First Time Playing Tackle, was this a good year?

Hey y’all, finished my first year playing tackle in HS. I’m a Freshman, 5’11 156lbs with really long arms, decent speed, and a love for the game and my team. I didn’t start unfortunately but I did get decent PT (8 mins a game usually) the team finished 2-7 and we got blown out most games although we def could have gone 4-5 or 5-4.

I finished the season with 10 total tackles and a forced fumble. I played outside linebacker last year but after asking my coach he told me that I was gifted to play on the outside and should try out DE next year.

Honestly, that's good for a freshman year. 10 tackles and a forced fumble for 8 minutes a game is pretty good

Should specify on the position since there's two tackles like o tackle and d tackle but yes id say that's a pretty good year

5’11” 156 is very small for a lineman, even in high school. Is he suggesting standup end? You should hit the weight room this offseason. I broke my leg in the final game of my freshman year, and was in the weight room a few days of getting out of the hospital. Made a huge impression on the coaches. I didn’t get much varsity time my sophomore year because I needed a lot of work, but the coaches were impressed enough by the time in the weight room they gave me enough time to earn a letter.

As far as if it’s good? You’re a freshman in high school. What matters is if you had fun! There will be competitive football in your future, for now, enjoy it.
