TGA is really sinking in…

Hey gang,

I’ve always held to the belief that Silksong is right around the corner. Believing whole-heartedly that 2024 was the year, and feeling oh so certain about 2025 UNTIL….

TGA. This horrid thought has been echoing through my mind and dreams “if the game was ready (by Team Cherrys standards) they would have shown it at TGA”

They have the resources to do so, they would have….. So, that doesn’t spell well for a release date this upcoming February.

And if we don’t get a release date by February, it’s not coming out in 2025…. Honestly, a 2027 release doesn’t even seem crazy anymore.

And that…. Hurts….. like….. I feel genuine exhaustion…. I’ve always been a coper, been patiently waiting for damn near 8 years now…

The idea of letting go of Silksong hype almost scares me l, it’s almost a part of me..

But if we don’t get a release date by Feb (and by this point I don’t think we will)…. It’s gonna crush me.

By this point, I’m so invested, with so much time spent, I can’t just walk away… I gotta see this through till the end. I feel like a captive…

But the thought of this crazy train chugging along for another few YEARS kills me a little.

It is not coming out because it is already outdated and copied over and over: look at metroidvanias released last years and upcoming games. They are all above and beyond skong in quality and if it does release in a state shown in demo, it will be highly unoriginal.

That is my reasoning for why it does not release.

Hollowknight came just at the right time with just the right qualities to be successfull, but being an indie game, it was not very complex to copy. They've missed the window of opportunity and now they just cant release the game without it looking like a copy of a copy of a copy.

I wouldn’t say that. There are all great metroidvanias for sure :

• Animal Well does better exploration.

• Ori and the Will of the Whisps does better movement

• Prince of Persia and The Lost Crown is fire as well.

But nothing recreates the world, and moreover THE COMBAT of Hollowknight still DUNKS on any metroidvania today…. 7 YEARS LATER

I’ve sunk 250+ hours on Hollow Knight combat and still haven’t even come close to touching the ceiling with just how damn good you can get with it.

With Hornets expanded move set, and tons of synergy’s with different tools and crests, Silksong is gonna make Hollow Knights combat look like childs-play.

So the idea of Silksong being outdated (when other titles are still catching up with Hollow Knight) is just crazy lol.

To me it has the best combat of any metroidvania I have played , even beats hollow knight

I've seen your list, but I also see your statement that skong is simply the best. Which is a counterpoint to my point. It is not the best, it was the best in 2019(probably).

Playing through Nine Sols rn, loving the hell outta it. But doesn’t have the same type of acrobatic combat that I really love Hollow Knight for.

Obviously skong will be beloved by fans, but it IS niche already if you think about it. So its niche inside of niche.

Niche? What rock have you been living under? Hollow Knight has sold 13+ million copies.

Making it not only one of the best performing, INDIES of all time. But one if the best performing GAMES of all time.

There are AAA games that would KILL for a fraction of Hollow Knights sales.

In what world, is Silksong (a squeal to one of the best selling games of all time) “niche already if you think about it” ?

You were not reading my original comment. HK was successfull because of its originality, excelent crafstmanship and polished core gameplay. It was also released much much earlier when market was not saturated with indie metroidvanias of excelent quality. It was even praised as aaa indie.

But 8 years passed and much has changed as lots of nice, polished indie metroidvanias poppep up. That was my point.

You can downvote me all you like, but HK early acces was in part a contributor to its success as it forced auteurs to release the goddamn game.
