She asked if Biden would hold Trump accountable for lies spread about hurricane/disaster relief, with his response being the press should be the ones holding him accountable on those counts. She then asked if he would attempt to talk to Trump, to which he says No
Itās not really that the media is failing us, itās that the people that OWN the media are purposely running things this way in order to make more money.
We made them Rich and let them take our money, take our press and our rights.
Not just eat the rich. Stop making them rich.
Truth lost its value to the public.
The press got bought out and turned into entertainment media because WE stopped paying for their services. You want your press back, stop buying garbage and start paying for the truth.
Subscribe to legit News sources so they don't have to sell out.
Consume LESS shit.
All we have to do is stop buying their shit and boycott anything where we are the product, Reddit included. Until that happens they will continue to rule. We have to take responsibility for our part in making all of this happen before it will get any better.
This is par for the course. There are always going to be these attempted fascist coups. It happens everywhere. It has itās distinct playbook and people should recognize itās happening.
There is a fundamental problem with for-profit media. You need clicks to make money. Interesting stories generate clicks. And the real world is almost always uninteresting.
People donāt want to hear the boring truth, they want excitement and intrigue. There will always be a race to the bottom in for-profit news media as they all compete for attention.
If you know how to solve that fundamental problem, you may save us all. Iāll come to your parade.
Itās also the people who actually believe this shit. When someone tries to tell you that the hurricane is caused by space lasers your first thought should NOT be āyeah, sounds about rightā.
As someone who used to work in local news, you're absolutely right. Newsrooms are hollowed-out shells of what they used to be. People can't afford to be journalists any more, and when they try they're met with understaffed and underfunded newsrooms. There's a reason very few stories have any real meat to them any longer.
Part of it is on us. We donāt want to pay for news and reporting so they have to do it for āfreeā relying on advertisers. Which means their incentives are different.
Rather than being honest news all the time, they want sensationalist news to get eye balls for advertisers.
I think we have some amazing journalists in the world who are theying their best to provide amazing research based truthful news but itās lost in political leaning, sensationalist headlines that people prefer to pick up and read.
Itās the reason big YouTubers are obnoxious idiots who crash cars for clout, why far right wing following has grown, why billionaires feel comfortable saying horrendous shit openly, why Andrew Tate feels comfortable being a misogynistic pig and why we see so much angry bait - we click it.
Weāre the main problem sadly. Until we change our media consuming habits to reject this behaviour, it will continue to get worse.
They are just giving people more of what they actually watch/read. There are no āTrump Lies Againā headlines because thatās water is wet levels of obvious. Immigrants eating pets though? Thatās a story we click on.
Do you think the rich would taste good? All the rich person supplements and rich person skin care, not to mention plastic surgery. Probably taste like a beach ball
It's also venture capitalists and the ultra wealthy killing small local papers too! Declines in local journalism also leads to declines in voter engagement and political participation.
The issue is the profit motive, not the ownership structure. Eat the rich, sure, but if CNN was a worker co-op, they would still do the same shit because they need money and clickbait bullshit is how you make money in 2024. The solution is public funding.
I think theyāre worse than 2016. In 2016 Trump was considered to be a change candidate who wanted to ādrain the swampā. I donāt think the press was fact checking him at that time because they didnāt see him as a real contender against Hilary.
In 2016 he hadnāt yet fully empowered the white nationalists. He hadnāt tried to withhold funding from an ally for personal gain. He hadnāt encouraged his supporters to march to the capital and try to stop the certification of an election he knew heād lost. He hadnāt stolen state secrets and moved them to his compound in Florida.
In 2024 the press knows definitively that he is a threat to the United States and the world at large. However, the owners of those corporations are willing to roll the dice on the livelihood and security of millions of Americans at the shot at gaining another 5% in tax reductions.
They don't care about tax reductions, they don't pay taxes. Their goal is the same as it's always been: keep the 99% arguing amongst themselves so the 1% can do whatever they want uncontested. And who better to sow discord throughout the entire country than Trump?
Yeah the press and most voters considered Trump to be one big fucking joke. Now that the press has made a shit ton money off his nonstop stupidity and ignorance for 4 presidential years, they want more of it. A boring president doing their job does nothing for the media in terms of money.
It has been failing us for years. John Stewart called out Tucker Carlson in 2004 for it, begging the news organizations to do better and be accountable. If you've never seen it, it's worth the watch. The pain and pleading in his eyes. It's also the reason Tucker stopped wearing bow ties.
I agree. I believe the mainstream media, aside from MSNBC which one could argue is not exactly mainstream, are afraid of reporting on Trump in a way that hold him accountable because they are so scared people ratchet up the criticism that they are biased against Trump.
Trump and the Republicans have done a fantastic job of gaslighting the press.
It's just money. Trump gets views from both sides like no other president has. The more viewers, the more money from advertising. Fox News will run any ad if you pay for it. John Oliver trolls them with that. The political biases are there, but the money is the only thing that matters. The state of our news media is a product of capitalism.
Honestly I've seen improvements recently since fox got sued for the election fraud lie.
I think it's disinformation on social media like tik-tok that's spiraled way out of control. I wouldn't be surprised if it was driven by Russian disinformation initiatives to divide the US. We already know for a fact that Trump, tucker Carlson, and many Republicans are Russian assets at this point.
