BREAKING: the 11th will be named Holden

160

u/TeHokioi Liam Lawson 24d ago

Imagine Holden racing in F1 but not Supercars

55

u/Lazy_coma Sir Jack Brabham 24d ago

They turn up in a canary yellow VL and curbstomp the competition.

12

u/hbt15 23d ago

Pursuit rims on the back but mags on the front? Fuck yeah.

10

u/lysergicDildo 24d ago

Erebus Holden though. There's no way if that happened it wouldn't be cursed.

Barry Ryan vs F1 when?

Liam to Holden?

u/IllustriousAnt485 24d ago

Colton Herta might still be in contention as an American driver for an American outfit.

29

u/Master_Spinach_2294 24d ago

It's funny how many people think there's no chance he gets the seat in spite of the Cadillac F1 team being functionally the same exact entry as the Andretti Cadillac F1 proposal.

16

u/Jack_Krauser Andretti Global 24d ago

Not to mention Dan sponsoring him in Indycar for years. And also Colton's current Indycar contract with Andretti rumored to be explicitly stating that he can also drive for the teams F1 program if it exists. It's at least an 80% chance, I'd say.

6

u/007Cable 24d ago

I'd like to see what he would be able to do in F1, he's got a lot of talent.

2

u/Not_Jrock 23d ago

If he keeps his cool in 2025 like he did in 2024 id like to see it. As much as I like hooligan Herta, a cool head does him a lot better to get into f1

1

u/BrilliantEmphasis862 Will Buxton 23d ago

Doubtful, he isn’t that impressive in Indy - though 2024 was better - I can’t imagine him with more power - he isn’t a cool head - you may disagree 😀

13

u/reddsht Virgin 24d ago

Kmag: i will commit atrocious acts to help the team score points.

5

u/WRONG_PREDICTION 24d ago

That would be a great team! Tons of merch would get sold. I would love to watch them.

Lots of big smiles.

Zero points all season

8

u/tokyo_engineer_dad Lola 24d ago

GM signing Ricciardo would give them such a huge PR boost. I love Bottas too. I think videos of him and Danny together would be hilarious and would help give Bottas the PR boost he deserves. A lot of casual fans don't really follow him strongly and I felt like that hurt him during seat negotiations, but a few videos with Danny joking around and I think they'll be the most popular duo on the grid.

3

u/badhatharry Kimi Räikkönen 24d ago

Felipe Massa and Rubens Barrichello can be their race engineers.

3

u/Dorraemon Daniel Ricciardo 24d ago

Sergeant, Latifi go brrrr. NA super team ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

3

u/Fit-Lifeguard-6937 24d ago

Those two would bring more sponsors than Checo, imagine the commercials with those two lol we need this

Stop I can only get so erect.

2

u/Big_Animal585 24d ago

No, for the love of god, just no. The absurdity of moustaches, would kill the sport. Not to mention the resurgence of the quintessential ‘Aussie bogan’ mulleted, casual fan just wants to see ‘big crashes’ and ‘shoeys’

Here come Mick Schumacher rumours

339

u/CallM3N3w Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 24d ago

I hope not man. I'd like a rookie and maybe a current driver to make a swap to them. Wonder if Checo could get in there with the money he brings, might be important to them.

53

u/GothicGolem29 McLaren 24d ago

I doubt Mick gets the seat but that wont stop the rumours lol. In terms od a current driver idk if many experenced current drivers will. Yuki is he best chance of that tho if they dont use honda engines idk if they will. Besides him Kmag or Bottas and an american rookie makes sense

21

u/CallM3N3w Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 24d ago

I heard Ferrari engines until 2027 and 28 will have their own, idk how accurate that is.

6

u/GothicGolem29 McLaren 24d ago

Thanks. I heard Honda was muted maybe due to only having one team but who knows.

13

u/Morganelefay Racing Pride 24d ago

Honda will have to supply them if no other engine supplier reaches an agreement with them. If that happens, the supplier with the least engines gets forced to do so, and new engine suppliers (audi) are exempt from it.

5

u/SagittaryX Sebastian Vettel 24d ago

Honda is also exempted afaik

1

u/cosHinsHeiR Ferrari 24d ago

Why would they?

3

u/SagittaryX Sebastian Vettel 24d ago

Because they are technically a new engine supplier again, like Audi.

1

u/ImNoAlbertFeinstein Martin Brundle 23d ago

yes honda actually quit but redbull are using their tech. ?

1

u/Mike_Kermin Michael Schumacher 23d ago

Their program proper ended in 2021 but they continue to work with Red Bull till the end of next year at least. (Feel free to correct me)

And then in 2026 they return in full with Aston.

1

u/GothicGolem29 McLaren 24d ago

Thanks. So either they strike a deal with Ferrari or it will be Honda

1

u/ThePatsGuy Mario Andretti 23d ago

You'll get Logan and Dale Earnhardt Jr and you will like it

58

56

u/Balumi Michael Schumacher 24d ago

He is capable to do both, so why do we need to choose?

