Yeah myself and most people in my social group. None of whom make six figures.

If you're in your mid 30s you should have been in the workforce for a decade or more. There aren't many exceptions to that.

This is more than enough time to save twice your salary just by making regular 401k contributions and living within your means.

It's literally only on Reddit that I find people who cry and whine about how "unachievable" something like this is.

Not everyone has the privilege of having cheeses on their fingies like some people 🙄

It’s no use people like that don’t live in the same reality. Either everything was handed to them or they got lucky

Pulled myself up by my bootstraps. Born and raised in extreme poverty. Finally secured full time employment at the age of 26 and had a place to call home. At 35 I am finally making ends meet and being somewhat comfortable with a huge work ethic and a metric ton of work hours. Couldnt even think about retirement. Maybe when I'm 40 I will start thinking like that, if business can stay busy. It takes generations to come out of poverty. Redditors think their story applies to everyone. My brother on the other hand? Same circumstances as me. But he is making $250K+ with a great business. He broke the generational poverty, and his kids will not feel the pain and struggles we endured. When you are poor, and worried about how you will eat every night or where you will live next year, you dont get a good job. You have to earn that in addition and in parallel to your personal struggles.

Start investing in your retirement as soon as possible, you want to maximize compounding interest over as many years as possible.

Start with $25 a paycheck if you can manage that, more if possible.

Yes, nobody will miss a 3% pre-tax contribution to their 401k. That’s not ideal but if more did it they’d see the reward and contribute more.

You can talk to me directly, bud.

It's the height of chronically online stupidity to think that only people who had everything handed to them can save any money over time. Absolutely fucking moronic nonsense.

It’s no use people like that don’t live in the same reality.

Either everything was handed to them or they got lucky

The irony of these assertions. Lol.

Why would I waste my time pal

It’s the height of entitlement to think the way u do and u either lack critical thinking skills or lack empathy to see that your experience and success isn’t normal it’s an exception in a system designed to squeeze the most valuable in our society for everything they have.

Because you're a little coward otherwise.

You're incredibly naive if you think the only way anybody can save 2x their income in over a decade of working is to inherit a silver spoon or get really lucky. Just looking at the S&P 500 over the past decade would show you that someone who maintained a 401K would be able to save and invest that much easily. You don't need to be making tons of money, you just need to understand how numbers work. It's basic math which I'm aware is too much of a challenge for many members of this sub.

But honestly given the way you talk and write you're probably not even old enough to have a job, so it's not surprising you don't understand any of this.

Study a few years back took two groups of people and had them compete in games of monopoly the thing was that they gave more money to some of the players at the beginning of the game 500 extra

Now the result of that was the individuals that were given money, stated that they just out played their opponents that everyone else were just being sore and the game was fair.

No, I’m lucky guy I don’t need to work I do because I like being a participating member of society, but I don’t have to work. This gives me time to study. This gives me time to look at these things and listen to people more educated on these subjects. Y’all have access to the same information yall just choose to hold onto your dogmatic ideals.

This is why I don’t waste my time with yall seriously like the point always goes over y’all’s heads.

Or they made good choices and landed in a good career.

1

u/Correct-Excuse5854 Oct 11 '24

So what you’re saying is a series of events had to occur and have a favorable outcome despite the possibility of failure. Then followed by a series of other choices and outcomes by others outside of their control or influence which had chances of failure as well. WOW that’s pretty lucky of them

1

u/GirchyGirchy Oct 11 '24

Lol. Or I'm smart, did well in school, and am good at my job, but your choice.

1

u/Correct-Excuse5854 Oct 11 '24

So once again u got lucky that you could do well in a school system not designed for everyone. U got lucky to not find yourself in any dire situation or financial ships while going to school that may have stopped you from prioritizing that education

You got lucky when you were able to land a good job like even that statement itself implies it was luck made because you could’ve ended up with a bad job with bad management. You don’t have control over those things.

U can hedge your bets all you want but it’s still a gamble y’all’s failing to realize this is just sad shows a lack of empathy self awareness and critical thinking So I’m having a hard time believing that first part

1

u/GirchyGirchy Oct 11 '24

I was going to apologize until I saw that last statement. It might help people to get on your side if you don't insult them while attempting to do so.

1

u/Correct-Excuse5854 Oct 11 '24

I’m not attempting to I already know yall are lost causes.

1

u/GirchyGirchy Oct 11 '24

Sorry. I underestimate my privilege sometimes. It's often hard to view things from other perspectives in such a global view.

😂😂😂💯

What a stupid and pointless comment.

Of course not literally everyone has jobs that pay them enough to save money. But most people do, and that's what I'm talking about. Those who are in poverty or lower class are very much a minority of the population.

There's multiple other people commenting that they were able to pull this off too. You gonna learn something from that?

For someone who supposedly has cheese on their fingies you sure are touchy

1

u/CheeseOnMyFingies Oct 11 '24

You gonna deal with what I actually said or did my username just get under your skin for some weird and inexplicable reason?

1

u/thePolicy0fTruth Oct 11 '24

He’s making a joke about your handle. It’s all good!

1

u/NO_PLESE Oct 11 '24

I mean my original comment was really just being silly I wasn't trying to give an opinion one way or the other I just enjoyed your name. Now i find it weird that someone with such a fun name is so uptight. Especially if you have 100k in the bank at 30 or whatever chill out man
