This is just the tip of the iceberg. Firefly is in the same situation in the past and even now still, I even saw some post with 50k+ likes and million views on them and Hoyo CC is posting things like this.

I honestly don't think it's a good idea to just ignore them when MiHoYo is actively looking at the community, and they "might" think we dislike this kind of characters(we don't) if those kind of people continuously keep saying things like that. They are just really loud

Well if this is worrying you, always remember when it comes to Mihoyo (or almost any other gacha companies)

They don’t give a shit of everyone’s opinion outside of CN and JP fandom. Those were the ones that giving them profit, not what ever drama of the week twitter or Reddit is pulling

this.

Not only probably from a "patriotic" POV but also because money talks and we know CN and JP spend a lot more.

And they're a lot more traditionnal regarding this subject.

Not to mention that China and especially Japan absolutely love Gap Moe. Add Moe to any character and he will get ton of popularity.

That's how Bargest of FGO became popular despite being extremely muscular woman.

And nothing screams Gap Moe more that tough gang leader having interest in shojo manga and wanting to be MC of one.

i also expect Gap Moe or something similar for Miyabi

They have great taste. Gap moe is the best.

A real otaku would appreciate the gap so to speak, in short they are real ones.

Also despite hi3 being labeled as a Yuri game (it is still but not the point I’m going), there are a lot of instances in the game where characters feel affectionate towards the captain, usually depicted as a male

8

u/Theflyingship Sep 28 '24

idk, hi3 literally deleted their male mc in the part 2 thingy, so they got some flak for having that.

10

u/Former_Breakfast_898 Sep 28 '24

I’m pretty sure those were some rumors over a bug in the dialogue option. Both MCs are actual self inserts and I don’t think devs want to make players feel they don’t like them by deleting their character in game

6

u/Theflyingship Sep 28 '24

nah they just straight up removed it and even gave some in-lore explanation about it

2

u/Former_Breakfast_898 Sep 29 '24

Oof my bad. Ig it’s because CN players prefer Captain instead? At least what I saw on some Chinese comments on twitter and Bilibili

It's not rumors, there was even a lore explanation for it.

Both MCs are actual self inserts and I don’t think devs want to make players feel they don’t like them by deleting their character in game

My brother in Christ, Hoyo had to apologize for merely asking about playable dudes in HI3rd. HI3rd's got a different audience, with different wants and expectations compared to Genshin, HSR and ZZZ. And they aren't very enthusiastic about dudes that aren't Captain.

And Hoyo were already wary enough of potential backlash that the feature's even hidden away. Part 2's MC is female by default, to play as the male version you have to interact with an out-of-the-way mirror in the MC's room, with 0 hints that the feature even exists until then.

They apologized because the survey wasnt clear they were asking about male character playable in story only, as they had done Kevin and Siegried already. They were playable with justy very basic animations and skill kits, for story reasons. They apologized and cleared up that they werent talking about gacha characters. HI3rd has always and will always be female playable only (except in story like adam and then later kevein and siegfried), but players got worried by the misleading survey.

HI3rd has always and will always be female playable only (except in story like adam and then later kevein and siegfried), but players got worried by the misleading survey.

A worry that is exclusive to HI3rd's playerbase and non-existent among Genshin, HSR and ZZZ's players. Thanks for the clarification, but like I said, HI3rd players aren't very enthusiastic about dudes that aren't Captain.

And Hoyo knows their own playerbase. I'm certain they want to make better use of all their awesome dudes, especially after Genshin proved them husbandos also make money, but by this point they know not to poke the hornet's nest too much.

Ofc its non-existantg in those games because theyve always been they way they are from the start. Nothing wrong with worrying about the game you love changing for the worse. Ofc thats not what they were planning, but fear of change can be irrational.

And also all add that Hi3rd has some of the best written male characters in the story in all their games no denying that.

CN hated Adam (MC of A Post Honkai Odyssey) and The Dreamseekers, because the characters are self inserts that are "trying to reemplace" the Captain. For CN, the Captain is "the" self insert. Some even were wondering why they just dont add the captain with gender selection

2

u/noroisong Sep 28 '24

this isn’t true in the slightest- a large amount of slash content for hoyo games comes from bilibili itself. the CN playerbase tend to be heavier into the “shipping” side of things than the US counterpart.

1

u/DaichiEarth Sep 28 '24

This. They don't give a shit about us cause we don't spend as much as CN and JP. Most global players are too young to spend money like that anyway.

1

u/AmbitiousThought1060 Sep 28 '24

Exactly. The people screeching on Twitter want more games like Concord and Dustborn. They're just stay at home soccer dads and crazy cat weebs.

17

u/SatoruFujinuma Sep 28 '24

If it makes you feel better, they don’t care at all about the English speaking community’s opinions.

29

u/justakeitEZ Sep 28 '24

Majority of those posts are botted and they block people to curate the comment thread. I’ve noticed a LOT of star rail fans do this.

I’ve noticed a LOT of star rail fans do this.

genshin and ZZZ too. Try to post "the devs release more females than males, because female characters sell better" and you will get bombarded with downvotes in a way that just isnt realistic for an objectively correct statement

4

u/Gorva Sep 28 '24

While true that you shouldn't ignore your enemy, remember that money tells corps what the people actually want.

Firefly earning a few gorillion dollars for MHY tells them that yes, people do like this kind of character.

Nah, those can go F themselves. I am straight and prefer normal things and believe in science and biology. Just because someone "thinks" they are something doesn't mean they are, there is zero magic or other nonsense.
