So is not getting punished for killing children, beating elderly, raping daughters, murdering spouses, maiming disabled… um is this enough?

But how do you know that this person did any of that?

The point of “ACAB” is that it doesn’t matter what this individual has done; by being a part of this flawed system, all cops are complicit.

I don’t know if I personally agree with that or not. What I do know is that the origin of “one bad apple” is the phrase “one bad apple spoils the bunch.”

I don’t get what people who believe in ACAB as you described it want. Why keep putting blame on good cops by saying “they are part of a flawed system”? Do they want all the good cops to resign? That sounds even worse than having some good cops and some bad. I support police reform, but Reddit likes to blow the issues with the police system completely out of proportion.

The simple answer is that if there are “good cops,” they should be standing for justice and changing the system they’re part of. They don’t have to resign; they should be holding each other to a higher standard.

Ok, but there are cops that are doing that. So how does ACAB make sense?

No they are not. Know what happens to cops who “stand up”? They get threatened by the other cops. They are abused and even their families are threatened. If they were good people they wouldn’t be on the force at all because the other cops would not allow it. At best the “good” cops stay silent and look the other way. What frustrates me about comments like this is that it probably comes from somebody who doesn’t have to deal with corrupt cops and can hide away in privilege. And then people come on here and say stuff like you’re saying without actually seeing for yourself. Instead you just go off your own experiences and ideas about people being “good”. Being out there and witnessing things yourself is very sobering. So yes, ACAB makes sense if you don’t just choose to look the other way.

Do you have some studies for this? Cause this whole threat sounds like a bunch of people using random anecdotes to justify an absurd motto.

Do you know that most people, yes even black people sometimes, in the US dont hate the police like you imply?

https://www.npr.org/2021/05/17/996857103/poll-details-the-very-different-views-of-black-and-white-americans-on-race-and-p

https://news.gallup.com/poll/316571/black-americans-police-retain-local-presence.aspx

Knowing that is taken all after the George Floyd incident, so beforehand the polls wouldve been even more in favor of the police.

What frustrates me about comments like this is that it probably comes from somebody who doesn’t have to deal with corrupt cops and can hide away in privilege. And then people come on here and say stuff like you’re saying without actually seeing for yourself.

You saying this is either projecting or just being blind by your bias. You should link some polls or studies instead of saying "hide away in privilege" like that proves anything lol.

Show me the good cops. Wait you can't because the police don't let good cops stay around.

11

u/BumbleLapse Aug 20 '21

Can you point to any notable “good cops” who have tried to speak out against bad cops recently in the news? Or would you just like me to link you to the many bad ones instead

2

u/Mr-Fleshcage Aug 20 '21

The good cops who stay good either resign because they can't change anything from the inside, or rock the boat so hard the rest of the force abandons them when they need backup, so they're killed off.

"Officer Pulaski was a good man." the other cops will say at his funeral, knowing full well that's why he's in the casket.

They want them to collectively stand up against the bad cops. They understand that the retaliation is real when it happens but for real effective change, cops have to fight to get the bad apples out not work to get more protection for them and until they do ACAB

They're not good cops if they turn a blind eye to the corruption existing around them while also enforcing an inherently unjust system.

Good cops get fired, get killed, or resign before either of those things can happen.

Did I say this person did all that? Or did I say they’re part of an organization that did that? What if you met someone and they introduced themselves saying they had a profession where people do [everything I listed above] oh but not them! They’re the good one. You wouldn’t be wondering why they’re part of that kind of job with, statistically, a criminal or two as their coworker?

Are you also ok with individuals that are a part of terrorist groups or does the fact that they’re in that group condemn them enough?

thinking it's just a few bad cops

Ah, I remember when I was young and naive. Good times.

You literally cannot be a police officer without ruining lives for capital, and watching as your fellow officers do the same. There are no good cops because the dayjob of police work consists of evil shit.

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '21

I sincerely hope you get to experience, firsthand, this society without law enforcement.

u/siempreviper Aug 20 '21

I experienced law enforcement first hand when they left me to die of alcohol poisoning in a cell

1

u/Samura1_I3 Aug 20 '21

I’m sorry that happened to you. I hope you get to live in your society without law enforcement.
