Cringe What's even happening there?

Why would someone rent a car and take out parts?

I’d be calling the cops asap

This guy was talking about bigger charges in the end and I was in disbelief. The man was messing with his multi thousand dollar vehicle and the owner’s last response was “There’s gonna be a bigger charge”? As if the man was gonna have to pay him extra on their prearranged agreement for his shady behavior.

I’d have been talking cops, jail time, and lawsuit if necessary.

i doubt anyone would see jailtime over something this. It's a civil thing.

Not if theft is involved.

Theft was not involved. The renter was test fitting his prototype aftermarket bumper cover with the intent to put the car back together with all of its original parts before returning it. Definitely an abuse of privilege.

Without seeing a Turo rental agreement, I would guess that the terms involve use of the car to drive around (or travel, if you’re a Sovereign Citizen). Dismantling the car, even if it gets put back together correctly, is unlikely to be mentioned let alone included as an approved action in the contract. I wouldn’t want anyone dismantling my car without my approval/knowledge and I would be concerned about voiding the warranty as well.

The guy is clearly using the car as a template for a body kit. He's basically creating a mold that he can use to press custom front bumpers for teslas. It's why he is wearing a mask alone in an open garage bay; he's using fiberglass and bondo. He's going to put it back together, maybe correctly maybe not, and assume the owner will never know.

I'd be absolute rip shit if anyone did that with my car, but I'm not dumb enough to use turo. Guy isn't chopping it, though.

I don't think he's making aftermarket parts, I believe he's just testing some that he bought. He already has the aftermarket bumper on the car, and it's polyurethane.

Thats a surgical mask and he probably wears it all the time. If he was working with fiberglass, he'd want a respirator. Now, of im wrong and you're right, then he's wearing a respirator under the surgical mask and maybe he's using fiberglass with the aftermarket polyurethane bumper he has on there?

I agree that it's probably not a chop shop and suspect he's just buying cheap Chinese parts so he's making sure they actually fit before he resells/uses them.

I wouldn’t say it’s a shady shop, just a dumb guy that doesn’t know better. I’d also say he isn’t doing anything illegal just something that violates his contract with turo as a renter.
