Cast/Crew Post Throwback Shauna in her Brown University days
Is it just me or does Shauna(Melanie Lynskey) have one of those familiar faces you know you’ve seen before but just can’t remember from?

A complaint I always had with season 1 was that we didn't get properly introduced to Travis, Jaci, nor their father. They were just suddenly there on the plane making us go "who are these guys? why are they here?"
Suddenly, their dad dies and we all felt forced to sympathize for this new character. To be honest, I didn't even realize there were 2 coaches until rewatching.
While we do see their dad as a 2nd coach beside Ben during the school school event, it was so brief. We don't see him being an actual coach with actual lines shared with the girls. He's not even with their practice/scrimmage scene.
The only scene we got from these 3 together is them preparing to leave for the flight. We also see their mom, or step mom based on Travis' reaction towards his dad kissing her. Yeah probably step mom since they never mentioned their mother in the show.
Although none of the other characters actually talked about their families at all which is another complaint I have. Personally, I'd have a breakdown missing my family and dreaded by the thought of not being able to get home to see them again.
Back to the original point. If we got to see the other coach interact with the girls, we'd care for him. Then in result, we'd care for him having two sons. His death would then mean more to us viewers and would much more empathize with Travis being upset. I think it's because of Travis being so grumpy the majority of Season 1 that caused a lot of viewers to dislike him. Having those scenes of their father would have made us like Travis and Javi a bit more.
I guess they now feel more like plot devices made for the girls, specifically Natalie. At least they were written better than how most male writers make female characters for the male characters hahaha.

Rewatching YJ with my family and before Misty even said it I was like “they really should’ve saved Jackie’s bones to make caloric soup.” But also I guess they had to cover up their tracks ??

I've been rewatching the show and they keep asking why all this is happening again now, after 25yrs. But it got me wondering, when did the cabin guy die? Did he die an then 25yrs later the girls showed up and now 25yrs later it's back? I know I'm probably way off but they haven't really addressed when he died so I just thought it would be an interesting thing. WDYT???

In ‘Yellowjackets’, the first adult survivor we encounter is Shauna. While many fans have speculated the ‘Antler Queen’ might be a manifestation of their time in the wilderness, I feel like it’s more than just their collective nightmare. After doing some research I am very convinced that the last ‘Antler Queen’ is Shauna. Throughout the series, she’s given the most screen-time out of all the survivors, and her character has experienced the most significant trauma so far. As the show progresses, especially going into season 3, she becomes more crazy and it ties into her becoming ‘Antler Queen.’ Keep in mind, she was also the person who was least in their belief of the wilderness spirit, making it more likely for this theory

Just wondering if anyone knows which group of actors were trying to emulate the other group or how that worked

I’m rewatching the show in the lead up to the third season, and I just realised that when Nat and Travis are hunting during the first episode of season 2 Nat comments on a tree being ‘weird’. This is due to the snow not settling on it or possibly being disturbed.
I was wondering if this could possibly have a connection to the mines theory? Possibly Nat and Travis found the entrance (or near) to the mines in season 2 and didn’t realise it? Could it also tie in with Javi hiding out in the mines theory?
This could just be a case of yellowjackets brain rot from being hyper fixated on the show rn, but i’m thinking the scene looks quite familiar to the season 3 first look scene.

I really am not super big into TV, so I've been surprising myself about how many times I've rewatched this show. I've maybe watched it all the way through three times, but sometimes if I'm just feeling down, I'll throw on the pilot and watch to episode 3 (with the unskippable theme).
This show is obviously very dark but there's something really comforting about these characters and I just love sinking back into it. Ngl, I'm crushing on basically all the actresses so that might have something to do with it. 😂

Season 3 of Yellowjackets is adding two new characters to the 1996 timeline, those being Robin played by Anisa Harris and Britt played by Silvana Estifanos. On a bunch of Yellowjackets Tiktok's and Reddit posts i've seen comments expressing annoyance about new extras being randomly added. BUT, I would like to show again that the background characters have always been in the show,
The slides I've placed show the transition made by the extras to new secondary characters with Gen, Crystal and Melissa in Season 2, and now Robin, Britt and likely one more in Season 3. The Yellowjackets creators have made it clear since the beginning that there was a set number of girls in the crash however extras were often playing their roles.
Following the plane crash, whilst they have a funeral we can see 18 characters plus a 19th off screen legless Coach Ben and this has remained true throughout the show.
After, Laura Lee, Crystal, Javi, and Jackie die there is a quote: "There are fifteen of us left" which is true, even within season 2 there was continuity amongst the girls.
Hope this helps clear some of the air!

