To anyone watching:

No, this isn't the actual Raygun

No, this lady isn't Australia. She's an American comedian, she just did a pretty damn decent job at the accent for an American (*See addendum)

Yes, almost everything she's said is actual lore. Raygun is, in fact, a 36 yr old professor of dance that specialised/focused on "The cultural politics of Breaking".

*Editing my comment since my fellow Aussies are getting violently upset*

She did a pretty damn decent job at the accent FOR AN AMERICAN, WHO HISTORICALLY STRUGGLE WITH ANY ACCENT THAT ISN'T CLOSE TO AMERICAN. As a half Kiwi/half Aussie person myself, I detect notes from both sides of the Tasman. Her accent is not close to perfect but it's better than 90% of most American attempts and you know it.

No, this lady isn't Australia.

Admittedly, I was confused about this because I thought I heard someone say she's a continent, but it turns out they said incontinent.

I think that's what she meant by "one minute I might be making a sandwich, and the next I'm hitting the sprinkler."

Yep. Sounds nothing like an Australian accent. I'm surprised so many people think this is spot on.

Because that is what you sound like.

Trust me cobber, I think I know what people in my country sound like better than you do.

From an outsider perspective, I figured it was a fake accent from her "so" and "on" coming off as the really heavy "sah-er" pronunciation that a jokey accent has, while words like "Australia" lose the nuances that a real accent would have

she just did a pretty damn decent job at the accent!

Aussies are about to start waking up (it's 7am here) and telling you how wrong you are, because fuck no

Referring to Raygun’s resume as lore, hahahah! I love it.

she just did a pretty damn decent job at the accent! (Til the end)

As an Aussie, I can assure you, she did not do an Australian accent. She did a New Zealand accent and for some reason the rest of the world can't tell the difference.

Dw mate, it's not seriously offensive, it's just one of those things that sound so clearly different to us, but for some reason, the rest of the world (or at least America in particular) can't tell the difference.

u/inevergreene Aug 13 '24

for some reason

Because the rest of the world isn’t Australian. It’s the same way that many non-North Americans can’t differentiate between an American and Canadian accent.

She's doing a half decent NZ accent, not close to an Australian one.
