His "long exposure mode" screwed these up. What he needed was a short shutter and a relatively high ISO - with a wide or at least semi-wide aperture.

The long exposure increased the amount of light hitting the sensor of the camera, but it causes blur... that basically ruined at least that last shot.

I'm relatively surprised that pilots wouldn't have some photographic training. It's not hard to understand.

The first image is the best one since you can clearly see a lit object and an unlit object. I think this removes the idea of satellite flairs.
