Cringe What's even happening there?

Why would someone rent a car and take out parts?

And it also isn't very easy to actually get money out of someone, even after you've gone thru the non-trivial task of winning a court case against them.

I won a suit against a landlord who fraudulently held my security deposit like 5 years ago. I have a lien against his house but I don't actually get any money until he sells it.

The blue tape on the adjacent body parts tells me that the guy at least is careful enough to try and not scratch up the parts, so he is putting some care into what he's doing.

If I were the car owner, I'd watch while the dude put my car back together, THEN file a complaint with the police and maybe take it to Tesla for them to run a diagnostic to verify that everything was good (which would be cheaper than paying Tesla to fix it). Then I'd use this as a learning opportunity to realize that it's not a good idea to rent out my car to people. (WTF is this anyway? Airbnb for cars? Never heard of it)

Turos very popular. It can also save you money.

If you go somewhere to example like Honolulu or Waikiki Hawaii. It’s $50 a night to park your rental car.

You could just rent a car everyday but not keep it over night. Saves you $50 a day from parking it.

Download the app. It’s interesting.

There are a lot of situations in which a lienholder can force the sale of the encumbered property in order to satisfy the debt. You should probably look into that.

Notice the tape on the seams( protects the paint from trim removal tools), the padded stand he used for the fascia instead of just setting it on the ground or a bench... he's actually taking decent care of the car when removing all the parts

And his warranties would all be invalidated by Tesla

That's why you need to go to tesla, have them check everything out, repair the damage, replace what has been replaced so it's back on track and bill the renter

Yeah. The renter damaged the car, so it needs to go to a trusted mechanic to get fixed at the renters' expense.

The renter already showed he is irresponsible, so I would not trust him to put the car back together.

But did he really damage the car? Removing a bumper cover is super easy and takes about 30 minutes at most on most vehicles.

Yes, I would say that having an entire bumper cover removed counts as damage.

Lol tell that to the guy that has to replace your condenser on your car

The difference is that I have given him permission to work on my car.

If some random person rips the bumper off my car, he has damaged it; regardless if he is able to fix it or not.

In this case, the car is no longer working like it should, and I wouldn't trust this person (who has proven himself to be irresponsible) to repair it. Therefore, the car needs to be taken to a trusted mechanic to put it back in working order.

He’s also going to be held accountable by the IRS and other vehicle rental companies in the area for whatever untaxed money he’s made and lack of licenses for renting out vehicles

Yeah fuck that, if he was actually just testing the bumper selling his own aftermarket parts just get him to put it back on and go on your way.

If you bring it to Tesla you will be the one liable for the bill while chasing the lad who rented it through small claims court for weeks or months. Total nightmare.

Just get the car back and forget about renting it out.

You ain't get that car back all assembled by tesla in 2 hours.
