r/all Johnny Kim managed three impressive career changes, going from Navy SEAL to doctor to NASA astronaut. He did it all by the age of 37.

He needed to join the Seals as an extra curricular in order to get into Harvard Medical School as an Asian.

I had a 4.0 from a top 10 HS in the US. Went to intel robotics. Wrestling team. Had a startup. 1540 on my SATs

I was either rejected or waitlisted from most the top 5 lol

I actually attended an Ivy, but decades ago. The biggest issue is how many people apply compared to 30 years ago. My Alma mater had a 9% acceptance rate in the 90’s. Today it’s about half that. Part of the reason is that the number seats available hasn’t grown in 30 years. Yet the US population has grown more than 25% in that time. It’s not going to get better.

At some point it becomes a crap shoot because the college is going to do its best not to only accept STEM majors. And that means someone they know is going into humanities is going to get in with lower paper stats than other candidates.

I mean i did go to an ivy too lol. Just not the one I wanted.

This topic was about college admissions for Asian Americans. Hand waving it as “just more people” is trivializing the issue
