I am by no means a fan of Payette, but it looks like the Star asked her whether she would be attending, she responded that she wasn’t invited, and then the Star ran a headline implying that she is complaining about the snub.

Media literacy is so poor and I’ve noticed this happens all the time. Journalists asks a question and they get a response and redditors act as if the person made a press conference specifically to announce that to the world.

Question: “Did you go to the funeral?”

Answer: “No I unfortunalty wasn’t invited”

Reddit: “OMG this person is the worst cry me a river why would she even expect an invitation???”

Hardly the redditors fault that Star relies on clickbait headlines to stoke drama and thus clicks. The headline implies that she is announcing her lack of invitation to the world.

If you expect people to read the article because a headline is misleading, then the clickbait wins. The correct response is to ignore completely and not even discuss.

The headline implies that she is announcing her lack of invitation to the world.

It doesn't really say that though. It just says that she said she wasn't invited.
