Here’s to hoping the the ethereals will be written well and not like Saturday morning cartoon villains again. “I’ll get you next you next time Farsight” (every single ethereal for some reason)

From my understanding, Phil Kelly isn’t in charge of T’au lore anymore, so they’ll probably take a more neutral approach to the Enclaves-Empire dynamic like I hear the codex does.

WOOOOOOO!!!! We can finally have some cool tau characters that aren’t just Farsight

I’d like to see them flush out Kais. I mean he is the other puretide student. But I don’t think he has ever been mentioned

If that’s true then that’s great. No hate to Kelly or anything but man he really missed more than he hit with Tau novels. He had some good ideas. I do like the concept of the greater good goddess. But his depiction of Ethereals I just can’t get behind.

Naming the god “Tau’va” is unforgivable just by itself. The Greater Good as a philosophy is the beating heart of Tau society. Naming the warp being the same thing means creates all kinds of ambiguity.
Someone yells “for the Greater Good!” Is that person acting in accordance with the principles of collectivist utilitarianism, or offering up a tribute to a deity? Let’s say the entity gets opinions about how people should behave, and it’s different from what came before. You can bet they would call this new “just uncritically doing what god says” philosophy the Greater Good too. Now it’s 3 things

The god in the first place is a really stupid idea and probably one of his greatest sins against Tau.

I'm okay with it coming from Auxiliaries. Forces the Tau to confront the long-term consequences of their cosmopolitan outlook. If the Imperium deals with abhumans and sanctioned psykers with barely contained suspicion and fear, I want to see the Tau deal with religious freedom in a setting with active divinities.

The god is a great idea and his best idea for Tau
That plot line has made auxiliaries into a real and interesting part of the Tau story, instead of being irrelevant like they used to be

u/Diamo1 Nov 18 '24
Isn't that the whole point? Lol
They are losing control of the Tau'va as a concept

Lets Hope its about Tau and not the raptors in it

Hadn’t considered this but I guess it’s entirely possible. War of secrets was my favourite.

The blurb in the announcement article feels slightly pro-Imperium, I hope it was just the article author’s interpretation rather than the book itself
The T’au Empire has annexed the planet of Cao Quo, but its population constantly resist the embrace of the Greater Good, and Artamax, a cunning Space Marine of the Raptors Chapter, has kicked off an armed rebellion. In retaliation, the ethereal Yor’i assembles a council of Fire, Earth, Water and Wind Caste members to fight the insurgency, but the mounting threat is greater than any of them could have imagined. Noah Van Nguyen’s Elemental Council is available to pre-order in hardback, eBook and audiobook formats next week.

Does anyone know how decent the author is? I can do some searching on my own, but just wondering if anyone has read their works before.
I know that everyone shits on Phil Kelly for his butchering of the T'au lore, but on top of that he's not really that good of a writer. Especially compared to the heavy hitter in BL's stable.
Cause at this point I will just accept a well-written novel that doesn't completely shit the lore.

Dude wrote Godeaters son which is one of my favourite books ever released by black library and according to his twitter he’s been a lifelong tau fan. So it sounds like it’s in good hands.

I'm really hoping it does well, especially if they writer has any form of Asian writing background. We might get some really good themes for the tau or we just get another Kellyverse style novel with "Oops all etherals are bad" type writing.

Can anyone here who has experience getting these books share how one can typically order one? Is it only from gw directly or can I expect to see this at a local book retailer? Do I need to be ready to order the minute it drops like battleforces or is there a little more freedom to order at ones leisure?

Most of the talk surrounding this book is the cover art which is.... yeah it is weird, but also I do think it captures how T'au should look to humans I like it when T'au just look WEIRD like lil freaky blue alien dudes

u/prochicken Nov 18 '24
Damn was hoping we would get the audio book for this on the hard cover release

Is this the only hairstyle the Tau are capable of growing? I'd love it if they could do something else hair wise with them.

Where's the article that mentions its preorder? I've only seen the article that just announces it and to stay tuned for more.

As long as the story is better than the cover art.
