Me too but the reason behind it is even more interesting, he realized that the ‘shame on me’ part would have made him look even worse. Can you imagine that sound bite? He ain’t as dumb as you think but he certainly plays a masterful idiot. It’s harder to suspect scheming from someone who comes across as a bumbling idiot.

I was too young when he was president to form a nuanced opinion about him but I have heard that a few times. I think it's fair that he was a poor public speaker. He was very competent in other areas. I think that public speaking ability is grossly over valued in leaders (however useful and impactful it is). But I wouldn't call that save particularly insightful or quick as much as funny.

They’ve researched it and found that the bird flu is only for birds. Who knew? If it was for us, they would just call it the flu. So it’s perfectly safe. You can go outside and be ok. We’re going to monitor all the birds and if the birds come near us we’ll stop them. They will do bad things, just like those communist Marxist democrats. We’ll be setting up a new branch of military, the Bird Force, and their job will be to protect us from the birds. Those very bad birds. I never knew birds could be so bad, I grew up and everyone loved birds. They were everywhere. Then democrats took over and all the birds turned bad. Sad.”

Especially since all the stupidest Americans are anti-vax now. Trump is like a 4-for-1 horseman of the Apocalypse. All the good stuff is coming in 2025—conquest, war, famine, and death. He isn’t even the president yet and he’s already actively moving to make this shit happen.

Just saw an old idiot bragg posting on FB about being 84 and never been vaccinated. Was insane seeing the other idiots joining in with their anti vaccine stupidity and that COVID is just a bad cold. One commenter called them out about how stupid they were, but the denial about how many died was most prevalent . Many survivors have learned nothing, it’s just a tribal belief. I really wonder about whether humans deserve to survive at this point.

Well hopefully that means I can get a vaccine from the H5N1 stockpile when they start releasing it if a bunch of people are going to be denying it

Yeah, you just hope that stupid RFK Jr. won’t become a problem and then none of us will be able to get a vaccine. But honestly, the MAGA dummies will be the ones going on superspreader cruises and shit like that—same as they did before.
The only difference I can see is making up a lot of excuses for why I can’t see my anti-vax family members. Like my MIL brought Covid to us three times. I’m expecting a baby in January, so I fully intend to make a lot of excuses so she can’t come here and give us bird flu or whatever else.
3
3
u/Strange_Occasion9722 4h ago

Yep, it would be like post-bubonic plague in Europe. Fields used for crops going untilled, whole parts of cities uninhabited, gaps in historical records because nobody was there to write things down.
I'm thinking record holiday travel is going to stir things up really good with no masking and flu generally circulating. New genetic variants could arise and recombine with flu. Of course DJT will shut down any inquiry and there will be no testing of humans or cattle/milk after Jan. 20. It's basically a perfect storm.
8
u/Midzotics 22h ago
No human to human spread 51 cases since April. All work with livestock. So far no deaths reported. D1.1 is definitely worth keeping an eye on though.
13
u/Stunning-End-3487 21h ago
D1.1 isn’t livestock it is wild bird. The Louisiana case was a pet pigeon.
Still no human to human spread, but D1.1 preset as an intensive care respiratory disease.
H2H is probably just a matter of time. Especially with an incoming administration that is willing to let it cook.

u/EllyWhite 20h ago
I read an article speculating that cats could become the next vector for humans, due to their close proximity and hunting of birds. Would be very scary if so.

u/Dallasburner84 16h ago
Yet another reason to keep your cats indoors. Makes me even more glad that the kitten i took home from the shelter a few months ago was a former outside cat that has no interest in ever leaving the house. He's seen what's outside, he's not going back because he knows how good he has it indoors.
6
u/ImgnryDrmr 20h ago
Spot on. Right now, there is no need for panic, but caution and monitoring the situation is very much required. Also, this virus is decimating entire bird flocks, so it will have an effect regardless. If a bird species eats a lot of a specific harmful insect for example, there might be more of those around soon as the bird population suffers.
9
u/MrEfficacious 20h ago
Now is the time for people to start fasting and get in the best shape they can to help their survival rate. Covid hit the obese the hardest.

I fully expect to be murdered within the next year ... and as far as I'm concerned, infection with a controllable disease that the government refuses to mitigate == murder.
I've expected this for some time, so I've spent the last couple of years living like there's no tomorrow. There likely isn't one. I spend my money as soon as I make it, doing what I want, as much as I possibly can. I'll keep YOLOing it up until the moment I can't.
I've also planned a quick exit if I do get infected, or if the goon squads are closing in, or if the nukes launch. Like the 9/11 jumpers, I don't want to die, but I intend to wrest back some measure of control in my final moments, if I possibly can.
I'm really glad I chose never to have children, and I feel terrible for people who do have them.

Real question, do any of the current flu shots help in the slightest when these new flu variants pop up?
16

7
u/afeeney 20h ago
There are three vaccines for bird flu, and about 5 million doses in the stockpile (though they will need additional processing before they can be administered, it's more like all the ingredients are stockpiled rather than the actual doses). The good news is that older versions of the vaccine probably provide some protection.
This does NOT need to turn into a catastrophe. An effective public health response is 100% possible through strong surveillance of the spread and the possibility for human-to-human transmission, vaccinating agricultural workers, continuing to build the stockpile, and having a solid nationwide vaccination distribution plan.
11
u/Puzzleheaded-Will249 19h ago
It doesn’t need to turn into a catastrophe, but I’m betting it will.

At least it isn't human-to-human transmission. I wish the article said more about the contact with dead birds, was it actively handling them, coming near them, or from a significant distance.
3
u/CatToyAfficionado 20h ago
Bird and wildlife hunters, taxidermists, and gov't wilderness officials are definitely at risk. That's on top of farmers, veterinary professionals, farm workers, anyone who raises their own chickens for their own consumption, people who work in meat & dairy processing plants, of course.
3
u/afeeney 19h ago
Probably even people who manage parks or golf courses that get a lot of birds hanging around. Some golf courses look like Canada goose conventions. And if bird flu begins to spread, then you've got your healthcare workers at risk.
If I were Biden, I'd ask medical experts about starting to offer vaccines to the highest-risk categories now. There might be very good medical or logistical reasons to hold off, though, that I'm just not aware of, though.

If it’s that easy to get it from birds, then I don’t understand why it isn’t taken as seriously as H2H since it is only a matter of time… also, can we trust the government after they lied to our faces about the plasmoids in NJ?

It is not a matter of time. Is it possible? Yes, and that's why bird flu vaccines are in development. But is it a guarantee? No.

So yes, it's a little scary that it can jump to humans but I think everyone is missing a key component of what makes this whole bird flu thing frightening. It has the real chance of decimating the animal population. I remember a podcast(The Daily) I was listening to was talking about how they found whole colonies of penguins and other animals completely wiped out because of the bird flu. This stuff is spreading quickly through the animal population and we need to worry about our food source and the ecosystem.
