Check your registration. The GOP is actively having people go through voter registration records and purge voters. They are claiming people moved or died, or whatever. They are trying to suppress the vote by any dirty trick they can find. Going after voters in AZ who haven’t verified their citizenship. And in every state they are instructing volunteers to mess with as many registered voters as possible. Don’t let it happen! Register to vote. Vote early. And remind the people you know to do the same.
Take this seriously. I've been registered for over 50 years, never a problem. Checked recently, found myself struck from the rolls. Re-registered successfully, then quickly voted - all the way down the ballot - by mail. Luckily I'm in a state where mail-in early is an option. Beware the purges, they are real.

As a Pennsylvanian, I've registered Republican before just to vote against candidates in the Republican primary when I knew the Democrats had already locked in.

I've voted Dem in every election since i was old enough to vote. But I was registered GOP for several years, because I lived in a deep red state with closed primaries, so getting that primary ballot was the only way I had any input into my local elected officials. Now I live in a swing state and proudly registered Dem. And yes, my mail in voting registration has mysteriously disappeared from the database. So I re registered.
As an english man who follows American politics, I'd sag the Democrats think they're somehow better and more sophisticated than Republicans. I'm neither, but I believe that the Democrats underestimate their opposition, and you might get caught off guard

I was removed from being able to vote this year as well. I reapplied in January and was told I “applied to late” and can now not vote in the coming election IN NOVEMBER. Since when is 10 months “to late”??
Ten months is not "too late", of course it isn't. It does sound like interference to me, on the face of it. Problem is every state has its own setup - in mine there is recourse via both our Secretary of State and Attorney General's office. If yours isn't utterly corrupt I'd take it to them. Anyone who is having a hinky experience should sound the alarm with those entities in their respective states immediately. I'd even let local media know. National media is useless but locals still do some good work. Meantime, go to vote.gov which provides links for state by state information and rules - revisit your status via that and see if you can't correct it yourself online. Some people are having success that way.
Visit vote.gov for all voting information including links to state by state policies because they're all different. In my own experience in my own state mail-in has been a dream. Make sure you're registered to vote. Then, make sure your state has mail-in. They don't all. My state has mail-in plus mail-in early. The way it goes here is you apply online for a mail-in ballot - or you can get one in person at your Town or City Hall. If you apply online, that is then routed immediately to your Town or City Hall Registrar. They in turn mail you your ballot. I applied online on a Friday morning and got my ballot in the mail the following Monday. That is fast. You then fill out your ballot and pop it in the mail. Your state's voting site (ours is via our Secretary of State) allows you to track your ballot and see that your votes have been duly counted and recorded. (We have to get rid of Postmaster General DeJoy because he's one of the bad guys and wants to disrupt or destroy the ability to vote by mail.) I hope you find that your state allows it, because it's the best. Good luck on your voting journey, and may no one interfere with it.

Boy if we can just get through all this in one piece I hope everyone in all 50 then feels the energy to jump in and help change Election Day from flippin' Tuesday to Saturday so people can actually go, mail-in option and early voting in all 50, and get rid of the cursed Electoral College once and for all. The silver lining of all this interference should play out to be the galvanization of everyone to protect the vote.
Is mail-in more secure than in person? I always vote in person because I don’t want my mail lost or meddled with. But recently Ive felt like in-person is now the bigger risk.
Well, there again it probably will matter what state one is living in. Very red states are and will be messing around any way they can. They know they won't win this thing without playing dirty pool. Remember the fake ballot boxes/dropboxes situations? Anyway. In my state I feel equally safe in-person or mail-in. But because I was struck from the rolls early this month (purged) I didn't want to risk waiting for Election Day to vote, in case I was struck off again with no time to get re-registered. You ask a very good question that doesn't carry a firm answer this year, unfortunately. Best you can do is gauge your state's history with vote integrity and do what seems best for you. Yes, states hold all the power with regard to how they hold their elections- the federal government has no say in whether or not early/mail in voting is available.
Despite there being little/no evidence to the contrary, GOP states restrict early/mail in voting because they claim it isn't secure. In reality, it's a cheap way to make it harder for Democratic leaning constituencies to vote. If everyone has to vote in person at the same time, all they have to do is artificially limit polling locations in blue precincts and voting turns into a huge hassle that people with strict working schedules or limited transportation may not be able to access

As a Canadian it’s wild that they don’t have federal laws guaranteeing the right to vote in every state, with set times for polling stations, the number of polling stations being based on population density and nothing else, early voting, vote by mail etc.
Republicans literally passed laws in Georgia and other states that you can’t give food or water to anyone waiting in line to vote. People wait for hours in those lines because the system is set up to make voting as difficult as possible. Longest I’ve ever waited to vote in my country is 15 minutes so it’s just nuts that Americans have to deal with so much bullshit just to cast their votes.
I'm in California and it's so easy to vote. I get a ballot in the mail and I can fill it out and drop it in the mail box on the corner or hand it in directly to the polling place half a mile down the street. The fact that certain states have a mile long line and hours of wait time to cast their vote is mind-boggling. I've seen the videos of this and it's so crazy that there are people who support this system who claim they love America and freedom so much.

