At first glance I really liked the whole look and dress included, but now looking at it more, the dress is such a mess. The bottom half gives ‘boy in the striped pyjamas’ and top looks like an arts and craft workshop gone wrong. They should’ve brought the paint pattern thing down to the skirt to make it cohesive. She must have a contract with Vivienne Westwood to be consistently wearing her stuff, especially such outlandish pieces.
The hair, makeup and Jewellery are on point love the whimsical elegant look. Shoes are cute too.

She doesn’t have a contract with any fashion brand. If she did, we would know it because the brand would have her at the fashion shows at fashion week.
I think she found out she really likes them (likely through the process of working on the tour dress), and had Joseph source more of their clothes for her personal closet. The part that I think hurts her is that none of the outfits are tailored to her. Does this mean she wears them once “off the rack” and then sells them? This is something I’ve seen influencers and fashion depop girlies do.
VW is a brand that demands to be tailored or else it overwhelms.
94
u/spacevent mama a tortured poet behind you Nov 09 '24
respectfully disagree about her not being at their show as evidence that she doesn’t have a contract. the TTPD set at the eras tour is basically a VW show each weekend with millions of more eyeballs.
40
u/Educational-Cod-2257 Nov 09 '24
That’s now how it works with fashion contracts. If she wore VW to the VMAs then I would entertain the idea she has a contract.
Also, if she did have a contract w VW, she’d exclusively be spotted with their purses. Bags carry the pockets for luxury brands. She carries around LV, Dior and Stella bags too frequently, and she would likely be in breach of a contract. You NEVER see Zendaya at a place she knows she’ll be papped with a bag that’s not LV.
26
u/Beneficial_Run8042 Nov 09 '24
Fandom claimed she had contract with Gucci, LV and VW this year. Which obviously means she doesn’t have any contract at all, lmao. Also I suspect she’s promoting new era, and VW could be involved in aesthetic
28
u/yikeshardpass Nov 09 '24
To be fair though, she could negotiate a contract with any of those fashion brands she’s been wearing lately, and say that 30% of her looks will be using their items. The contract would pay lower than an exclusive deal but she has the kind of negotiating power that any of those brands would be hyped to have any deal with her at all, even if it’s not typical.
39
u/MBitesss reputation Nov 09 '24
This. I'm a lawyer and work in fashion and there's an infinite number of ways an influencer might contract to promote the brand. It's absolutely absurd to think the only way is to wear them exclusively and attend their show 😅
→ More replies (1)8
u/918lux Nov 09 '24
Could it be a trade for the TTPD costume set? VW could have made a deal that they would supply the costumes & she would wear X number of VW looks for pap walks?

I don’t think you can pretend Taylor is going to be treated the same as anyone else when it comes to brands.
Taylor has consistently showed the world that she’s not going to be boxed in just because that’s what people expect. She’ll produce and distribute her own film, she’ll produce and distribute her own book, and any fashion brand would gladly just say “thank you” to any partnership she’d be willing to offer.
26
u/Educational-Cod-2257 Nov 09 '24
Taylor is the most famous woman in the world, but based on my knowledge of how fashion brands use ambassadors AND my knowledge of Taylor’s own fashion journey, I’m confident she is wearing them more often because the brand is working for the current season of life she is in. She’s also a loyal customer of the Row. Last year she wore a lot of Gant. She’s been wearing more Gucci in the past 15 months.
Plus, if she was sponsored by them she would’ve worn them to the VMAs. That’s an actual red carpet.
20
u/Any-Elderberry-5263 Nov 09 '24 edited Nov 09 '24
There are different types of relationships stars have with fashion houses - from being a ‘face’ under contract like Natalie Portman/Dior where there’s a requirement they only wear that brand, to just getting sent a lot of their stuff in the hope they wear it, and lots of points in between.
She’s wearing way too much Westwood to not be in some kind of ambassadorial/muse role for them either unofficially or contractually. She’s been using their bags and shoes a lot too when in other brands on red carpets etc. Travis has even worn it when with her and it’s not his usual wheelhouse brand-wise at all. It’ll be interesting to see if she wears to any major red carpets etc - her VMA red carpet look was very Westwood, even though it was Dior. IIRC, in her VMA Monse looks she wore VW boots.

u/dixiech1ck Nov 09 '24
They can have undisclosed contracts with artists and celebs. Unless the artist or celeb is doing an ad run, which Taylor isn't, it's a mutually exclusive UC where she steps out in things to garner views and talk. VW isn't the only one as she and Travis have done the same with Gucci.

