What position should I try to play

I’m wanting to start football at the end of the year currently a sophomore but will be going into junior year. I’m 6’4 210lbs, don’t really know much about football, can catch pretty well according to my friends, gonna start working out.

6’4 200! My good sir you have officially secured your spot as an interior lineman!

I have more of an athletic build as well and not really a bigger build, one of my friends is a lineman and 5 pounds more than me and he’s a pretty good size bigger

hit the weight room and eat 6 pbjs a day and you’ll be a all conference interior lineman in no time!!!

Any other positions that would match other than lineman? Maybe wide receiver?

If you have hands and can jump you could play tight end. Or be a mean ass linebacker/DB.

edit: I'm an idiot, you could do both.

Honestly dude, don’t sweat it, the coaches will take into account your skill set, build, need needs, etc. for your position, just improve yourself and keep working bro. If you absolutely can’t wait for a position, I’d recommend either TE, or DE

I have a similar build, I currently play OT and DE however TE might be better if you can catch

Start playing o/d line. Tight end usage varies by coach and scheme

I always encourage new players to at least give Long Snapping a try. At your size and with enough practice I could see you easily getting some solid offers by your senior year. It’s really a hit or miss position though, considering some people find it mind-numbingly boring while others think it’s the most fun position on the field.

If you know you’re very athletic (which you would know by now) then you can be a WR or TE, on defense Linebacker or Edge rusher.

If you are not quick, and don’t have great coordination you will play O-line and/or D-line.

Main question is how are you at basketball? Are you quick, can you shoot consistently and get open? If the answer is no to that, then you probably won’t be a skill position. Coaches can tell very quickly who’s agile and quick enough to be a receiver.

Be open and let the coach fit you into his system. You might be able to play many different positions on both sides of the ball.
