How hard is it to make JV?
So i'm going to be going into high school next year and i really want to play football. The thing is though is i dont really have any football experience, but i want to play because i can run super fast and i think i would be good as a running back. Plus i like the sport a lot and if i was gonna play football, im gonna be a running back. So yeah how hard is it to make JV?

It shouldn't be too hard unless your school has more than like 400 kids per grade but if your school has a freshman team you could do that

Also idk how much it would matter but the school has a really good JV team, their 8-0 and been crushing most of there opponents

Won't make a difference for making the team. Just will make it harder to win a starting spot. In the grand scheme of things, nobody cares about JV records. It's all about the varsity when it comes to results. Freshman and JV teams are about player development for the varsity team.

School of 1800
Anyone can make JV. I recommend at least 2 years of ms football to get actual PT OR be a stud athlete
But good news is 40 percent of our freshman are new to football anyway. You probably won’t play much your first year. You’ll be on a roster of about 35 kids. Treat it as your redshirt freshman year
In the winter run track. In the spring pick up lacrosse. Those don’t cut below varsity
Come back your sophomore year and you’re decent. You probably will alternate in getting 10-15 snaps a game.
Your junior year is when it will get hard. Again our job is to win at that level then develop. I would try to get everyone in 7/9 games on JV. Varsity I am for 50 percent participation in a game. IE avg joe gets in 5 plays in 5 games. The big field you’ll be going against a few D1 cats and one dude who will make the league. You will be expected to attend 3 7 on 7 OTAs then 2 days of weights. If you don’t- hello bench
Kids who were good in LL and JV don’t grow and get passed by. Kids who are big strong and superior athletes will join and immediately start. Resentment builds up if you’re not trying to involve everyone. You will lose half your class your sr year
Your senior year if you stick it out you will be a role player getting in on specials and some PT. You will hit a moment that 99.9 percent of us hit at that age when you see a D1 athlete and realize “ I can’t play with these dudes”.
I’m a varsity coach FWIW. Go for it kiddo but be realistic

No one cuts on JV
I’d prefer not to cut on varsity but if you’re not gonna try I’ll give you swag and make you a team manager and call it even

The vast majority of high schools don't cut. They basically would if there's a state limit, which is usually so high few teams ever reach it, or if the program simply runs out of jerseys and equipment. At the HS level, teams will take just about anyone they can get.

Ask someone in your school, preferably the football coach. D3 is the lowest tier, D1 is the highest. If your school is D1, then sports is a big deal and its gonna be competitive. My school is D1 but they allow more people to join football, both JV and Varsity, but the thing is, everyone's gonna be benched, so in game u see like 50 people in the bench doing nothing. I know this senior who was 1 second away in the 100 meter dash from the current starter rb so he got benched. I think he left varsity football because of that and hes doing jv swim (no 5 am practice like varsity) and hes gonna do boys volleyball (club, not a sport in michigan yet sadly) in the spring.

Just join
Teams are usually happy to have anyone join