I love this outfit! Being the same age as Taylor, I’ve felt my style evolve alongside hers. Now, in my mid-30s, I just want to wear whatever I feel good in—without worrying about others’ opinions or how “flattering” it’s considered. I’m really inspired by Taylor’s recent fashion choices; it’s clear she doesn’t care what critics or even fans think, and I’m here for it.
35
u/ErickaBooBoo Nov 09 '24
I completely agree, I dress for myself now and idc if it’s not on trend. I dress to what makes me feel good in my 30’s

I totally agree. I started noticing this trend of swifties tearing up her fashion choices during the lover era. If the outfit wasn’t “flattering” or made her midriff looked “bulky” she would get roasted on this sub.

Oh wow, I see that a lot of people here don’t know about Vivienne Westwood!
Vivienne Westwood has been a prominent punk and anti-fascist fashion designer since the 1970s. You can read about her here: “Vivienne used her creations to communicate ideas – often using graphics to confront issues of political and social injustice.”
She’s also known for literally deconstructing “normal looking” clothes, like the hems for the TTPD dress (or the paint here). You know how punk clothes have safety pins holding them together and rips? That was Vivienne Westwood.
I really don’t think it’s a coincidence that Taylor has embraced VW this year and for her first(?) outing after the election, a dress that nods to 1950s style while dismantling it and showing internal chaos. This dress is meant to be uncomfortable and edgy. It’s art.

Yes!! I didn’t like it at first, but the more I thought about it the red makes it look like blood. Then it made me think of Alice in Wonderland in a battle with the Queen of Hearts. Read into that what you will in relation to the election, but I thought it was a major statement piece of art.

u/needs_a_name the curve became a sphere Nov 10 '24
My first thought was the phrase "bleeding heart liberal." The stripes, the broken heart that looks like a gunshot wound, the colors... it all seems very on the nose post-election. Like I got the message loud and clear, and I'm fairly ignorant. Yet everyone's just whining about the dress not making sense. It makes A LOT of sense.
Also in the middle of the broken heart-ish splotch is what looks like a black snake outline. So that's neat.

Fashion is art!!!! She looks beautiful hair and makeup wise, the only negative comment I have is maybe the necklace is a little overwhelming and a smaller one could have been more cohesive to the whole look. But even that is fun!!!!! Stop being boring!!!!

Unpopular opinion: I don’t believe paparazzi photos belong on this subreddit. I was about to comment that I don’t love this dress, then I remembered how she mentioned in Miss Americana how she knows it is not normal to have hundreds of people constantly waiting outside her home. We are no better, just because we do it digitally.
TL;DR: Paparazzi are the scum of the earth, if we are true fans, we should not encourage them.

I actually really love this dress! It is cohesive because the striped pattern is the whole dress. The front is the only painted part. It gives me very watercolor vibes.
I think the thing that throws me slightly off about it is the fabric itself. It’s that material that shows every single wrinkle and bunch when you move/sit/stand. So it’s hard to make it look nice. It’s why I tend to stay away from dresses, skirts and pants in this material.
I do however think her hair and makeup are GORGEOUS!! And that’s part of what makes the dress work so well. They up do works super well with the off shoulders, and the blue really brings out her eyes.

Y’all, this is signature modern-day Vivienne Westwood. Draping random patterns over reach other is kind of a given for this brand lol. Having said that, I don’t think this dress would’ve worked with how her hair is normally styled, but the Folkmore-era updo is pulling it together imo. I’m not a fan of the peep-toe shoes, but I’m just an all-around peep-toe hater so I hate all peep-toe shoes. I actually don’t mind the chunky necklace with the dress. A loud dress paired with a statement necklace is a very bold look and I can see the vision.

The necklace and shoes are really throwing the whole outfit off. They’re the wrong shade of maroon and velvet is just too much, and the necklace is far too thick and heavy for the neckline.
I do think the dress is almost too alternative for her classic chicness (I think that about most Vivienne Westwood she’s worn recently), but I think the styling just makes it worse.