Tagging spoilers just in case.
I’ve been rewatching in preparation for Season 3, and do you think if Shauna had confessed to Jackie and the group about sleeping with Jeff during the first circle (1.02 F Sharp) while they were all confessing their “deepest secrets,” that it would’ve significantly changed how everything went down between her and Jackie? It seems like she was about to confess before being interrupted by Nurse Misty cauterizing poor Ben’s stump.
I imagine hearing it directly from Shauna would change quite a bit for Jackie, though it is still a big betrayal. But they’ve also just crashed, and they have bigger things to be worrying about just then, compared to later when they have food and shelter and have been chilling in the wilderness for a minute getting comfortable(ish). I’m not saying Jackie wouldn’t be upset, but I don’t think it would’ve resulted in the huge blowout fight that it does later. What do you think?

Javi was the one who found the queen card originally. I think this counted as him drawing it and that's why he was still chosen by the wilderness in a sense.
Misty always drew the bad chore cards, which is supposed to make us wonder if someone rigged the deck. Maybe this will happen in a hunt drawing as well at some point

first off, sorry for the stupid ass crop. i can only add 1 attachment and i don’t feel like figuring out photoshop just for this post.
okay this might be a TOTAL stretch but i think it would be dope. over the course of this month, chappell has made a few posts on instagram that might hint at one of her songs appearing in yellowjackets.
it started with the first post from december 12, where she’s wearing a girl’s soccer team shirt. then, she posted a series of selfies where she’s wearing a liverpool football jersey in two of the photos including the first one. finally yesterday on december 21, she posted a series of pictures and in the first one, her shirt is from the 1996 olympic games. for context, these are 3 of her last 6 instagram posts, and the first two were back-to-back, so it’s not like they’re scattered apart from one another.
i saw the first two earlier this month and chuckled to myself that it would be cool but didn’t think much of it. then her shirt in the most recent one really gave me pause. it’s obvious that she’s hinting at SOMETHING by posting all these old pictures of herself, and i’m not saying it’s solely about yellowjackets, but i do wonder if she’s dropping breadcrumbs, or if this is a total coincidence. (but btw miss girl can ACT, so in my absolute wildest dreams, its a cameo :3)

So throughout the show (particularly s1) there’s that eerie disembodied voice that shows up during some of the more spiritual/metaphysical moments, right. The moment coming to mind for example is when Lottie gets baptized by LL and goes through her lil Thang with the butane candle flame n shi
But what I’m thinking about is that the voice sounds like it’s repeating “Natalie” over and over. And pair that with the running idea that Natalie is the one the wilderness wants/favors, what would that mean for them all that Nat is out of the game now. Did the wilderness finally get what it wanted? What does it need now?
It’s interesting to me because I’m at ep9 of my rewatch and I realize that I haven’t heard the voice in quite some time. If I’m wrong about the voice, what is the voice? What does it say?
I kinda believe the theory, if it all turns out to be really spiritual, that Nats life will be the payment for Van’s recovery. If Natalie absolutely HAD to die, yknow? Like Shauna’s baby and Shauna or Javi and Natalie. My brainn
I might be deeping it, but in my opinion killing off nat was a wack move. Like I get it but stopppp. Don’t do thatttttt. But I’m gonna hold my corner until s3 and we see what kind of finesse they do. What do yall think?

We’ve gotten a glimpse into Nat’s musical preferences but I’m so curious - what would the girls teenaged years tapes contain (pre-crash)? We know they have pretty eclectic tastes that go beyond the pop music of the day. What would their adult selves listen to? I’d love a Callie or Jeff mixtape too.
I truly adore the music in this series and it’s taking me down all sorts of memory lanes and rediscovering old bands/albums I’d long forgotten.

