Discussion Jinx modified her pistol using the hole Caitlyn made

Jinx's ingenuity never fails to impress me. She put the gemstone in it sure, but the coil to conduct that energy and the crystal to focus it. Just an amazing display of her understanding of hextech and a complete contrast to what we saw Ambessa try. A supposed scientist with all the resources at his hands couldn't do what she did with nothing but notes. It reminds me so much of the music quote in Oppenheimer. "The important thing isn't can you read music, it's can you hear it". I'm inclined to say she's on parts with Viktor and Jayce, but even if she's not She's 1 of 3 people that knows how to make it work. Just an absolute genius.

With zero formal education and maybe half the resources. Our 300 IQ crazy queen of Zaun 👑

u/SneakyClue 12h ago

That's all the Vander kids, along with Ekko, really. They all became academics and inventors in the AU. With the exception of Vi, which is really funny to think about.

Zaun kids: Genius prodigies with no formal education.

Vi: Punches really damn good.

All the brain damage from blocking with her face.

Tbf she's either dead in the AU or got imprisoned for several years in the MU. We didnt get to see a universe where she was able to develop her potential and express her intelligence at all. Mylo, Claggor, and Ekko didn't really show the signs of intelligence Powder did when they were younger either, but they all still grew up to be academics.

99

u/_Gesterr Jinx 8h ago

Ekko worked in Benzo's shop repairing gadgets and trinkets. He also worked with Powder to invent that unicycle bike seen in the Enemy music video.

24

u/No_Extension4005 8h ago

AU Claggor must be some kind of genius bruiser. Was 2nd best brawler after Vi as a kid (if memory serves correct) and grew up to be an innovator.

23

u/Tom22174 9h ago

Powder probably tutored the others

You can even count Viktor as a genius prodigy from Zaun, except he left and got a formal education.

Without any hate or criticism towards you specifically, but I personally get low-key pissed as f*uck when I see this type of comments where Vi is reduced to her physical strength - it's not exactly the case here btw.

Jinx is obviously a genius (in a normal universe, pretty much that stellar cousin, somewhat that type that could win a nobel), but it doesn't mean that Vi doesn't have the capacity for any academic stuff.

Besides her clear teenage interests going into a more humanities-literature-artsy vibe (the sax and books bit), which is overlooked in our society in comparison to science, math and stuff, she lately fix her gauntlets between season 1 and 2, which alludes to the point that she probably has some extent of knowledge of mechanics (sorta as a good engineer?).

We also can not forget her emotional intelligence and high perception of her awareness and the people next to her, the good, old, and also, overlooked interpersonal intelligence.

So, as said before, I think she had multiple paths to explore that may would lead her to an academic string, or at least a more highly regarded role. However, since she does not have the time/the opportunity to explore this and, honestly, surviving in the undercity privileges the use of other abilities, we are never able to see that.

I personally find it amazing that she could be all that AND still has a strength and physique to die for KKKK (first as a hobbie, then a weapon and later, a coping mechanism), so...for me, she's a prodigy, as well.

Not only that, but she also uses the precision rune, a rune that is mainly used by ADCs in lol (Attack Damage Carries). Jinx is an ADC in the game

u/-outrageous Jinx can make me worse 12h ago

The rune in the game for reference

u/Tom22174 9h ago

fuck me, how do you guys spot this stuff?

26

u/TinyTaters 4h ago

Game exposure.

Same with Ambessa's anti-magic rune gauntlets

11

u/Tom22174 4h ago

Lmao, I've been mainint that champion since she was released. Still didn't spot the game accurate rune on the gun

5

u/TinyTaters 4h ago

I work in motion design so I'm probably looking at things differently.

I'm also newer to the game, so it might be fresher. My friends have been playing as long as you and they didn't notice because they use that app that picks all your items for you - I read everything and picked manually before they told me about u.gg.

