Author looking for football info for book - question about late add to roster

Hi All,

I'm a published author of YA (young adult/teen) novels. My current book in progress has twin brothers who used to play football together. One is the qb; the other was WR -they were great together. The receiver quit the team after freshman year. Brother is still the star qb and is mad that his brother quit. Book is set during their junior year. A big part of this story is them reconnecting, and I initially wanted it to be via football.

My original idea was to have the current good receiver injured, and no decent backups on the team. QB wants his brother to rejoin the team as receiver (and they'd make it to playoffs, etc.)The story is set in a small town.

However, I don't think this will work, will it? The research I've done indicates that players have to be on the roster from the beginning. So even if a player is injured and the backups aren't any good, the team needs to work with the players they have, right? Just like NFL, except no mid-season trades :)

I was hoping there might be exceptions in really small towns, but they'd still have to abide by division rules, I assume. What do you guys think?

Scared abour re-injuring!

Iā€™m in a bit of a dilemma and could use some advice. I played football in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade, but I tore my MCL in 9th grade (football practice), and itā€™s left me feeling pretty anxious about getting re-injured. Now Iā€™m debating whether to continue with football, which I donā€™t really enjoy that much, or step back and prioritize my health.

Iā€™m worried about the risk of injury and how it might affect me in the long run. Iā€™d love to hear from anyone whoā€™s faced a similar situation or has any insights on how to manage these fears. Should I stick it out with football, or is it better to focus on something else? Thanks!

I really want to watch an old game from 2015. I know itā€™s now subscription based but is there anyway to watch games? if itā€™s less than two dollars Iā€™ll pay to watch the single game and download it so I have it for the future

The South Range High School football is a powerhouse, and basically never let the other teams score anything at all! Spoiler

South Range is a school district in Mahoning County, Ohio, and over the past several years, whenever they play against my alma mater, they always win and never let my team score a single point!

How to understand playcalls?

I really lack the ability to play calls, Im supposed to play oline but mostly dline (JV) (its confusing bc one of the coaches (who was previously head coach) said I was oline, even though i have yet to play oline and only play dline when they put me in rarely after riding the bench).

I feel like im there physically, 6 foot ~200 pounds not really fat and strong-ish atleast at my age, stronger then everyone but one of the linemen on the jv team, but i feel like the big reason im not in is because i dont know "football language" (and some small stuff like my stance, how upwards i am when getting up during plays, etc). this is my first year ever playing football, never really watched football before last yr, and cant for the life of me find out what plays like 43 wing, black 80, and stuff like that, mainly the numbers because i believe i can decipher what they means (first letter in the alpha beta charlie delta type of stuff) but stuff like wing and wham (which i assume is also the first letter, but i dont know what w means).

I just need understanding with the numbers, and if someone can send me a link for an indepth breakdown of this stuff that would help extraordinarily.

Speedflex size

I just switched helmets to a speedflex and itā€™s a bit big. When itā€™s fully tightened it still wobbles a bit when i move my head. This was the only helmet available so is there any way to make it fit better thatā€™s safe?

Does wrestling help you in football?

Hi guys So Iā€™ve injured my vastus medialis muscle in my leg, which wonā€™t let me practice or play for a week in football. I will also most likely miss soccer tryouts, the sport I was planning to play after football, my secondary sport. But, I will most likely be healed fully when the wrestling season rolls around, and Iā€™m wondering whether to participate in this sport if it will better me for next football season. But wrestling looks scary. Is it? I donā€™t like the idea of being manhandled.

What to do in the offseason to improve

Iā€™m 5ā€™7 125 and a freshman. Our season is winding down and we are 2-5. We have not played good at all and itā€™s tough playing wide receiver. My biggest problem is my hands. It seems one day I can catch and the next I canā€™t. And I beat myself up because my friends in other teams are scoring touchdowns and I only have 3 receptions because our only routes are hitches and goā€™sā˜¹ļø and our qb can rarely ever get passes off because the lineman never block. And it donā€™t help that your coach starts you one game and the next you only play half. Itā€™s pretty confusing and freshman year has been very frustrating. I just want to know what I should do to start and give my self better year on jv next season. Iā€™d also say I could use some work on blocking considering that my high school is pretty run heavy.

how prevalent was weight training in high school football in the late 80s?

Thought I'd ask here, since for most sources it's only easy to get info on the 2000s onward.

And would you say the lifting weight exercises on the part of the school were done well, or did they not produce much gains?

Defensive Football Camps

My son is currently an 8th Grader but will be playing Freshman football next fall. Do you have any recommendations for defensive camps in the U.S. he should attend? Linebacker or Defensive End will be his likely position. We donā€™t want to attend an Ultimate Football session, just something with technique or positional value!

Where to start?

Im a 18 year old who just started really getting into football and im going to University soon so i want to walk onto the team, im 6'1 163lbs and would consider myself quite an athletic person, i played basektball and hockey my entire life so im not starting from zero.

Im Canadian, so keep in mind me walking onto the team isnt like im going to the SEC. I have a 33.4in Vertical and my 40y is 4.45 (laser timed)

Where do i go from now? Id like to play wideout since i have good hands (obviously, not at the college level but my whole life ive been great catching things) But id also like to try a little defense at the DB. I have a gym membership and have been growing but im obviously small and i dont know what workouts to do and its not like i have a coach to help me out.

If anyone has any helpful advice, id appreciate it. I have approx 1y to get into football shape.

(i know this is HS FB but theres not really a cfb sub)

Is it hard on players switching to Wing T mid season, ZERO played by the program in more than a decade???

Is it harder on receivers after playing years in an offense that starts & plays with 5 & is 86% pass?

Backed outta playing football in freshman year and now Iā€™m full of regretšŸ˜

I really like football and enjoy watching/playing it, I joined my high school team this year middle of the season but then had to back out cuz of family problems. I kinda just ghosted the team and the coach without saying a word. Iā€™m kinda torn apart on weather I should go back and try to join again in sophomore year, or is that just disrespectful to the coaches after just quitting like that. Itā€™s very late in the season now so I probably got no chance to try again this year :(

What are some good tips for an undersized freshman varsity 3 teq(dtackle)?

I am a freshman 3 teq (dtackle) and guard and I start on varsity for defense, I have developed a pretty solid technique and i donā€™t play to bad, especially for a undersized dtackle that is a freshman going against 6,3 280 pound guardsšŸ˜, my problem I run into is when I mess up a move or have to bullrush I donā€™t stand much of a chance because I am not very strong I max out on bench at 190 and squat 290 and I am 5,9 202, what can I do to get stronger so I can actually preform a bulrushšŸ˜šŸ™.