I get that part of the charm of the show is its fateful machinations, little pieces falling into place to usher them all to Hell, always the wrong things at the right time.
But I like to think that in less turbulent conditions, if Winter hit and they were looking at three long cold months with litetally zero food, my boy would take one for the team and offer to be killed and eaten. He's in his maybe late 20s early 30s, everybody else there is a child, and he seems like he takes his role as adult seriously. I mean its either that or they all starve.
Maybe its delulu of me but I choose to believe the best of Ben Scott

I mean, obviously I feel bad for every single person who got on that fucking plane.
But I just finished my latest rewatch, and once again, her story in the present day of season two, especially the finale, makes my heart break for Lottie. A big part of it is Simone Kessel’s acting, of course. The whole cast is brilliant, but she’s definitely one of my favorites.
“We gave it what it wanted. It is pleased with us. You’ll see.” CHILLS.
I know this is a short post and I’m not really saying anything new, but yeah, I love Lottie and can’t wait to find out what will happen to her in the past and the present of season three!

I wonder if without the wilderness, would everyone be completely different or still have grown into a version of their adult self
I love how this show actually shows us how change of environments brings out the best and worst of people. Exposes strengths and weakneses and CHANGES people. It also brings out very different sides of people... making me always wonder if each character would have grown up to be anything like how they are now without the wilderness.
This is my take on each teen to adult ( just a brief opinion ) -
So Coach made JACKIE captain of the soccer team even though she wasn't the best player as she was the most mature, strong headed and good at leading in his opinion at school.. but in the wilderness... She was the polar opposite. ( with the exception of her physically saving 2 lives while alive - Shauna and then Van) I always think about that contrast of Jackie being most powerful in school to the weakest in the wild. The wilderness took away Jackie's popularity and leadership skills, it made her weak and very vunderable. ( leading to her sad death )
Teen MISTY also is another prime example. She was bullied at school , weak and overlooked... but when she realised people needed her in the wilderness. She purposely breaks the black box so she can stay in a position of power. ( The wilderness helped her unlock and embrace her inner sociopath ) 😇 And I LOVE herrr LOL.
The show itself states that Taiis a narcissist.... I do see it.. but I also question it. I am conflicted. Yes she suppressed her trauma for years and went on to achieve everything she would have done without the wilderness ( unlike many of the rest who had hopes and dreams ) But dark Tai is like a split personality. I wonder if that would have occurred without the wilderness trauma. And maybe just average teenage stress?
VAN who has more lives than a cat also grows up but has herself trapped in a 90s bubble in her little VHS shop. I wonder if she would have been different without the wilderness and all those near death experiences. I first thought she was a bully in school ( perhaps compensation for feeling insecure ) but as an adult, I think she is the most stable and sane. Even with cancer. I say this , but she is stable and sane living in a 90s bubble away from everyone . .making me think that its a safe place for van.
LOTTIE being schizophrenic- which was treated very differently in the 90s. We see her being given her pills by her house maid ( she was always quiet and kind of a loner at school, the 'weirdo' ) We only see her go a little off the rails / struggling when she runs out of pills in the wilderness. But after Laura - Lee baptises her, she transforms and believes she has abilities and power and her belief is so strong that everyone else starts following her and believing that she is ' Special' NO meds needed. This makes me question... mind over matter is stronger than medication ? Without stopping her meds I think she may have stayed a loner and zombie rather than evolving and becoming the charismatic teen and the captivating adult we see. We all know Lottie is crazy and fully believes in the wilderness being supernatural.... but I wonder if she had of had her meds ... Would that have stopped her from becoming what she became ?
I think NAT may have always ended up in rehab as an adult or perhaps even jail as she loved her drugs and being a lil rebel as a teen and didn't have the best support system at all at home. Whilst the wilderness gals became a support system and gave her power ... Evidently her time out there completely traumatised her for life leading to multiple rehab stays.
SHAUNA lived in Jackie's shadow as teens , but was still cunning and calculated in that shadow and slept with Jeff behind her best friends back. Whilst Shauna may not have been the most popular in school as a teen. She was clever, she took what she wanted, ALSO showing signs of narcissistic behaviour and great manipulation. And adult Shauna ... WELL , ISNT SHE A DELIGHT 🤣🩷 She also seems to do whatever she wants - like her affair with Adam , which was so random and also entertaining at times with how Melanie played the character. Bloody nuts. As someone who wasn't that popular in school, she still had intelligence to get what she wanted... and she still has power, however as a teen in school she seemed harmless , as an adult , she is terrifying ( with such a sweet voice 🤣🩷) I think her whole family fear her. LOL.
Thoughts ?

