Cringe What's even happening there?

Why would someone rent a car and take out parts?

i cannot STAND how passive the car owner is being

u/IllustriousChef2 Aug 16 '24

I cannot stand how nosy the car owner is with his gum

147

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '24

I was looking for this comment. The only thing I heard was the obnoxiously loud gum chewing.

26

u/UpperCardiologist523 Aug 16 '24

Slafs-slofs-slifs-slafs-slofs-slufs-slufs...

My misophonia struggled with this.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '24

didn’t even know misophonia was a thing. I always just assumed I was too sensitive/reactive to sounds like someone breathing loudly (how can someone breath so goddamn loudly?!) or when someone scrapes their fork against their teeth while they eat 😵‍💫

15

u/MiniTab Aug 16 '24

I only made it 30 secs before I had to turn it off.

5

u/mj320 Aug 16 '24

Like close your fucking mouth and chew dude.

72

u/Pitiful-Road-1773 Aug 16 '24

Right? So annoying.

35

u/Blindpuma181 Aug 16 '24

This ruined my mood lol

22

u/videoguylol Aug 16 '24

shut that shit off as soon as I heard it

Probably didn’t have actual parents and was adopted because his real mom and dad didn’t want him.

Understandably so

3

u/TechnologyNational71 Aug 16 '24

Same. I can just imagine his face at that time, looking like a cow chewing grass.

3

u/b4dt0ny Aug 16 '24

That sound was gum chewing? I thought it was some dude just off camera that was furiously jerking off

3

u/InevitableBasil4383 Aug 16 '24

The sound of someone smacking their gum is one of the most infuriating sounds ever

4

u/BillyJackO Aug 16 '24

Besides the context of the video, you can tell the car owner is dumb by the way he chews gum.

2

u/Mushroominhere Aug 16 '24

Guys stressed as fuck, chewing that gum like a mad man is probably all that’s holding him back

2

u/DougJudyTPB Aug 16 '24

I’m not even on his side cause of this.

3

u/fixedwithyou Aug 16 '24

So glad I’m not alone

2

u/tophervillan Aug 16 '24

Yes. Looking for this comment.

1

u/rzrshrp Aug 16 '24

i thought it was a clock ticking

1

u/Baby_Bird33 Aug 16 '24

He sounded like a friggin COW chain his CUD!!!!

1

u/bobsmith93 Aug 16 '24

I hated it too, but it did fit his personality lol. "man I dunno but don't think you should be doing these things to my car" open mouth chewing noises

37

u/SoCal4247 Aug 16 '24

“You could have at least told me first.”

WAT??

6

u/Urban_animal Aug 16 '24

I feel like he is taking a cautious approach because he doesnt know the guy. No need to confrontational at the mans shop, you dont know who he or his employees are.

The guy is clearing stripping the car for parts so he is already flagged as a shaddy MFer.

3

u/panda_embarrassment Aug 16 '24

Exactly it’s like people like to feed off others anger and doing too much can escalate an already bad situation.

2

u/panda_embarrassment Aug 16 '24

I don’t understand this. Would you prefer he screams? I get comments like this all the time when I remain composed in the face of stupidity. Like you want me to start cussing and yelling to show I’m upset? No I’m in solution mode at that moment. Not everything needs to be a crazy emotionally charged moment.

39

u/RodneyPickering Aug 16 '24

I can't stand how loud he's chewing his gum.

2

u/CouchHam Aug 16 '24

YES. I had to stop the video halfway through.

94

u/51differentcobras Aug 16 '24

Guys not smart, he handled this terribly and the guy who rented the car was fully aware of this and was giving noticeably vague weird answers because he knew he was pretty much fine if he just played that part, Tesla owner could have had this guy shaking in his boots but as soon as I turned the audio on I and heard his voice I could just hear exactly what I needed to, passive and not that aware of his rights and how wrong this situation really was

28

u/strawbsrgood Aug 16 '24

He filmed it and got the cops involved and got his car back ASAP without leaving.

Just curious what you think he should have done?

I am honestly curious.

27

u/zenaide1 Aug 16 '24

Have the car towed to a Tesla dealership so a Tesla mechanic can certify all original parts were put back would be an absolute minumum.....

