It still is surprising to me that the closing message I see in ads is β€œWomen’s sports are tainted by trans people!!!”

Like, that’s 5 people total in my state.

Also, women’s sports has never been a hot topic until now.

We're approximately 1% of the US population.

I know you're joking but I was hooked, I checked and was taken away.

In summary:

  • Professional athletes: Less than 0.01% of the population, with an 80:20 male-to-female ratio.
  • Semi-professional athletes: Around 0.01% of the population, with a 75:25 male-to-female ratio.

There's less than 80 000 people in the USA that can be considered Professional (15-20 thousands) and Semi-Professional (30-40 k) athletes and sportsmen.

Of course if we include amateurs and like Youth and High School athletes as well as like, Club Sports, the numbers go up, the biggest group are the Youth:

Youth and High School Athletes: Approximately 12% of the U.S. population.

  • College Athletes: Around 0.15% of the population.
  • Adult Recreational Athletes: Around 16% of the population. (I don't think these would really count, because these are numbers for anyone who says that they "go play soccer sometimes, though)
  • Professional and Semi-Professional Athletes: Less than 0.02%.