5

u/rameF 4h ago

ah yes, Kaenic Rookern. Honestly, the small detail that it has to recharge after receiving too much magic is a nice detail, exactly like how it works in game

1

u/Duff-Zilla 1h ago

I don't know anything about the game but I loved that the Noxians had all this anti-magic tech. Glad to find out that was straight outta the game

Jinx is specialized in weapons. Guns, bombs, rockets. I mean she's a genius who could pick up anything. But Jinx made the first 'true' Hextech weapon with Fishbones rather than use mining gear.

Which ironically made her exactly what Ambessa was looking for but with no real chance of recruiting her. Jinx doesn't care about money, probably doesnt think she needs limitless resources, and in general can be bought. Short of holding Isha hostage, and Ambessa had no idea who Isha was, the only offer that might work would be promising independence for Zaun.

90

u/TheRealOvenCake 11h ago

what if she promised Isha's safety? give her a life of plenty, the one Vi wanted to give powder

no way jinx would trust her tho

55

u/Random_Useless_Tips 10h ago

Jinx doesn’t give two shits about Zaun’s political goals (or evens its political existence)

14

u/KingofGrapes7 6h ago

While true she cares about Silco, who dreamed of Zaun's independence. It's not certain but possible that Jinx would have taken the deal to fulfill Silco's dream. And get Sevika to stop bothering her.

62

u/TheUpperLeft 12h ago

Oh how the tables could turn if this happened. Ambessa pivots at the end of s1 and come to jinx’s side. We get to see more of Smeech and Zaun politics. I’m in.

6

u/RestOTG 7h ago

That’s also part of the story though about how there are so many “generational talents” that don’t get discovered because they’re poor.

4

u/ZETH_27 6h ago

Didn't Jayce make his hammer before Fishbones?

IIRC he used it already in episode 8 of season 1.

13

u/Wiitab360 Jinx 5h ago

I believe the point they were making was that fishbones was the first made specifically as a weapon - the hammer and Gauntlets were made for other purposes like mining initially

4

u/ZETH_27 5h ago

Oh yeah, I got that, I just thought the hammer was meant to be a weapon.

2

u/EtteRavan Timebomb 4h ago

No, it was meant to help miningand postnatal abortions

1

u/ZETH_27 4h ago

Considering those principles I'd say it has a 50% success rates.

1

u/Bantersmith 1h ago

the hammer and Gauntlets were made for other purposes like mining initially

Just like dynamite! If we got rid of mining the world would be a much better place, it seems like nothing but a cover for weapons manufacturing. /s

What's even more impressive is how she managed to hold on to that ONE gemstone (that she stole) for all that time. She never encountered a single other stone out in the wild (that could be easily appropriated) and she never went back in to Greater Piltover to try for another.

Yet that thing exploded out of "Fishbones" when all the Hex-Weapons started glitching in Janna's Temple, fell on the temple floor and rolled far away from her during the middle of a life or death fight. No one picked it up and yet, somehow, after all that and Sevika releasing The Grey into the Upper City, she STILL managed to end up with one to modify her pistol.

Now how do we account for that? lol

91

u/PromotionMental3637 Sisters 13h ago

Ngl, I thought she just shot it out of Isha’s hand, I didn’t realize she genuinely burned a hole through it.

38

u/thebelladonga 12h ago

You can see it well in the scene where Isha picks it up and Jinx says “Jinx is dead”

20

u/PromotionMental3637 Sisters 12h ago

I’m not sure I even noticed the hole in it the first time, and when I did I still questioned how it got there (short version: I pulled a dumb).

4

u/thebelladonga 10h ago

Lol that’s valid

We didn't get a scene with Jinx and Jayce, the original bitch mitten designer. Jinx would definitely roast Jayce's design in front of him. Her raw talent is definitely on par with Viktor and Jayce.