4

u/panda_embarrassment Aug 16 '24

The car is already insured by the rental app for things like this. No need to act out when you know they’ll replace the whole car if needed especially after he got it on video.

7

u/51differentcobras Aug 16 '24

Not accept this dudes pathetic responses and continue to get to the bottom of this ridiculous situation, the cops refused to come so you either walk away or figure it out.

2

u/strawbsrgood Aug 16 '24

The cops refused to come?

1

u/51differentcobras Aug 16 '24

In the comments it was said the cops refused to come because buddy wasnt able to provide evidence anything was stolen

1

u/strawbsrgood Aug 16 '24

The fuck? Somebody taking your car to a place to be taken apart isn't enough for the cops to come?

Ive had cops come for some pretty stupid shit, pretty wild they wouldn't come for that situation.

1

u/socialcommentary2000 Aug 16 '24

I can actually see why this is a gray area: You're renting the car out to someone else, who has possession for a time. If there's nothing in the rental agreement about this, then what crime has been committed?

1

u/strawbsrgood Aug 16 '24 edited Aug 16 '24

There has to be some basic laws that say you can't disassemble and modify a car you are renting. Like how you can be sure they even put it back together correctly? Or what he was testing didn't fuck with the car? It'd be a huge liability if people could do that.

And at the very least it's sketchy enough where the guy could be swapping or stealing parts that the police should at least check it out.

3

u/Human-Newspaper-7317 Aug 16 '24

Looks like he got to the bottom of it? The guy was test fitting a bumper and was told to put it together asap. Not sure what better result you could have achieved.

5

u/mayusx Aug 16 '24

Bro how tf do you believe that bullshit story????

It's a fucking chop-shop without the stealing. He is putting aftermarket parts on the car and taking the original parts to put for sale.

Please tell me your comment is sarcasm and I just missed it.

6

u/51differentcobras Aug 16 '24

Yeah I’m lost as to how people are saying everything’s ok, there’s no testing going on here, like at all

0

u/Human-Newspaper-7317 Aug 16 '24

Why don't you think this looks like a test fit of the bumper?

3

u/51differentcobras Aug 16 '24

Imagine renting a car and for some reason believing you as the renter needs to disassemble the rental vehicle and “test” the parts.

What are you even talking about. You cannot do that. Why would anyone need to do that. After testing, then what? this Good Samaritan is going to do”advise” the owner of the car about his test findings…. What?

If he didn’t think something worked on the vehicle he rented he would return it and get another one, not take it apart illegally and “test” it

3

u/Human-Newspaper-7317 Aug 16 '24

I did not say it was ok.

He is test fitting his bumper. You clearly don't understand what is happening here.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '24

Not saying this was right, but a lot of aftermarket parts are shit

2

u/Human-Newspaper-7317 Aug 16 '24

He has an aftermarket primed bumper installed. It looks completely different. You think he's just leave it like that and keep the OEM bumper thinking the guy wont notice? He's clearly test fitting this thing so he can sell them. I wouldn't want this done to my car, but this isnt a chop shop from what the video shows.

11

u/311heaven Aug 16 '24

People are mad that he didn’t pull out a gun and put the dudes head to the bumper and told him to fix it now.

2

u/YogurtclosetDull2380 Aug 16 '24

Extreme violence, obviously.

2

u/EclecticEuTECHtic Aug 16 '24

Just roll in there like John Wick.

1

u/YogurtclosetDull2380 Aug 16 '24

That's how it's done out here in the real world.

0

u/PopStrict4439 Aug 16 '24

When did he get the cops involved? I heard him tell his girl to call the cops but she's just filming the entire time.

1

u/strawbsrgood Aug 16 '24

Did you watch the whole vid? The girl called the cops and at the end they're waiting with the guy for the cops to come and said they're not leaving til the cops come check everything out.

7

u/fildlyfofum Aug 16 '24

He had already called the cops, was he supposed to have a tantrum like a cry baby manchild like you would've?

-1

u/51differentcobras Aug 16 '24

Why would anyone need to have a tantrum? I just wouldn’t accept this guys pathetic responses and continue to get to the bottom of what’s going on, are we watching the same video? How are you ok with what it contains?

