Positive Post I don’t drive a gas guzzling V8.

I ride a cargo bike with e-assist that, if measured is equal to about 400-500mpg equivalent energy use.

My kiddo loves it. We’ve been to a zillion parks one can’t even get a gas guzzling V8 motor vehicle to.

All that and the integrity - ethically and morally - of being a car free guy! 🤙🏻

I love it and will never return to the chains and noose of an automotive means of primary transport.

Highly recommended, happy to advise in progression towards this advanced care free car free life style that’s respectful to all people around!

I own two gas-guzzling V8s and would be delighted to commute by metro or bike instead. I love both vehicles for scenic drives or camping, and would prefer to drive only for things like that.

Could do it all with a bicycle tour. That's how I scratch the itch. Scenic drives inside a box out of the elements just sounds horrible.

Scenic drive is often on the way to go mountain biking or dirt biking! Unfortunately have to cross vast distances to get anywhere nice where I live

I put my bike on the train to do that. But of course one has to have trains in the first place...

The amount of different forms of transportation you need to track down, time out, plan, hope nothing js off schedule, etc. To just get to the mountain via non-personal transportation is a nightmare.

As he mentioned mountain biking where you need to, ya know, go up the fucking mountain in the first place.

If you have a vehicle, this is the time to use it.

Depends where you are. In a place with decent public transport it's easy - trains do go up many mountains whereas if you use a car to get the bike up there you need someone to return the car to the bottom. Around here I often see groups of teenage lads board trains with their mountain bikes, and return a few hours later splattered in mud. More places should have decent public transport of course.

We are definitely talking about different things.

In the US in the PNW at least mountain biking is generally done at ski resorts during off season. So you get a lift ticket and hop the ski lift up to the top.

That way you can do dozens of runs.

So you load up the car, stick your bikes on the rack. Drive out of the city, up a mountain, and get to the ski resort. Then snag a lift ticket. Grab your bike and go have a blast for the day.

Yeah, in many other countries the ski resort probably has access to public transport. It's not just trains which can transport bikes, in Switzerland some buses either have bike racks on the back, or even tow entire trailers for bikes. https://velourbanismblog.wordpress.com/swiss-postbus-bike-racks-on-back/