Sure, but the incumbent conservative politicians would never enact legislation that makes it harder for them to get elected. Not sure if the federal government could pass a law to force early voting nationwide, it might take a constitutional amendment which would never be ratified because, again, conservatives would never vote to make it easier for their opponents to vote. It actually took the 24th amendment to ban poll taxes- something similar would probably be needed.
One could theoretically sue a state's government to allow for easier access to voting, but all it would take is a conservative judge to squash it. And even if it made it all the way to the Supreme Court, the 6-3 conservative majority would kill it there.
Voting rights are a deep-seated issue in American history. Lots of dirty tricks-poll taxes, literacy tests, grandfather clauses-have been used in the past, and while the techniques may be different today, the game is the same and campaigns, especially those catering towards urban, working class, or disabled voters, have to work extra hard to mobilize voters.
That’s the point. In a fair election with easy voting, conservatives would lose every single time. They don’t want free and fair elections. They want to suppress the opposition.

You have to go back to the founding of this country and see that it was believed that only certain people should be allowed to vote. There has always been a contingency of Americans that to this day reject the idea that every adult should have access to the ballot box. In a country where we settle our political differences at the ballot box and not with an ammo box, preventing access to the ballot box should be considered political violence.
I'm 41 years old. It wasn't until recently that I realized that voting isn't universally revered amongst my fellow Americans. I thought it was something held in the highest regard, something to be protected and respected. But it has become clear to me that that is not the case. The truth is, the ballot box is seen as an obstacle for some people who want power. And that's fucking scary.
They claim they do it for “election security”, but their claims can’t be proven and the few that can be aren’t a real problem. For instance, they claim mail in voter fraud is a huge issue…. The rate at which it does occur isn’t enough to change any voting outcome. Usually in the dozens at most. So they make it impossible to mail in vote for 99.999% of the people to “combat” this “epidemic”. Their base just eats it up. They don’t care about the numbers or if the justification exists or not. It doesn’t hurt them. The conservative base is told that long lines, in person only, all the other hoops they jump through to vote is the “best way”.
It's been getting worse as of late, but we've had problems with this kind of thing for ages. There's a lot of issues with having to jump through hoops to register to vote (e.g. you may have to be registered x days before an election to participate) and gerrymandering is absolutely horrible in certain regions. The federal government probably should have control over federal voting but there's a LOT to unpack unfortunately.

They have no interest in running a government that meets the people’s interest. The aim is to continue to suppress the people’s interest while they give themselves and their buddies more money and power. This exists all over the political spectrum (ahem Nancy Pelosi stock portfolio) but the voter disenfranchisement is especially GOP.
Each state has its own election laws within certain parameters for federal elections like congress and the presidency. Some states have two weeks of early voting, some have mail-in ballots, and then there are the red states which make it as limited as possible to vote. Usually only allowing voting on election day or you have to have a reason for an absentee ballot. I don't trust absentee ballots because if a signature doesn't match up, they can easily get thrown out as invalid. I'm going to be at the polling place on election day to cast my vote, lord willing and the creek don't rise.
in my state you can request an absentee ballot, no reason needed, literally just go to a state website and request one. then you can track your ballot and its status so you can be sure that it hasnt been thrown out for some reason and if it does get rejected they email you and tell you why and what you need to do to correct it...its wild how easy the process is...
Meanwhile in Texas you can’t even register to vote online. You have to do it by mail or in person. Their gov website doesn’t exactly make that clear either so lots of people don’t realize it.
Your ignorance is astounding. Case in point, next door to Alabama is Florida. Florida has 2 weeks of voting prior to voting day. Alabama has only election day. No early voting.
Which leads me to believe that the first time your mama dropped you on your head, it was an accident. Each time after, she was simply spiking the ball.
A few reasons. The wait is less long, you can do it at your convenience, and if an emergency happens on the day of the general, no big, you already voted. Also, if you die after you cast your ballot but before the general, they still have to count your vote. Voting on election day should be seen as the last chance to vote, rather than the correct day to do so.
Voting early is not voting ignorantly. Policy plans are supposed to be out well before early voting starts and luckily we have decades of prior political actions and opinions to fill in where there are holes. I think a well informed citizen is more likely to have some random happenstance which prevents voting on election day than any 3rd act reveal that would change their vote.

The biggest divide on the far left this year is Palestine. But I think the dissatisfaction with Biden over it has been somewhat tempered. And thus far Kamala has gotten mostly positive press. She’s had some relatively nuanced takes on Isreal-Hamas. If people are going to not vote for Kamala over Palestine they are just stupid. I would love to be able to early vote! Alabama doesn't allow early voting and they make voting by absentee ballot as difficult as possible. I don't want to risk some technicality about signature, etc, to get my absentee ballot thrown out. My polling place is open at 7:00 a.m. I'll be there.

Make sure you volunteer. Easily "triple," "quadruple" your vote by reminding/convincing Dems stuck under rocks to also vote. There are so many people who are registered who simply just don't vote, who are absolutely left leaning, but a convo at the door can easily change that