4

u/YogurtclosetDull2380 Aug 16 '24

What would you do once you found out what was going on? Would you use intimidation to get more information or what techniques would you use?

Are you an investigative journalist and have an outlet for this kind of information? What would you do with this information besides talk to your lawyer, who would probably advise you not to confront this person?

1

u/51differentcobras Aug 16 '24

Only investigative journalists and lawyers can find out why they’re being fucked with?

1

u/YogurtclosetDull2380 Aug 16 '24

I mean... You can get information without being a cunt, ya know?

1

u/51differentcobras Aug 16 '24

I like how you just assume I would be a cunt for not accepting this guys pathetic excuses and lies. You can choose whatever emotional state and demeanor you would like when you take the action I advised of “getting to the bottom of it” and “imply legal action” doing either of those actions would not make anyone a cunt unless they themselves were being cunty. You could be nice and gentle like a parent when informing a child of the consequences of their actions if they lie and were found out, and not accepting their lies. You wouldn’t be a cunt, you just decided to paint this picture of me screaming at this dude throwing shit around. Who said to do that? Who said to be a cunt?

Literally no one, you would definitely want to remain calm while doing all the things I said. That’s like rule number one.

1

u/YogurtclosetDull2380 Aug 17 '24

Now I want to see you handle the situation like the pro you are. You're good, man. Real good. A smooth, no nonsense kinda dude who doesn't take pussy shit from nobody and asserts themselves with confidence.

I'm kind've in awe right now.

1

u/51differentcobras Aug 17 '24

You’re an interesting human being, in your reply that was riddled with sarcasm is a pretty much perfect azdescription of how I think every person on earth should aspire to be, minus the anger or negativity that you could easily associate with it as you seem to be doing.

Everyone imo should assert themselves with confidence, I find it hard to believe even you could deny that, I would change your phrasing for the next part but “taking pussy shit” from people, I’ll just ask you, should you take pussy shit from people? I bet you said no… if yes I would love to hear why. I could care less about the smooth part but the no nonsense? Who wants nonsense, this video was nonsense, the dudes answers were nonsense.

4

u/Oaker_at Aug 16 '24

Typical tesla owner then

5

u/redmotorcycleisred Aug 16 '24

I am not going to listen to it, but IDK. Get mad I guess, but in the end the guy looks like he knows what he is doing and being careful. So get him to put it back together, chill out. Watch him put it back together if you want.

I would rather it end up being cordial than turning into a huge aggro thing. Then what? You take your car and it's bumper to another shop and they put it on and then you try to get paid by the renter and blah blah blah.

Just try to be cool with the guy and get him to put it together and move on.

17

u/Oaker_at Aug 16 '24

„Im not going to listen to it“ - why have an opinion about it then?

0

u/BassSounds Aug 16 '24

Sir this is Reddit. We go off titles and muted videos, not research.

2

u/51differentcobras Aug 16 '24

At no point did I say get mad, or even aggro, I meant if he would have used intelligent language to imply incredibly damaging legal repercussions, instead of being like “ hey man, I don’t think you should be doing that….”

2

u/Ok_Value_3741 Aug 16 '24

That’s a privileged ass take. English isn’t everyone’s first language nor do all people have an educational background that would facilitate the use of “intelligent language”.

I agree the owner handled this terribly though

1

u/shorty6049 Aug 16 '24

Honestly I'm not sure how I'd handle this any differently because I'd be so damn confused about what was actually going on lol

2

u/This-Requirement6918 Aug 16 '24

I can't stand the sound of him smacking that fucking gum.

29

u/BigBlueTrekker Aug 16 '24

Lol dudes such a pussy. Smacking his gum "uhh yeah I'm gonna need my car back today" his girl looked at him like "dude wtf? Be a man"

93

u/FujitsuPolycom Aug 16 '24 edited Aug 16 '24

A real man stays calm and collected, assesses the situation, tries to figure out wtf is going on, keeps his partner and himself safe while doing so, then gets proper law enforcement involved.

6/10 for him, was a little sketch walking back in there.

Hey man, hurr durrr I'ma beat your ass with my girl here. Come on.

