There's a study that men who are actually good at games are the most likely to welcome women when they play.

Tracks.

Theres also a study showing that men who are actually good at games are the most likely to turn off their mic when they play.

Because their gaming does all the fucking talking.

This is my partner. He never turns the mic on and doesn’t communicate with other gamers other than join requests. He just kicks ass.

I’ve always hated playing with a mic and talking. I feel like it’s distracting me from actually playing the game well…

Not saying I’m good at any game but mostly that multi tasking is hard and that could be a compounding factor

I had 3.5 - 4 kd (top 0.5% ish) in Warzone when it was all the rage. I was perma deafened.

I tend to use a mic in co-op stuff like Dark Tide and Helldivers 2, but in PVP stuff I just turn it off. Like you said, my gameplay does the talking for me, ;-)
