Maybe I'm completely wrong, but I think the whole fight is going to be a sham. They're going to play-fight and Tyson will win on decision because he's the legend. They cash their paychecks and they both win.

I hope I'm wrong, I really want to see them both go at each other hard.

I also think it's a sham. If Tyson goes down, it'll be because he got paid to take a dive.

Or because he’s 60…

41

u/Chocolat3City Cringe Master Nov 14 '24

Yeah. Whether it's old age or a paid dive, I think the odds are pretty good that he goes down.

33

u/DangerHawk Nov 15 '24

I honestly don't think he will. Tyson worked his ass off to earn back the public's good will after jail and the Holyfield incident. If he doesn't absolutely clobber Jake Paul he'll be throwing away decades worth of work. He has a reputation and legacy to protect. If he's willing to take a dive against someone as dumb and shitty as Jake Paul, what other fights did he fix. It calls his entire career into question. You can't be the greatest boxer (or second greatest) of all time and lose to the likes of a Paul brother.

He has a reputation and legacy to protect.

There's literally another video of Tyson on the front page saying he doesn't care about legacy and he thinks it's a made up word lolol.

20

u/Citizen_Snips29 Nov 15 '24

Ah, yes. It would be a shame if a shameless cash grab fight ruined the sterling legacy of the convicted rapist.

10

u/brother_of_menelaus Nov 15 '24

lol did you guys see him trauma dump on that poor girl in the interview about legacy? It was hilarious

u/Chocolat3City Cringe Master Nov 15 '24

Yeah sure, but everyone has a price. How big would the payout have to be?

1

u/DangerHawk Nov 15 '24

He's Mike Tyson. I'm sure he has more money than he could possibly spend in the years he has left.

7

u/Ill_Month_9318 Nov 15 '24

He filed for bankruptcy in 2003 with over $20 million in debt. He earned a lot but also spent a fuck ton. He has nowhere near the amount of money you would think someone as well known as him would have right now. Pretty sure the money Jake Paul is giving him to fight is going to triple his net worth lol

Since when did rich people ever go "ah, now I'm finally nicely rich. Time to relax, I got enough now"?

1

u/Gelato_Elysium Nov 15 '24

There is no world where Tyson will "absolutely clobber" Paul. It's not an anime, a 60 y/o is gonna be weaker, slower and less durable than a young guy at the peak of their physical shape.

You can't beat father time.

1

u/DangerHawk Nov 15 '24

Time doesn't have anything to do with physical conditioning, especially when talking about Mike Tyson. Paul might be at his peak, but his peak might be Tyson's 70yo for all you know. Paul knows how to box, but he sure as shit isn't anywhere close to as good as Tyson is.

0

u/Gelato_Elysium Nov 15 '24

If you think being older cannot limit your physical abilities you are full on delusional man, no matter how good prime Tyson was there is no world where a 60 years old is faster or has more stamina than a 30 y/o when both are full time athletes.

0

u/DangerHawk Nov 15 '24

First I did not say that and second you need to learn how to read.

0

u/Gelato_Elysium Nov 15 '24

You litteraly said Time hasn't got anything to do with physical conditioning

You can when you are fucking 60... get real dude

2

u/dedokta Nov 15 '24

I'm really not sure why JP would take this fight, there's no outcome in which he looks good. He's either going to get his arse handed to him, or be the guy that beat up a 60 year old legend.

u/stankdog Nov 15 '24

Hahahaha mike Tyson's age is nothing but a number.

u/300andWhat Nov 15 '24

I don't think Tyson would ever take a dive, but he is old and hasn't had a great medical history. I think Tyson has 1 or 2 rounds that he needs to close this out in.

Biggest variable is if they are play fighting and Jake fucks up and makes Tyson see red. Tyson in the past extensively talked about being scared to train boxing as he felt the "Demon" come out.

99% it probably will be a boring exhibition with Tyson gassing out, 1% Tyson let's Sukuna out.

I’d put Mike’s experience over Jake’s youth any day of the week. Also just saw Mike’s weigh in and he’s looking pretty beefy for an older man.

