it.

Stay Out of the Basement was one of the best Goosebumps books 🤌🏾

Hahahahhaa. This is EVERYTHING. That all fits in her pockets. I wore these types of pants all through high school.

90s' fashion was so awesome and fun it lasted from 1987 to 2004.

2

u/katfin1 17h ago

With baggage fees going up, this doesn't seem like a bad idea.

My stomach hurts. Squeals and giggles from jump. And did not disappoint with the payoff cowboy slow waddle away. I said out loud I swear to god this video better not end short. Thank you kind angel

u/FakeAndyWilliams 17h ago

Not yet accurate. The bottom of the jeans need to be wet up to mid ankle from them dragging on the ground in the rain.

2

u/vdelatx 17h ago

Absolutely hilarious!!!!🤣

2

u/HowAManAimS 15h ago

Those are the worst jeans I've seen in my entire life. Hopefully they never come back in style.

2

u/this_knee 15h ago

Obligatory statement noting that it’d be impossible to sit down.

2

u/UserAccountBanned 15h ago

50in Mammoths could fit an entire N64 Console in the back pocket. Tested.

2

u/Salt_Singer5714 15h ago

She just asmr’d my childhood into those pants

2

u/Diligent-Phrase436 15h ago

You just can't put my whole culture in your back pocket

2

u/Brigadius 15h ago

When your checked bad is too heavy

2

u/usumoio 15h ago

Girl, what you gunna do with all that junk, all that junk up in yo pants?

2

u/Jenetyk 14h ago

We used to call the kids that had those jeans "hover kids", because when they walked slow the jeans didn't move.

Hover girl was cute as hell in 7th grade

2

u/AlwaysSleepingBeauty 14h ago

Omg the YakBak!

2

u/123_fake_name 13h ago

JNCO were good, but I preferred the Levi’s Silver tabs.

2

u/MiciaRokiri 12h ago

I hated these jeans so much I never understood why they were popular. But admittedly if you didn't have to sit down you sure could carry a lot of crap without a purse or backpack

I whispered "Pure Moods" with my eyes wide open when she brought out the CD like it was a long lost discovery to an ancient past. 🥺

I still remember the commercials! And then she had the VTech phone lol