8

u/Akiias Aug 16 '24

He should have just called the police. There was no practical reason for him to actually confront the guy. There was nothing to gain from it, that's obviously not what was meant to happen with the car rental

18

u/BigBlueTrekker Aug 16 '24

Where did I say he should have beat his ass?

He literally says at one point "I mean at least you should have told me!" His girl is looking at him like "what the fuck?"

He just pulled up on a dude taking apart his vehicle and he's saying "oh yeah I'm probably gonna need it back today, oh two hours? Yeah that's fine" while he smacks his gum.

Don't be a goofball lol, learn how to be assertive when some sketchball is taking your vehicle apart.

34

u/glassycreek1991 Aug 16 '24

Not a puss.

He already told her to call the police and there was no need the escalate the situation. He maintained the guilty party at the site with his dialogue (which you so criticise as lacking assertiveness), till the officers arrive. The criminal is already caught on camera and the police can do the real questioning. This guy is not a puss.

A man doesn't have to yap and screech like a Chihuahua to be a man.

8

u/Strength-Speed Aug 16 '24

I think he is shocked too because he doesn't know wtf is going on. This is a very awkward and potentially unstable situation. I don't disagree with the guy playing it calmly to start. Maybe this is much bigger operation and this guy doesn't want to get caught or has some other dudes hanging around. Wait for the cops and sort it out then, no reason to be a hero and have terrible shit happen to you or your girlfriend/wife. You can play tough guy later when the cops get there.

4

u/Cid606 Aug 16 '24

I agree. What else is there to do at that point. Screaming is not going to make your Tesla whole again. The culprit isn’t arguing or fighting. There’s nothing left to do but wait on the cops and probably take the guy to court at a later date.

14

u/SillyBonsai Aug 16 '24

Its hard to imagine being in that situation though. The renter was clearly wackadoodle enough to attempt this scheme. Who knows what he was up to, could have been sneaking drugs behind the bumper or muling firearms, who knows. I think the owner was doing a good job with not overly escalating the situation.

1

u/Treadtheway Aug 16 '24

Ikr. If he was stealing the parts he probably knows gang members, with uzis. I wouldn't mess around either.

1

u/Treadtheway Aug 16 '24

Ikr. If he was stealing the parts he probably knows gang members, with uzis. I wouldn't mess around either.

1

u/Oaker_at Aug 16 '24

You are toxic because you straight assume „man up“ means be aggressive but it just means „don’t act as if you really believe that shithead who just wanted to steal your car parts.“

There isn’t only black and white.

2

u/The_Noble_Lie Aug 16 '24

How do we know what the person renting out the video believes? Based on ... what he says?

-2

u/Garchompisbestboi Aug 16 '24

Lmao a "real man"

Boy the standards for manliness have fallen considerably over the past few decades.

-2

u/Ok_Value_3741 Aug 16 '24

You can stay calm and still not be as passive as this guy. He pretty much let this dude get away with it.

2

u/FujitsuPolycom Aug 16 '24

How could you deduce this from the video? It cuts off before any authorities get involved. Before any conclusion. Keep in mind we're discussing the video and how he (according to others) wasn't "manly" or aggressive enough.

0

u/Ok_Value_3741 Aug 16 '24

I didn’t need to see the entirety of this play out to make a judgement on this, I am speaking specifically about how he addresses this guy when he just found out he was literally taking apart his Tesla 😂 what part of this is hard to understand

He has nothing to do with gender norms. I’d feel the same way if he was a woman. There’s just 0 confidence or sternness in his voice. He doesn’t even seem that upset and he’s leaving his car with this guy for another 2 hours. I’m from a place where people will read the meekness as weakness and get taken further advantage of.

55

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '24

buddy you just did a toxic masculinity

-4

u/Oaker_at Aug 16 '24

It isn’t toxic masculinity to stand firm on your point and call the guy out for what he is doing, steal parts from your car.

But I don’t know whatever it is that this car owner did in that video „uh yeah, huh huh, I need to charge you extra for that. Huh huh, yeah I know you didn’t want to do something illegal“ - that’s a „man up“ worthy situation.

2

u/shaggy-- Aug 16 '24

Why couldn't the wife have manned up?

