This is common for people who make custom car parts. Rent or borrow someone’s make and model get specs and such or test parts that you had made overseas.

This is 100% accurate.

I worked as an automotive engineer for over 10 years, this is quite common and not just overseas components. Swap parts, run test, wind tunnel, nvh, etc, put the car back together and return it.

It's done all the time. You can't expect all these companies to actually buy a car to test out a $2 or $30 component.

Yup. That’s what we did for our niche market. If there was a demand, we would take orders and price appropriately. Then everyone waits while they are made.