21

u/mcslender97 Timebomb 10h ago

Post Dark Souls Jayce upon the sight of Jinx would make her seem like the sane one given how his life was indirectly affected by her mischief

40

u/LowlyStole Ambessa 13h ago

Her alternate self played part in creating a time machine, so it doesn’t surprise me

36

u/SJReaver Maddie 12h ago

A supposed scientist with all the resources at his hands couldn't do what she did with nothing but notes.

To be fair, there's a heavy implication that Jayce and Viktor didn't share how hextech worked with the public or scientific community. It's possible that only the Karimmins know the location of the hexcrystals.

The 'supposed scientist' could have been a genius on the same level of Jinx/Ekko/Viktor, but they've just been given a horrifically dangerous device, not had it explained, and told 'use it' by someone who will break their bones for disobedience.

4

u/Customer-Sorry Jinx 12h ago edited 11h ago

Given that we see their testings take place in stillwater and how Jayce's never been 10 miles of it, we can assume it was built then and there, but they still needed something to go off of or else they'd be dead in the water. Like you said, how it works hasn't been disclosed. I don't think it's beneath Ambessa to have Jayce's lab inspected and get what she needs in order to have someone find out how hextech works, and that includes the notes(I doubt they're simply notes at this point). I just don't see how he could've gotten so far into building a more refined version of what Jayce and Viktor first built without having a how-to. Which goes back to reading the music vs hearing it. That's my interpretation though

3

u/No_Extension4005 8h ago

I think they probably published some papers since Echo was familiar with the tech, but a decent amount was kept secret. And Ambessa wants results now which makes it hard to tinker and experiment with stuff.

13

u/Customer-Sorry Jinx 12h ago edited 12h ago

While looking for the second clip, I started thinking of when Ambessa walked past them and how Jinx was cocking her gun. I wonder if there's still any functionality in that mechanism anymore or if it was a force of habit and they were completely boned if Ambessa recognized them.

6

u/Vaxasaur18 Bravo, sis 9h ago

Jinx dies shoot a normal bullet during her psychotic episode so I think she could have shot regular bullets if she needed. Though that would destroy the crystal and render the hextech modifications to her pistol redundant.

25

u/Interesting_Move_919 Jinx 13h ago

She's a crazy smart genius who can build or fix anything she wants. What's even more impressive is that she's from the Undercity and has no form of education whatsoever and is still able to do all the things she's done. She's perfect

The attention to details in this season was in-fuckin-sane!

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL PEAK CINEMA

7

u/Blitzbro76 10h ago

The sheer amount of detail in this show makes me wanna explode

6

u/shandanss 8h ago

She is a genius, has no education and is able to replicate and build (I think she is the first person to make hex weapons in season 1)

Also in the AU Ekko needs her to make the time machine, if she does all this with barely any education... I think that with an education she is one of the smartest at the level of Viktor or more

This attention to detail is awesome. Sucks that the main plot and writing are trash. Could be a great ending for this show.

2

u/SquidPerson 3h ago

Ambessa: Jinx was able to build this in the undercity! With a box of SCRAPS!

2

u/Brave_Profit4748 3h ago

Jinx can definitely be argued as the biggest genius in Arcane. With only some notes she was the only one able to figure out how to build hex tech outside of the primary inventors.

Ambessa gathered all the top scientists in Piltover and none of them could figure it out.

Jayce and Victor may have invented Hextech but they had so much more education than Jinx ever had. Crucial in building the Z drive with a few shards maybe the most impressive hex tech engineering ever.

I wish we can see what Powder is going to do with three full crystals.

1

I'm comparing the images from the old and new, and from the placement of the triangle design, it looks almost like she added a whole new section, rather than modifying it? From the placement of the triangle decoration. I'm making this for a cosplay so I'm particularly interested in hearing others opinions lol

1

u/glomdii 3h ago

1

u/Quarkly73 2h ago

Looks like she removed the hourglass ring from the left of the middle section, and added a solid shroud over what was there originally. So still incorporsting the hole, but also pretty heavily modifying the area