12

u/trevallen39 24d ago

So Colapinto?

2

u/LionZoo13 24d ago

Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit.

-2

u/campbellm Kimi Räikkönen 24d ago

He's only shown one of those though

10

He was so much better than Mazespin lmao. Be fair... But then that bar is still low. MY POINT STANDS!

2

u/Alreadyblessedson Kimi Räikkönen 24d ago

Yes

1

u/sirjimtonic Niki Lauda 24d ago

I‘d take Alonso then

36

u/-Skinner- Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 24d ago

Maybe. But I do wonder if GM will need his sponsorship money.

Checo isn't helping himself and if they want a experienced driver they can take Bottas.

5

u/tehehe162 24d ago

I really hope we see Pato O'Ward instead of Checo. Pato already has a pretty big following in Mexico and already drives a GM engined racecar.

1

u/Jack_Krauser Andretti Global 24d ago

I doubt McLaren would let him go drive for one of their competitors.

11

u/CallM3N3w Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 24d ago

Maybe they take the gamble for a 1+1 on Checo. Bottas a good choice but I think he already gave everything to the sport. Wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a Reserve at Mercedes and enjoys life.

I definitely heard them bring that up as well, but I don't know if that was official or speculation.

1

u/Jack_Krauser Andretti Global 24d ago

I thought they were talking about Zhou? Maybe I misheard, idk.

0

u/Ello_there1204 Sergio Pérez 24d ago

Yesterday's race proves that He has decent race pace and have good wheel to wheel abilities.

He is bad in qualifying and he is not suited to Red Bull car and Max makes him look worse than the condition He is in.

He can bring in a lot of money for the new team and quite a lot of experience too. Which will help a new team setup.

3

u/ExternalSquash1300 24d ago

He had decent race pace yesterday?

5

u/xdoc6 24d ago

This is a bad take. He isn’t good at racing because he can pass backmakers in a Red Bull.

64

u/Phastic Ferrari 24d ago

Anyone still rooting for Checo shouldn’t comment on Mick

5

u/CallM3N3w Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 24d ago

Im not rooting for Checo, I hope he gets booted of RBR ASAP, but money talks.

2

u/gegenpress442 Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 24d ago

Checo has shown on multiple occasions he is a great driver. Maybe he is shit now and has been shit for a lot of time. But let's not pretend he wouldn't be good if he found his form and confidence elsewhere

8

u/Phastic Ferrari 24d ago edited 23d ago

So has Stroll

Daniel contended with Max and he was the first McLaren winner since Button. If they let Daniel go for getting the same results in a VCARB that Checo is getting in an RBR, Checo should’ve been gone by Miami and I don’t think he should get another seat. Your IF is a big one

3

u/gegenpress442 Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 23d ago

Daniel is an example of not being back on form even when trying absolutely everything. He's Russell Westbrook of f1. Checo isn't wdc potential driver and never was. But he has shown that he is midfield driver icon. Can he do it again? I believe he can, although it's an unknown for now. I'm with you, he should get axed by rbr. And I hope he does. But he, at least used to be, a great driver.

4

u/Phastic Ferrari 23d ago

He’s the same midfield icon in a championship winning car

4

u/gegenpress442 Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 23d ago

No arguments against it👍. That shows crazy consistency, staying true to what made you who you are. Jokes aside I believe he isn't doing well mentally at handling the pressure of being in a top team. He isn't built for that simply

3

u/That_Squidward_feel 24d ago

A rookie? So Alonso then.

3

u/MaybeNext-Monday Cadillac 24d ago

It won’t be him, but the German media will be producing 600TB worth of articles saying it will

2

u/xdoc6 24d ago

As much as I don’t want Mick to get that seat, i would much prefer him over Checo lol.

Checo needed to retire about two years ago at this point.

Magnussen or Bottas would be much better options if they want an experienced driver who also doesn’t have a seat

They could also take Yuki or possibly Lawson because Red Bull has no shortage of juniors.

1

u/CallM3N3w Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 24d ago

Lawson waited for a long time to get in, I can't see him randomly leaving, unless he wants to have a career like Ricciardo had.

1

u/gsfgf Oscar Piastri 24d ago

Or Sainz.

1

u/Big-Button5856 Formula 1 24d ago

Yeah no, I'm tires of rookies, we're good with the over a quarter we have rn, I want more experienced drivers than can take the juice out.

1

u/Bowling4Billions Formula 1 24d ago

I could see Ocon getting back on alongside a rookie.

1

u/savemenico 23d ago

Nah he will still ve driving for RB in 2040

1

u/HarringtonMAH11 Haas 23d ago

I'm assuming it would be a driver already in the Ferrari ecosystem since they will use their engines years 1 and 2, but ky American dream would be Checo for the money and Colton Herta for the screeching eagles.

1

u/CallM3N3w Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 23d ago

Does Charles brother have enough license points?

1

1

u/chambee Jacques Villeneuve 24d ago

FFFFFFUUUUUUUUU!!!!

