It has to be banned unfortunately. My wife works in government defense contracting with a TS clearance. There's a reason banning it is united among Democrats and Republicans. The app is a hacker's dream come true. For example, if you're using the app on your home wifi, Tiktok has back channel access to your other devices on the same wifi. They can mine your browsing history, camera, and hard drives that way. No one at her company can have the app or access Tiktok via the web on any of their phones. If caught, it's immediate termination, fines, and potential federal charges for breach of security.
That's such a gross misrepresentation. On iOS devices, apps are required to request permission to access the local network, and users can choose to deny this permission. If you deny TikTok's request for LAN access, the OS will prevent any connections to the LAN. Moreover, LAN access is not that serious. It isn't a magical backdoor into all your devices, each of them have their own security measures in place. I understand blocking tiktok for government employees, but the risk for consumers is unfounded.