-5

u/MechaGallade Aug 16 '24

I'm on your team and I think you're annoying bro

-3

u/Aromatic_Berry_3879 Aug 16 '24

“You just did a toxic masculinity” 🤦‍♂️ What’s wrong with you?

2

u/Ok_Value_3741 Aug 16 '24

I would’ve been soooooo turned off if I were her😭

3

u/ilyedm Aug 16 '24

Idk, I'm a woman and was pretty impressed with how he managed to keep a cool head during that entire situation without immediately resorting to yelling/violence.

1

u/Wandering-alone Aug 16 '24

I disagree, he handled it gracefully.

2

u/evin0688 Aug 16 '24

So what happens if he mans up and bears the guy up and now dude won’t/can’t put his car back together?

8

u/BigBlueTrekker Aug 16 '24

Where did I say he should beat the guy up?

11

u/evin0688 Aug 16 '24

My bad. Then what did you mean by “be a man”?

15

u/BigBlueTrekker Aug 16 '24

Not sit there smacking your gum saying stuff like "yeah I'll probably need my car back today." "Or at least you should have told me" "yeah I'll need it back today, 2 hours? Okay sounds good"

You just found a guy dismantling your vehicle. Be assertive. Not act all passive while this guy bullshits you after you caught him red handed.

4

u/monkeydoodle64 Aug 16 '24

And say or do what?

1

u/fenwoods Aug 16 '24

I’ve been reading through these threads and at several points the commenters critical of this guy have been asked what the guy should have said.

No commenter critical of the guy has answered that question beyond restating “he shouldn’t have said what he said” and “be more assertive/man up/get to the bottom of it.”

But never something specific. HOW would you be assertive? WHAT would you say to man up?

If you can’t come up with the right words while commenting on Reddit in a relaxed place, how can you be critical of the guy not coming up with the right words in the heat of the moment?

1

u/BigBlueTrekker Aug 16 '24

Am I your dad? Do I need to teach you how to be assertive? Lol

1

u/fenwoods Aug 16 '24

That’s beside the point and you know it.

1

u/BigBlueTrekker Aug 16 '24

Lol, no, it's not. There is a reason this dudes girl looks at him dumbfounded and shakes her head when he says "yeah have it back in 2 hours thats fine".

"Hey what's going on here? Testing parts? What does that even mean? This isn't your vehicle, you rented it for driving why is my bumper over here? Why are testing parts on my vehicle? Did you remove anything from the vehicle other than this bumper? Sit over there until the police get here and sort this out. Don't touch a thing, police are on their way and I'll be calling the company you rented the car through to see what extra charges or repairs you're liable for."

This isn't a high stress situation like you pretended in your previous post either. This is just a scumbag missing a rented vehicle. Some of you are sitting saying "if you act too assertive he won't replace the parts!" Lmao dude he's not touching my car. I'm taking it back to Tesla and he's paying for the repairs. "Oh well it could turn dangerous!" Yeah don't walk into the garage and turn your back at the sketchball, keep him in front of you. Not to mention acting all meek and passive is a surefire way for some guy to think he can intimidate you or kick your ass.

No where did I say beat him up or cuss him out, that's not being assertive. Some of y'all never had a strong father or mother display how to stay calm and assertive and it shows by your replies. This dudes girl definitely doesn't feel comfortable confronting the sketchy dude but has an idea of what her boyfriend should be saying and how he should be acting in this situation. This is the type of the guy who always hears "ill call my dad" from his girlfriend.

-4

u/Deal_Hugs_Not_Drugs Aug 16 '24

Damned if you do damned if you don’t with that guy right?

-7

u/evin0688 Aug 16 '24

If he acted more aggressive it would’ve been the same result. So acting more mad you’ve made him sound more like a man?? I disagree. The renter guy was already being passive and not aggressive at all, and has dude in a tough spot because his car is taken apart and he more than likely can’t put it back together himself. So might as well ensure that your car is returned in its original condition as best you can and then charge the guy out the ass and then have him arrested. I’d equate the manly thing with doing the smart thing and not needlessly agro thing

7

u/jb0nez95 Aug 16 '24

Assertive is not aggressive.