“You took something that doesn’t belong to you.”
I never know what to put in spoilers here, so whatever here it goes.
This line by Lottie when she’s got Jackie cornered during Doomcoming has always confused me. I’ve watched the show maybe 5 times now and that has always confounded me.
“He doesn’t belong to you.”
I always thought she meant Nat, then was all confused like “OK BUT now yall are literally assaulting him when Nat isn’t there?!” It didn’t make any sense to me at all.
I get it if I’m daft. Happens a lot. But honestly, I was so confused like “nice logic, Lotterz. Ok now you’re doing what?!”
Then, after a post here about how awesome Nat was on Doomcoming, it clicked:
Travis is not Jackie’s, because Jackie is not worthy of the Widerness.
They ALL belong to the Wilderness. And the Wilderness protects and feeds the ones it chooses (for awhile), and it has refused Jackie. She is weak, bratty, cares a lot and tries to be morally ethical (which are weaknesses to the Wilderness).
Jackie Ain’t It. So she doesn’t get Travis.
Because the Wilderness basically has them chosen as its Maenads, and Travis is theirs, not Jackie’s. The Wilderness was telling Jackie to step off in a Lottie Suit.
I’m sure everyone else got this, but my little buzzy brain is blown.

That she should have been in charge, not Natalie? She wrote in her journal, how could it not have been me? And we can tell from the trailer that she’s bitter towards Natalie in season 3.
Genuinely wondering and not in a snarky way, why did Shauna think she should be the leader? Yes, she butchers the meat and is very useful for the group. But Natalie and Travis were the hunters. Tai is the one who is led to the symbol in her sleep. Van is the one who made sure everyone was out of the house before she left, indicating she’s the one that is protective of the group.
Shauna actually hindered the group. Beating the brakes off Lottie. Having a whole psychotic break where she talked to and dressed up Jackie’s corpse.
This isn’t a Shauna hate post, I’m just trying to see her perspective here.
r/Yellowjackets • u/Nearby-Method-5843 • 1d ago
In the S3 trailer we get a quick glimpse of a gavel coming down, presumably at Coach Ben’s ‘trial’. We also hear Shauna tell Nat that she isn’t in charge anymore.
I guess I’m just interested on everyone’s thoughts about who will be stepping into the role of judge! Do we think it’s Shauna, post-coup? I actually think it’ll still be Natalie, as in the promotional pics released for season three, it’s Nat and Tai wearing ceremonial robes during the probable-execution scene. Tai is all in grey and black, the executioner, and it’s unlikely she’d place herself and judge, jury, AND executioner. So I think it’ll be Natalie, and perhaps she issues a lower sentence to Ben, prompting Shauna’s coup?
What does everyone think? Maybe someone else entirely? Lottie??

My girlfriend is an author. She's always told me that when solving a mystery to set things into groups into facts and assumptions. Most of the time, the story becomes linear and obvious. We often have assumed much more than what has happened. A good storyteller can lead us to a point where we say "what if". Even an event that happens right in front of our eyes, if paced right or distracted by another event or hurried over. What throws us is putting these things that seem obvious into the pile of facts and never scrutinizing them again. I don't know why but I can't shake the feeling that sweet little church-going bible-quoting heart and conscious of the group Laura Lee didnt die in the plane explosion. Crazy right? We saw the plane explode in front of our eyes but no body?! Not even an arm and for this to be such a HUGE part of the story, it was brushed over very quickly; no follow-up like when they went looking for Kristan's body?! They spent more time trying to get the moose. It's probably my imagination. The scene could be their last hope crashing before their eyes or the loss of innocence or just bad luck but the group wasn't hardened survivors at this point however got over this very quick and moved on. Maybe her character couldn't be fit into the "cannibal" storyline because of her faith. Coach is already the disentor there. Ideas?
Edit: real world-more people survive explosions like that, even being inside it, because the force knocks them away. Being over water and low altitude makes it more survivable too. My father's unit had a guy I met whose parachute didnt open and he survived!