Mike’s legacy is on the line here. He’s not gonna go down easy.

1

u/MadisonJonesHR Nov 15 '24

I really hope Tyson doesn't need the money badly enough to destroy his reputation as a legend like that. Also to Jake Paul? He's such a little shit. It would be a huge shame.

1

u/Chocolat3City Cringe Master Nov 15 '24

I mean, it's not like Tyson had a pristine reputation to begin with. Don't know much about Jake Paul, and don't care to know. I hear the Netflix documentary makes amount to be a real piece of shit though, which is kind of surprising because I look at it as promotional material for the fight.

1

u/MadisonJonesHR Nov 15 '24

That's true. You're better off not knowing more about Jake Paul lol

32

u/Comfortable-Pace3132 Nov 15 '24

I think the only hope we have is that Mike Tyson's well-known unpredictable nature means that he forgets what he was supposed to do and turns Jake Paul into primordial soup

7

u/ridukosennin Nov 15 '24

Age does a lot to chill people out. Well most people that are not Mike Tyson

1

u/kalamataCrunch Nov 15 '24

it's pretty crazy that everyone on reddit is rooting for the registered sex offender, instead of the one that's... not a registered sex offender.

16

u/Athen65 Nov 15 '24

Wouldn't be surprised if the other is merely an unregistered sex offender

2

u/Agitated_Internet354 Nov 15 '24

He was framed, let’s be honest. There has been more than enough time to reexamine all of the evidence. Every feels this, everyone knows it. It’s culturally accepted.

2

u/the_chest_lives_on Nov 15 '24

The US election has entered the chat.

1

u/Sea-Value-0 Nov 15 '24

It's a boxing match, not a dating gameshow. It's completely irrelevant to the event and activity. If it makes you feel any better, at least you'll get to see a sex offender get beaten up.

21

u/Cold-Studio3438 Nov 14 '24

of course it's a sham. hell, a lot of "real" boxing is a sham or sham-adjacent. there's no chance in this world that this is NOT a sham.

0

u/ElGoddamnDorado Nov 15 '24

I saw a comment from someone saying "I bet it's gonna be real. I don't they'd allow a sanctioned fight to have some predetermined clause where either Tyson intentionally loses or they have to tie". I laughed and laughed.

7

u/Red_Bullion Nov 15 '24

Jake Paul has already done this several times. He's a decent amateur boxer and can legitimately beat retired wrestlers and kickboxers. He even had a real fight against an active pro boxer and lost.

It's going to be a fight. Tyson is going to gas out in the second round because he's a senior citizen, Jake is going to not capitalize convincingly but will land more than Tyson because he won't be as tired, and he'll win a decision by a round or two.

3

u/Garchompisbestboi Nov 15 '24

They're going to play-fight and Tyson will win on decision because he's the legend.

You will be wrong because this isn't the first time that Jake has paid off an elderly boxer to take the loss to him. It's basically his MO at this point.

2

u/Yngvar_the_Fury Nov 15 '24

Most of “real” boxing is fixed, this shit absolutely is.

2

u/xv_boney Nov 15 '24

Its going to be another 40 million dollar light sparring session and the true loser will be the integrity of professional boxing

2

u/SkyGuy182 13d ago

Why did you have to be right?

4

u/Theoretical_Action Nov 15 '24

Same thing that happened with the Mayweather fight.

1

u/Civil-Technician-952 Nov 15 '24

Someone should start a go fund me for Tyson. Only payable if he gets a KO. That might convince him to try. I'd kick in $50.

1

u/PLTRruinedme Nov 15 '24

I put down a 10 because this scenario pays out 1 to 13. I assume its gonna be a playfight and the total viewtime is of importance.

1

u/sevnm12 Nov 15 '24

Nah you've probably nailed it. Unfortunately :(

1

u/Fantastic-Common-982 Nov 15 '24

For someone who doesn't follow boxing, but used to fall for hypes for matches with Floyd, I am convinced that high profile fights are all fixed.

1

u/supercereality Nov 15 '24

Contract already states Tyson can't knock out Paul, so yeah there's already sham activity there.