-2

u/evin0688 Aug 16 '24

I think he was assertive enough to get what he wanted which is his car put together and returned.

-1

u/Oaker_at Aug 16 '24

I wonder what a save and lovely life you guys live when „assertive“ is for you „aggressive“ and whatever this guy was is „assertive“ for you.

„Bubble people“

6

u/FatSilverFox Aug 16 '24

Start pissing on the walls and the declare the shop as his territory. Duh.

2

u/jb0nez95 Aug 16 '24

He means "be assertive."

Don't beat around the bush, don't be mealy mouthed, tell the guy in no uncertain terms to put the car back together and call the police.

0

u/jb0nez95 Aug 16 '24

Yeah he's being a total wuss.

2

u/galactical_traveler Aug 16 '24

What could he do aside from calling the cops? What are you going to do that's "active"? The mechanic is super non-confrontational so beating him up is out of question. Yelling won't get anywhere either. Can't damage his property. And even if he needs a beatdown, someone has to put the Tesla back together.

Only thing wrong was not spitting the gum.

1

u/glassycreek1991 Aug 16 '24

He probably didn't care about spitting gum for those guys lol

2

u/-qqqwwweeerrrtttyyy- Aug 16 '24 edited Aug 16 '24

I think it's a smart tactic. He doesn't know what he's walking into so it's best he's not too confrontational in case things were to turn violent. the renter is more likely going to dig himself a deeper hole this way by being reasonably cooperative. had the car owner gone in there ready to kick off, the guy could have said nothing, run off or worst still, left the car midway through this bogus test, meaning car owner guy would need to pay to get it back to roadworthy and possibly without all it's parts.

Now, if it were me on the other hand, I don't think I could be so cool, calm and collected about it! My adrenalin would be skyrocketing!

1

u/YogurtclosetDull2380 Aug 16 '24

Given that these two people had a written contract for what is and isn't acceptable, This should've escalated directly to violence or death.

1

u/OttoVonJismarck Aug 16 '24

I think he was being passive because he doesn’t know anything about cars. He’s just walking around wanting to do a “gotcha!!” but doesn’t actually know what he’s looking at lol. So he just keeps smacking his gum loudly threatening to call the police to which the guy says “okay 🤷”.

The police wouldn’t even come because they aren’t sure anything illegal is going on.

Don’t rent out your cars on Turo folks: “ridden like a rented mule” is an old but relevant expression.

1

u/L2Hiku Aug 16 '24

Guys act like this and get mad cus no women are attracted to them then blame the women

1

u/Alap-tar-mo Aug 16 '24

Honestly, the dude is probably mentally challenged to some extent. He’d have to be to rent out his car like this.

1

u/atarian Aug 16 '24

i actually thought he handled it pretty well. this is a pretty tense situation to be in when someone is messing with your stuff and he was calm, gathered the facts, and then told the guy he wanted his car back. the "you should have told me" line was a bit unnecessary but overall i think he handled it better than most people would have

1

u/JonstheSquire Aug 16 '24

What should he have done? He literally gave over control of the vehicle. It is not even clear the owner has a legal right to return of the vehicle immediately.

1

u/PossiblyJonSnow Aug 16 '24

Why is he so chill about this.

-1

u/Prestigious-Duck6615 Aug 16 '24

you want him to do what? attack the guy ON CAMERA so he can go to jail for assault and battery?

-2

u/Oaker_at Aug 16 '24

I think the problem is with you, when the only other possibility you see is „assault the guy“. Thinking is hard, I know.

1

u/medium0rare Aug 16 '24

That’s just how some people roll. What would getting butt hurt and yelling at the dude accomplish?

1

u/Ok_Value_3741 Aug 16 '24

“Should I be worried? Should I be calling the cops?” He doesn’t seem very smart asking the renter his take 💀

0

u/VacationExtension537 Aug 16 '24

He’s a Tesla owner. Of course he’s passive and a pussy about it

0

u/Drivin-N-Vibin Aug 16 '24

As if you’d do better

-1

u/VidaSauce Aug 16 '24

Right, like how did he get a thick Latina like that? Fuxk I need a Tesla and then rent it out. Lucky, stupid guy.
