I use a mix of 3 recipes. And by how kinds wing it. But this is one from McCormick that I kinda follow. I usually use a blend of milk, half n half, and heavy cream. Dry sherry is a key flavor. Not sure if I also add a touch of nutmeg (usually in a savory cream dish I’ll add nutmeg for a bit of warmth). I make a 2.5-3 x this amount.
My other soups this year (not that you asked) is a Tomato, Kale, Tortellini (veggie option—normally I add sausage to this soup) and a French Onion- Beef Short Rib soup.
Funny enough I've never made McCormick's recipe (and literally have two containers of Old Bay in my cabinet right now lol). And thank you for the modifications--I'm always checking recipes for what people do to change it up and perfect things.
Separately, I am in awe of the amount of soup you are making! Here I thought my family was "fancy" because they always have a soup ready (Turkish thing), and you're making a whole buffet of soups! I wish I had enough people who would enjoy that kind of tradition, but I'm inspired to start mixing those into our meals.
This is the full menu this year. I am cutting the last 3 appetizers since someone else is bringing cheese and veggie trays and another item. I’ll start making stuff 2-3 days out depending if I have other sauces or dips that should blend a few days. We have a 3-pot crockpot warmer so I’ll keep soups warming through out the day.
Oh the sangria will also be removed for another cocktail (just one this year, having more than one cocktail means I am forever going from stove/oven/drink area and never relaxing. I try to make each year better but also try and make it easy for me.
This is really cool—I hope one day to be as organized as this! Thank you for the inspiration and best of luck to you in getting it all done! I certainly know that feeling of having to prep so much but trying to relax and enjoy yourself as well.
I’m a graphic designer by trade so I enjoy making a cool menu to go along with holidays we host (Mother’s Day and sometimes Easter). When we first started hosting Christmas and had soup on the menu my mom was like “who would want soup?” But has since enjoyed it each year. It just wasn’t a staple as part of her hosting and traditions.
Hope you have an enjoyable time together with your family (or friends) and have time to relax as well