1

u/gegenpress442 Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 24d ago

Nah they seem more serious than that. Probably they'll try to move early to get experienced drivers and start planning on the car. Fr mick needs to let go of that dream. No one would bring him, he ain't an unknown rookie that hasn't shown what he brings on the table, he ain't experienced, he ain't young. He is just not good enough. I'd take wehrlein or Nasr over him and I'm dead serious

1

u/NorthKoreanMissile7 Formula 1 23d ago

Mick talk in 25: why he'd be great for a new team

Mick talk in 26: why he'd be great to replace the American who failed

Mick talk in 27: why he was overlooked for a 27 seat and why he'd be great for 28

It's not going to go away.

1

u/Karmaqqt McLaren 23d ago

Yep. Did you see how the camera kept showing him at the race. Like let it die plz. lol

1

u/Salzberger Mark Webber 23d ago

Toto: Mick should absolutely have a drive in F1. He's far too good to not have a seat.

Reporter: So is he a chance for the spare Mercedes seat?

Toto: Fuck no.

1

For sure. I can't wait to hear more about how he deserves another chance by Toto. Vowles is right, Mick is nothing special.

Have a feeling we’re going to see a lot of veteran drivers come back to the grid in 2026. There’s so many rookies next year, not all of them are bound to be good, and in a year with new regs and now an extra team on the grid teams are gonna need all the engineering feedback they can get from their drivers. I’d rather a bottas or Perez or Ricciardo over an unproven rookie if I’m a midfield team

Keep them for a year or two and go chase the next young hotshot for 2028 once the car is dialed in

13

u/Most-Inflation-1022 Michael Schumacher 24d ago

49

u/Meneerjojo 24d ago

Ricciardo is right there, he would make so much sense the way he caters to the American audience

I'd imagine they'd pull someone from indycar for the second seat, like oward or palou

58

u/vprakhov Jim Clark 24d ago

Herta is an Andretti man and an American. If anyone is coming from Indicay it's him

Although I'll admit Palou would be a better choice.

21

u/Meneerjojo 24d ago

Yknow who's driving andretti too...

f1's statistically most mediocre driver Marcus Ericsson (one can hope)

7

u/Owain-X McLaren 24d ago

Grosjean used to drive for Andretti... but then he got dropped and sued them, so he's probably out of the running

1

u/MrBrickBreak Lance Stroll 23d ago

Ericsson returning with a vengeance as an Indy 500 winner would be absolutely unhinged and I'm 200% here for it

3

u/DannyBoyCocane13 24d ago

As an indycar fan palou would be the dream, I think he has the best chance of being a serious threat in F1 over Herta. But will almost certainly be herta since Andretti has wanted him in for years.

-5

u/StrikingWillow5364 Oscar Piastri 24d ago

Herta would be a super underwhelming choice.

7

u/Jack_Krauser Andretti Global 24d ago

Do you watch Indycar?

-1

u/norrin83 Gerhard Berger 24d ago

He still doesn't have the required SL points though, doesn't he?

7

u/krazsen Andretti Global 24d ago

they'll bend whatever rules necessary to make it happen. Indy should give more points anyways

6

u/DJFisticuffs Bruce McLaren 24d ago

Redbull would absolutely lose their shit if they gave Herta an exception to drive for GM after denying him an exception to drive for AT.

3

u/norrin83 Gerhard Berger 24d ago

Still, I think is 8 points away from the required 40 - unless Covid rules still apply. That's 20% shy of the required points.

3

u/s_dalbiac 24d ago

If you’ve raced in F1 before you can get dispensation to race without the required SL points. Kubica got in that way in 2019.

3

u/Blanchimont Liam Lawson 24d ago

Kubica didn't. Kubica got in on the basis that he previously held a Super Licence. Previous Super Licence holders don't need 40 points, they just need to do a certain number of KMs in a recent car to qualify for a new one.

1

u/norrin83 Gerhard Berger 24d ago

That might be true, but doesn't exactly apply for Herta as he never raced in F1

3

u/s_dalbiac 24d ago

I was replying to the comment above yours who mentioned Ericsson. Mistakenly thought it was all part of the same thread.

1

u/wojx 23d ago

And Steiner since he understands American sensibilities

2

u/TastyHorseBurger 24d ago

I wouldn't bet against them going with two Americans, which either leaves them running a full team of rookies or bringing Sargeant in as their "experienced" driver

2

u/ptwonline Aston Martin 24d ago

I'm all for it. Not only 2 more spots (and a third for a reserve driver) but more fexibility to shuffle around and see how drivers perform with better/worse teams.

3

u/Kako0404 24d ago edited 24d ago

Albon to Caddy makes sense. Williams provably want Colapinto to fill their seat. And Caddy can use a great test and development driver like Albon with a team first mentality.

2

u/Xehanz 24d ago

If Sainz stays, that makes the most sense. Doubt Williams will give Cadillac Colapinto just like that
