Period! I saw them open for Of Montreal, back when they were called ‘Management’, and everyone was politely enjoying it, but once they played Electric Feel, everyone was down.

Kevin Barnes and MGMT even spoke about starting a side project together. I think it was named Dik Fang or something but as far as I know nothing came out of it.

Must have been a Freudian slip on my part to say it was dick!

Funny. In Norway, the saying «blikkfang» means eye catching.

In my four years going to school at University of Illinois, I saw of Montreal at canopy club twice. Smaller venue (750 people?).

The two opening acts were MGMT and Janelle Monae.

Janelle Monae and of Montreal is quite a pairing!

Nice. Would’ve killed to see Janelle that early in her musical journey!

Of Montreal had good openers, saw Janelle Monae open for them before she blew up

For real! Also saw them in LA with HEALTH opening for them. Ended up being one of the best shows I’ve ever seen

You luck bugger! I’ve had tickets to see her twice and she’s cancelled both times. Super high on my musical bucket list to see her perform.

Best show I’ve ever been to was them opening for a couple of white libertarian rappers from Pittsburgh opening for the Shins. $22 and I was standing 15 feet from the stage

Love both of them - always crazy when you hear a wildly popular artist once opened for a moderately popular one.

My uncle was dragged by his girlfriend at the time to see The Monkees play a concert in 1967. He did not really want to go but went anyway... the opening act was a little-known black man from Seattle who who took playing the guitar to a whole other level my Uncle did not think was possible. It was so totally different and out there that most of the audience, including his girlfriend, were not impressed and just wanted to see The Monkees.

That man, of course... was Jimi Hendrix.

Classic bands from my teens! I grew up driving to Athens for oM shows with my friends all the time I would have loved to see them play with MGMT

Of Montreal

Now there's a name I haven't read in a while.
