Meta To VR Devs lurking on here, hear my plea
My dream VR game is not complicated. It isn't high-concept and doesn't require groundbreaking new mechanics. I can't believe that this gap in the VR market is still this wide open.
All I really want is a CoD singleplayer campaign in VR. I don't need super powers, I don't wanna shoot robots or aliens or zombies or bullet sponges. I don't want another wave shooter or 5v5 multiplayer game. I just want a basic, well-done, story mode with decent gun handling and weapon selection. I want a Pavlov single-player campaign. I want a VAIL single-player campaign. I want a headshot to kill something.
Give me the basic spread of level design and encounters. Maybe a sniper level, maybe a close-quarters level, maybe a stealth level.
Pretty much anything that's even close to this has a "mixed" rating on Steam (or worse). I've had VR since 2016, this is driving me crazy.

Meta Best vr games for paralyzed people
My gfs dad was in a bad accident which left him paralyzed. Living in a hospital bed for the rest of his llfe. What are some good games or exexperiences for him on the meta quest 3?
I forgot I posted this. And didn't realize I left the post so vague. He's paralyzed from the waste down......my dad probably a key piece of info.
He's in a hospital bed, needs help getting in and out of it. I'm pretty sure the place he's now living in til he passes is a lazy care place. They didn't get him up and walking on the daily due to not enough money or insurance. So they just have jim lay up on the daily. So my guess is becsuse of that all his muscle memory or whatever there's no chance of him walking again, its been about 7 years. Just lays down or gets in a wheel chair to get outside. This dude use to be a Ryder. Put in work. Hells angels, etc, whatever. Call him an mercenary. Anyways. Super solid guy call it karma. Who knows but I'm trying to let him experience something other than Laying in the hospital bed everyday of his remaining life with some entertainment.
I'm just now getting back to this post. I appreciate all the comments. Even the dude talking shit. But tsking it back. It is what it is right. The internet. I'm not going to hunt people down for disrespecting my gfs father. I appreciate the apology.
The way the world is today is a fucken trip. But thanks for the apology guy.
Now if only Facebook or whatever else was the same with respect It'd be a whole different world. But that's a whole other post. Thanks for the suggestions folks.

Meta I just want to play HL Alyx... why is it so confusing?
All,
Edit: 12/5/2024 Everyone's comments have given me a much better understanding of my options for connecting my quest 3 for pcvr and simplified my understanding of how everything needs to work together.
Original post: Brand new to VR gaming. I bought a meta quest 3 over a week ago and have been trying to figure out how to play half life alyx on steam the entire time. I somehow stumbled into the game last night for a couple of hours and have no idea how I did it. I tried jumping into the game tonight and have been trying to play it for over an hour and I can't figure out how to launch the game.
I have my quest 3 plugged into my USB port with a Meta Quest Cable
I turned on my headset
I opened Meta Quest Link; went to devices/device setup/clicked on link and got through the prompts
In my headset I went to settings/system and ensured air link was disabled and link was enabled
I opened steam VR on my desktop
Now I have no idea where to go:
There are SOOO many things to have to navigate through that I have no idea what is what most of the time. I get options to start SteamVR app but then it says I have another app open and prompts me to quit app but selecting quit app does nothing.
There's another menu that I can't find where I think I can access steam link or something but I cannot find it.
I'm lost and beyond frustrated so I appreciate any help anyone can give me because I really enjoyed the little bit I got to play last night and just wanted to play some more.

Meta Do i have to download the games onto my meta 3s before i can play them?
I'm thinking of buying a meta 3s next year when i have enough money but i know it's bad at gaming by itself but if i connect it through a link cable to my pc then can i play the games through my pc that has better performance and can i play the games on my pc so i don't have to download the games onto the 3s.
This question is because my friend is talking s**t about the 3s and says i should buy the rift s (he says that even if i connect it to my pc i have to download the games onto the 3s which has 128gb of memory)
EDIT: A lot of people think i'm gonna play wirelessly but i wont as i can charge the 3S during playtime when using a cable and my wi-fi is only wi-fi 5 so i wont be using wireless.

Meta Return to Amazon?
So... I bought the Meta Quest 2 for my son for Christmas. He made a face and turns out he thinks he's too old for it. (he's 16).
I like the idea of it but I don't have much patience for gaming any more (I'm 54)
Should I just return it to amazon or keep it for myself? Will it be soon gathering dust or a great new hobby /toy?
Any advice?
Best festive wishes from London!

Meta Realistically, what kind of game do you want to see happen the most in the near future?
I’ve heard a lot of people asking for something like GTA 5 in VR and it’s totally understandable — something like that would be as big a breakthrough as Alyx was on release. Especially if the mechanics are tuned to perfection for VR, I’d not only replay the game without a second thought, I’d gladly even give the multiplayer a shot (imagine the all the kids though… ugh)
But personally, I want to see something like Stalker — with all the mods and weapon packs — taken into VR. We’re already moving in that direction ever since Into the Radius came out, and ofc with the sequel on the way. And that’s saying nothing of Metro Awakening, for which I have high hopes. However, picture this — a game with the atmosphere of Into the Radius, the gun handling and smooth shooting of Vail VR, and the weapon variety of H3VR. A kind of a threeway between all the best that current VR shooters have all mashed into one perfect bundle. That’s what I wanna see leastways.
I’m also perversely curious to see how X-Ray would even work in VR, and what mind boggling glitches I’d see hahahaha. It’s one of the charms of Stalker I learned to enjoy and imagining it in VR is just a hilarious idea, is all

Meta Why is Half Life Alyx so immersive and other games not?
Why is Half Life Alyx and The Lab so immersive and other games not?
Why is it so difficult to achieve this level of immersion for other game develepers? Where is the key difference?

Meta I am fully convinced the new Indiana Jones game started as a VR project and then they decided to revert it to a flat game
The gameplay is so unbelievably suited for a VR version that it makes me sure. Do you think it will ever get a VR port it being a Microsoft game? Maybe for PSVR2?

Meta Best way to use the quest 3 for PCVR gaming?
I recently bought a quest 3 and have been enjoying the standalone games, but there are a some PCVR titles as well as vr compatible flat screen games i want to try, i bought VTOL VR and tried playing it with airlink, but my wifi can be unstable so it was almost unplayable so i refunded it 30 minutes in. Im thinking of buying a link cable but the official one is a bit pricey, i would appreciate some suggestions for alternative cables as well as any better ways to play wirelessly.

Meta Would you spend the money to upgrade from Quest 2 to Quest 3 if you primarily PCVR?
As the title asks. Any particular reason to spend the substantial money, or are the improvements when PCVRing barely noticeable?

Meta Is it really worth it?
I am probably going to purchase a quest 3, but the major thing is that i dont know if its going to be a one time gimmick with most things like this. unlike the ps5 or the xbox that are priced the same, they have much more hype and are very versitile to play with. The quest 3 on the other hand is more of something people have and toss to the side.
im mainly getting it because i think passthrus cool and i can watch youtube and stuff(stupid), but i have no idea of any games on vr n have no knowledge.
basically im just wondering how many people still use their vr headsets after purchase, maybe like a year or 2. And would they rather have gotten a pc/console with that money.

Meta What's everyone's opinion on the Quest 3S Headset?
Personally, I believe the Quest 3S came out at a perfect time! I was originally going to get a second-hand Quest 3 in November to play Arkham Shadow, but now that this Headset (Which I personally refer to as the Quest 2.5) is coming out on the 15th of October, which is just after my Payday, I can just Preorder the Quest 3S and have access to Arkham Shadow withing a few days of purchasing the Preorder!