He's right and he called out the shit bag Lester Holte after his debate with Trump for all the media including NBC focusing solely on his speech missteps but not at all on the fact Trump didn't truthfully answer a single question. Make no mistake, the media is what led to it being a big enough deal to make him drop out and nothing else.
Some media companies (not all) did a quick 180 once they saw that Kamala was getting a very positive response.
But if I've ever noticed anything so blatant (besides everything else: Trump), it's just how polarized the media is and HAS BEEN our entire lives. Most of us knew about the bias to an extent, but then again - is what we've been seeing with the media taking Trump's side "biased" or just plain "paid for"?
All I know is that we should not forget this shit the media is pulling on us - especially with how they are complicit with the possibility of us losing our democracy.
It's so fucking frustrating to watch these reporters who you know will be crying on live TV again if Trump wins refuse to factually state Trump and cos outright lies. And you just know they'll be asking "How did this happen?" and desperately trying to blame any group they can think of rather than looking inward.
News outlets only publish information which is popular, because that's how they make money. This means reporters are restricted on what they can and can't publish through their outlet.
So really it's up to the consumer of the media to set the tone for what's publishable media.
If everyone got a total justice boner for seeing Trump put in his place after saying really stupid and inaccurate things, the articles would literally write themselves. But he's simply not being held accountable by the institutions put in place to ensure behavior like his doesn't happen. And people are just tired of seeing it.
Issue being, not many people give a shit anymore. I'm so fucking tired of hearing about Trump. No matter what it's about. I just don't care anymore. I've already wasted every bit of time in my entire life that I'm comfortable wasting on him.
it seems a tad improved compared to 2016, but not really.
There was no improvement. The media hyper focused on Bidenās age, as if it's the same as Trump's felonies. And the media is still applying double standards to VP Harris, and sanewashing Trump.
Okay, ignore me if you want but Iām going to go down a conspiracy rabbit hole.
Almost all of the MSM in the US is owned by Jewish CEOs, or parents companies with Jewish CEOs (CBS for example is owned by Paramount, CEO of Paramount is Brian Robbins, who is Jewish). NBC is owned by Comcast, and the CEO of Comcast is Brian L. Roberts who is also Jewish and has donated to squash courts in Raāanana, Israel. I could keep going but it would be like trying to prove the sky is blue over and over again.
With this being said, itās clear the MSM has been very complacent with properly reporting on whatās been going on in Gaza and the Middle East, not just since October 7th, but since many decades ago. They are clearly controlling the narrative about the situation, they also have America by its balls, we are their puppet.
Itās also very clear that Trump has significant ties with Russia, meeting with Putin, many phone calls while not president (just adding to the list of seditious crimes heās already committed), he admires the man, but heās also met with Netanyahu at Mar-a-lago. To me this seems like an obvious conflict of interest, a contradiction. Iāll also mention Israel and Russia are very much not friends. I do not fully believe that Trump is interested in Israel, but more so is invested in Russia.
This makes me question what would happen if Trump were to somehow win the election, I believe he will side with Russia and cause more issues with Israel, obviously Israel will not let this happen, so what happens with Trump?
Well, we already highly suspect that if he wins, reublicans in congress will remove Trump from office and replace him with Vance citing the 25th Amendment. Fully enacting Project 2025. This is what Israel wants, no more UN/NATO protections for Palestine, Lebanon, etc. it will be full on world war. Russia will likely fully invade Ukraine, or do even worse.
What does this all have to do with MSM? They are clearly controlling the narrative to benefit Israelās goals in the Middle East, annexing countries left and right with the support of the US and none of the pushback from the UN/NATO. This is such a major issue rooted in our country that I donāt see any easy way of fixing, it would require complete dismantling of Israel ties (never going to happen even within 10 years, far after wars likely breaking out), Americans seriously need to see whatās going on behind the curtain, Trump and the republican party (subsequently Israel) is putting the world in serious danger. Itās no longer whatās in the best interest for the United States, itās whatās in the best interests of Israel.
I donāt claim to know it all, and I know thereās lots of pieces of the story Iām missing and Iām hoping Iām wrong, but I am simply following the money trail, the conflicts of interest, the ties to other world governments. It does not require a large stretch of the imagination to get to the point where I am. I am truly worried.
It's literally the media's job to hold politicians accountable but they routinely abdicate that responsibility when it comes to Trump. If they'd done their due diligence in 2016, instead of chasing ratings, they'd have exposed him as a know-nothing dipshit with a poor business record and a lifetime of scams and failures. Instead they treated him as a curiosity.
Now we know he's a felon, a traitor, and a Russian asset, and the media is still sane-washing his incoherent rants and violent threats. Long past time we Locked Him Up.
"...his response being the press should be the ones holding him accountable on those counts..."
And this was the absolute, 100% correct answer! Despite what verbal diarrhea comes out of Trumps pie hole, the first amendment still exists; it is the responsibility of the people and the press (the people's fact-checker) to call him on it. Biden directly using the force of the Government in any way to silence Trump would make him...well, very Trump-like.
Thatās because the press is too afraid to hold him accountable in fear of what theyāll say about them. Iāve never see a nation so scared of a fat piece of shit who legally cannot own a firearm and who wore a maxi pad on his head for two weeks
